Abstract

1465746 Expanding dowel F MACHTLE 29 March 1974 [15 June 1973 12 July 1973] 13915/74 Heading F2H An expanding dowel comprises segments, for example, in the form of half-shells, forming a sleeve 26 and an annular spring 31 located within a groove 27 formed in the segments at a position located approximately 1/3 to “ of the way along the sleeve from the end adjacent nut 25, tapering expanding members 23, 24 and bolt 20, member 23 being threaded on the bolt and member 24 being slidable thereon, the arrangement being such that tightening of nut 25 causes expansion of sleeve 26, said expansion being limited by providing tapering member 24 with a shoulder 30. Tapering member 23 may be retained on the end of the bolt by an adhesive. A slot 29 may be provided on the other end of the bolt so that the bolt may be held firm by a screw driver when nut 25 is rotated thereon. Alternatively, a hexagonal-headed bolt may be used instead of the bolt-nut assembly shown.
