Abstract

The bogies (2, 3) of a rail vehicle are connected to the body (1) of the vehicle by king pins or their equivalent (not shown), and also by transverse hydraulic actuators (11, 11a, 12, 12a), one at each end of each bogie. The actuators are interconnected by lines (21, 22, 23, 24) so that the forces exerted on, for example, the bogie 2 (forces P11, P12) act in opposite directions, and the effective piston areas of the actuators are so proportioned that the resultant of the two forces P11, P12 is a transverse force acting at a point halfway between the bogies. Similarly, the resultant of the two forces (P11a, P12a) acting on the other bogie (3) is a transverse force of the same magnitude, also acting halfway between the bogies, but in the opposite direction. The hydraulic system therefore tends to constrain the bogies to make equal but opposite rotations. <IMAGE>
