Abstract

In a filter belt press for straining of water from sludge or precipitated suspensions the sludge is supplied from an inflow trough (2) to an endless upper filter belt (10), from which the partially dried sludge (19) is conveyed to a lower filter belt (17), for pressing between the belts (10, 17) as they pass around a drum (13) and pressing rollers (15), and then the sludge cake is removed from the belts (10, 17) by scrapers. Between the inflow trough (2) and the upper filter belt (10) is disposed a pre-straining drum (3) the periphery of which is surrounded by a wire cloth (7) and from which the water flows through the upper filter belt (10) to an upper filtrate vessel (21). The drum (13), which is the driving unit for both the filter belts (10, 17), consists of an inner jacket (24) and a perforated outer jacket (25) between which are guiding plates (26) for guiding the filtered water along the ends (28) of the drum (13) to a lower filtrate vessel (22). <IMAGE>
