Abstract

In a process and a device for sawing logs by use of circular saw blades (I1 - I4), the saw blades are directed by means of guides 6 disposed on both sides of the sawing surface, i.e. both above the log and around the bottom thereof. In order to prevent a larger than normal root end, twig or gnarl in the log from colliding with the upper guides 6, milling cutters 15, 16 are arranged which cut excess material away from the upper side of the log ahead of the saw blade. <IMAGE>
