Abstract

The invention concerns a roaming procedure for a mobile radio system divided into cells, where all the base stations frequently send roaming parameter messages containing information about estimated time to the next roaming parameter message, the channels on which possible base-station candidates transmit their roaming parameter messages, a first low signal level threshold for base-station signals, a second high signal level threshold for base-station signals, a first good base threshold value for roaming values and a second poor base threshold value for roaming values, whereby all roaming mobile stations are frequently tuned in to serving base stations and possible base-station candidates and calculate roaming values, and each roaming mobile station decides to remain with the base station serving it at the time or to choose a new base station dependent upon the calculated roaming values in relation to the values good base, poor base and select base. <IMAGE>
