Abstract

Work tool for cutting metal, comprising one or more cutting positions (1) for inserts, each position having a base support surface (10) and at least two side walls (11, 12, 16) at right angles to each other, against which the cutter rests - one side wall has two support surfaces (12, 16) located at different distances from the plane of the base support surface, one surface (12) supporting a square insert (4) and the other surface (16) supporting a hexagonal insert. Hexagonal indexable inserts for metal cutting work are also claimed, comprising a base surface, top or tightening surface and intermediate configuration of side walls made up of a first set of at least six contact surfaces (22) around the cutting edge (30) and a second set of at least six contact surfaces (26) adjacent to the base surface.
