Abstract

The invention relates to a method and to a device for carrying out the method and comprises stirring a molten metal (2) by means of an electromagnetic horizontal stirrer (3) which only partially surrounds the ladle (1) and thus provides an asymmetric force distribution in the molten metal which gives rise to turbulence. Advantages of the invention are the creation of a parabolic bath surface because of the flow configuration in the molten metal, a good homogenization in a short time as well as good refining in the case of slag-melt processes.
