Abstract

The catalytic converter control operates a heating effect to rapidly raise the temperature of the converter to the operating level. This heating control operates if on previous switch off the engine temperature is below a set level, or if the engine temperature has dropped to below a set level. The heating effect is generated inside the catalytic converter by an exothermic reaction generated by retarding the ignition, enriching the fuel-air mixture and by blowing additional air into the exhaust manifold. On switch off the engine temperature is stored in the control memory.
