Abstract

Usually, trimarans have very good sailing properties. They sail with little heel and have low weight as the keel is absent. This entails that they may easily be made unsinkable. Collapsible types may be transported on trailers. An essential drawback is that the stability ceases at 80 degrees of heel. Thus, they are not self-righting. The present invention entails that the boat keeps its stability up to considerably larger angles of heel - approximately 130 degrees maximum. This is obtained by the mast being sideways tiltable and that each side hull is sprung relative to the central hull. The functioning is seen from Fig. 3, which shows the boat in a position of severe heeling. The invention further entails that the heeling is considerably decreased at extreme wind speeds. <IMAGE>
