Abstract

Torque converter for automatic down-shifting of revolutions per minute, includes an incoming shaft (1), an outgoing shaft (5a, 5b) and, between these, a coupling (2a, 2b), which couples the shafts by means of a low torque coupling (6) of high revolutions per minute (rpm) and by means of a high torque coupling (15) via a gearing (16) of low rpm, whereby the said coupling (2a, 2b) has opposing symmetric grooves (4a) and/or recesses (4b) at a certain pitch, in which one or more components (3a, 3b) are arranged, which at a predetermined resistive torque in the outgoing shaft (5a, 5b) guide the coupling (2a, 2b) to axially engage with the high torque coupling (15), so that the torque converter (12) amplifies the torque on the outgoing shaft (5a, 5b), independent of the direction of rotation of the incoming shaft (1).<IMAGE>
