Abstract

The surge protection with rotation disk (24) according to the presented invention includes a varistor body (14), terminal varistor electrodes, a rotating disk bracket (2) which is located in such a way that it completely covers the varistor body, a rotation disk (3), a spiral spring (4) and an enclosure of the surge protection (1). The overheating of the varistor body results in the disconnection of the terminal varistor electrodes (6) due to the melting of the flux which links the terminal electrode (6) and the varistor body (14) through the opening (8) inside the rotation disk (2) bracket. The shift of the terminal electrode (6) through the opening (8) inside the rotation disk (2) bracket due to the melting of the flux triggers the movement of the rotation disk (3) around the rotation axis (16) on the rotation disk bracket. Under the influence of the spring force of the spiral spring (14) the aforementioned rotation disk (3) moves from one extreme position into another with a high angular speed and covers the opening inside the rotation disk (2) bracket thus preventing the resulting electric arc. The technical implementation according to the invention is particularly suitable for applications regarding surge protection of power systems, where the breakdown of the varistor and burning can cause considerable material damage.
