Abstract

A fire-escape made of metal consists of two side bars 1, 2 and rungs 3, 3A, 3B whose ends are hinged on the side bars with the aid of screws 51, 53, cotters or the like. At least one side bar, which constitutes the inner bar 1, is made from a U-shaped profile and is able to be secured to a wall of a building with the aid of a number of clamps 4 distributed along the bar, the said inner bar being directed with the web 11 of the U-shaped profile facing in towards the wall and with the two legs 10 facing out towards the other side bar which forms the outer bar 2. The outer bar is designed to be able to be pulled out from a retracted position, in which the inner and outer bars are against each other and the rungs are almost vertical, to a pulled-out position, in which the rungs are essentially at right angles to the side bars. Each of the legs of the inner bar is provided with at least one longitudinal flange-like elevation 12 at a distance from the web of the profile and, on the inside, with a corresponding longitudinal groove 13. The flange- like elevation on each leg constitutes an attachment for the said clamps, and the corresponding groove 13 has sufficient depth and width to be able to accommodate a screw head 50, nut or similar part of a connection member, preferably a screw 51, which extends through a hole 18 in the flange-like elevation for the purpose of fixing the clamp on the inner bar at any chosen location along the latter, so that the bars can be folded together without the rungs 3A, 3B striking an obstacle in the form of protruding screw heads, nuts or the like. <IMAGE>
