Abstract

The invention provides a releasable coupling between two machine elements, which satisfies the requirement for simple construction and small installation dimensions, at the same time as the high clamping forces required are made possible. The coupling comprises a locking ring 20 of wedge-shaped cross section, which is mounted in an annular groove 16 of one machine element 12 and, by virtue of external force action, is caused to expand or be compressed into engagement with a corresponding annular groove 13 in the other element 10 so that one element is displaced towards the other element so that locking and clamping of the element are brought about. According to the invention, the locking ring 20 comprises an outer ring 27 and an inner ring consisting of a number of wedge-shaped segments 28, bearing members in the form of rollers or balls 30 being received in an annular gap 29 between the outer ring 27 and the inner segments 28. <IMAGE>
