Abstract

The method determines caster angle or axle inclination (~b), i.e. guide spindle inclination to vertical, viewed directly from side. The front wheel with frame beam horizontal adjacent to the wheel and with wheel locked e.g. by braking is pivoted from neutral position (straight forward) through a specific angle, pref. 30 deg., in one direction and then same in other direction from neutral. The pivot angle is determined with the aid of an angle reader placed on the ground under the pin (5), whose position and position alterations are projected and read by the angle reader with the aid of a projector arrangement (10) placed on the pin and at right-angles to it. The projector projects a small light line downwards towards the angle reader. After this, the difference between the pin inclination in relation to the horizontal plane in the other position is measured with the aid of a measurement prism (20) monitoring the direction of the force of gravity. This measurement prism is also placed on the pin. The difference comprises the required caster angle (~b).
