Abstract
A player input transducer apparatus is comprised of first and second inductor sets, each inductor set comprising an inductor 130 having an associated movable slug with an associated core for producing an associated coordinate signal having a pulse width proportional to the position of the respective slug relative to the respective core means for linking player physical movements to each of the respective slugs so as to provide for user positioning of the slugs in the first and second inductor sets. By transversely orienting the responsive movement of the slugs, a sine-cosine transducer can be obtained. The apparatus can be used as the input to a video game. A pulse output can be directly generated from the inductor, or can alternatively be derived by dividing (counting) a periodic waveform generated from the inductor. In one embodiment, the position transducer provides 360 DEG rotational position data. In another embodiment, the position transducer provides acceleration data, and means can be provided for accelerating movement of a portion of the video display presentation responsive to the rate of change per predetermined time interval of said pulse width of the coordinate signals associated with said first and second inductor sets. <IMAGE>
