Abstract

Method for the quality control of prods. (I) from fish, meat, cattle, swine and poultry consists of exposing a sample of (I) to radiation of 325-360 pref. ca 340 mm. Any fluorescent radiation emitted by the prod. is analysed to identify characteristic fluorescence from biological components (II) in the prod.. The presence of (II) determines the quality of the prod.. Irradiation of fish bones at pref. ca 340 nm causes a characteristic and visible fluoresence from fish bones only (i.e. in fish flesh). Similarly, irradiation of animal bone, cartilage, connective tissue and fat at ca 340 nm causes fluoresence from non-meat material.
