Abstract

Lifting device for mounting on an excavator or the like and used for handling thick pipe. It comprises load fingers (12), which extend in a primarily horizontal direction and are designed to be inserted in and bear the pipes. The load bearing part of the load finger (28) is designed in such a way that when loaded it is displaced from a rest position to a stop position while its non-load bearing end, which is simultaneously displaced to a new position, is connected to a moveable locking device (13) that lowers toward the load finger and engages with any pipe borne by the load finger when the load finger is displaced toward the stop position. The lifting device is suitably mounted on the outer end of a support arm (8) that is at an oblique angle in relation to the load finger (12). To provide optimum accessibility, a so-called rotating head (35) is also mounted between the excavator boom (4) and the support arm (8).<IMAGE>
