Abstract
The invention relates to a proximity fuse for initiating the explosive charge of a projectile which comprises a transmitting unit for transmitting electro-magnetic radiation in the form of one or more well-defined radiation beams and a receiving unit for receiving radiation reflected from a target. The proximity fuse comprises means for determining within the radiation beams (6) characteristics of the target and its background, for instance the shape of the target, and means for making a comparison between the collected information of the target characteristics and one or more expected target characteristics. <IMAGE>
