Abstract

The engine control produces a reference torque in relation to the driver's control settings and the engine performance. The control regulates the fuel injection, timing and air intake to regulate the torque. If the control system detects an error then a failsafe system enables the driver to control the torque. The failsafe system regulates the torque in relation eg. to the throttle setting, and provides a direct torque control. The failsafe system has programmed maximum levels eg. for engine speed, and enables the driver to drive the vehicle to a repair centre.
