Abstract

The materials used comprise sludge from a sewage works and at least 10 wt.% lime which itself contains at least 20 wt.% calcium carbonate. Where sand is also added, the proportions consist of 10 - 30 wt.% sludge, 10 - 30 wt.% lime, and 40 - 80 wt.% sand. - The materials are first roughly mixed, and the resultant mixt. is allowed to rest and mature for approximately 3 - 8 weeks, during which time the sludge is absorbed by the lime and sand. Then, the mixt. is treated in an earth mill to obtain a homogeneous final product. The mill works with flails which rotate at a speed of approximately 700 rev/min., spring-loaded counter tools maintaining a distance between them and the flails of approximately 65 mm.
