Abstract
Description
Tal och videokodare för variabel bithastighet är exempel på tjänsteklass B. 20 25 30 35 514 987 ATM service class B represents connection-oriented traffic with a synchronization dependency and which supports variable bit rate. Variable bit rate speech and video encoders are examples of service class B.
(Frame relay, X25).ATM service class C refers to connection-oriented traffic with variable bit rate where there is no need for synchronization between the terminal points. (Frame relay, X25).
ATM-tjänsteklass D karakteriseras av förbindningslös överföring utan behov av synkronisering som stöder varierbar bithastighet.ATM service class D is characterized by unconnected transmission without the need for synchronization that supports variable bit rate.
ATM-paket är små jämfört med normala LAN-paket.ATM packets are small compared to normal LAN packets.
Mod l använder en accessmetod kallad EY-NPMA /Elimination Yield Non-Pre- emptive Priority Multiple Access). Denna accessmetod innehåller tre faser: PAP (Priority Access Phase), CP (Contetion Phase) och TP (Transmission Phase), se fig. 1.Mod l uses an access method called EY-NPMA / Elimination Yield Non-Preemptive Priority Multiple Access). This access method contains three phases: PAP (Priority Access Phase), CP (Contetion Phase) and TP (Transmission Phase), see also. 1.
In the PAP, the node broadcasts the priority (of five different PAP priority levels) on the packet it wants to send. The priority is set by the MAC layer with information from the overlying OSI layer. The information from the overlying OSI layer consists of two parameters; user priority and NRML (N ormalized Residual HMSDU (HIPERLAN MAC Service Data Unit) Lifetime. NRML simply corresponds to the remaining lifetime of packets divided by the number of nodes the packet must pass before it reaches the destination node.
To distinguish nodes that send packets with the same PAP priority, there is a CP, in which the nodes compete for the medium. After CP, only one node remains that can send a packet in TP (A packet consists of one or fl your smaller blocks).
The EY-NPMA access method does not guarantee access to the communication medium for än er than a subsequent packet, which is required for synchronous services such as voice, video, etc. fl. Furthermore, EY-NPMA is a very spectrum-efficient access method for small packages.
Kraven i tjänsteklass A och B kan ej uppfyllas i dagens system. Verkningsgrader mindre än 0,20 för paket typ ATM (53 bytes) är att vänta med EY-NPMA.The requirements in service class A and B cannot be met in the current system. Efficiencies less than 0.20 for packet type ATM (53 bytes) are to be expected with EY-NPMA.
Verkningsgraden blir i detta fall knappt 0,25.Simulations have been performed where 90% of the packets are small (64 bytes) and 10% are large 10 15 20 25 30 35 514 987 3 (1500 bytes) then the net data rate in HIPERLAN will be about 5 Mbps from a raw data rate of 23.5 Mbps . The efficiency in this case will be just under 0.25.
I fig. 22 illustreras problemet med elektromagnetiskt gömda noder. I fig. Radiovågor utsända fiån C och A interfererar i nod B. Ofyllda ringar illustrerar täckningsområden.I fi g. 22 illustrates the problem of electromagnetically hidden nodes. I fi g. 22 shows how unwanted interference between two nodes can occur. Radio waves transmitted from C and A interfere with node B. Unfilled rings illustrate coverage areas.
A and C are electromagnetically hidden from each other, which means that they cannot physically communicate with each other. If we imagine a situation where both nodes A and C try to send a TP at about the same time, TP will collide with each other in node B and both transmissions fail. Despite the fact that both node A and node C followed the access rules that apply, ie passed as victories from PAP and CP and notified surrounding nodes within the coverage area with BRP about which bandwidth reservation it made, a collision occurs in node B.
The solution The above objects are achieved in that the invention has the features specified in the appended claims.
Advantages The invention provides a number of advantages, including an increase in the capacity for HIPERLAN transmission of short messages / data packets and an increased transmission probability for priority information. With the proposed access method, synchronous services will be guaranteed access to the communication medium after connection. Furthermore, the spectrum efficiency, capacity and efficiency will be able to be greatly increased for small packages of the ATM type. Finally, the invention solves the problem of electromagnetic hidden nodes for synchronous traffic.

The second mode (shown in fi g. 2) mode 2 nodes: - are the only nodes that may use the highest priority on a regular basis. reserves bandwidth for packets to be transmitted at regular intervals. This is to be able to guarantee the necessary transmission capacity. shall reserve bandwidth by transmitting information in a time slot, BRP (Bandwidth Reservation Phase) according to fi g. 2, about how much bandwidth he reserves after the node has gained access to the medium. The BRP time slot shall be transmitted immediately after the node has obtained permission to use the medium. 1 HIPERLAN must therefore be sent BRP after PAP and CP.
The invention further consists of all HIPERLAN nodes being able to detect the information in the BRP field. The TP that in BRP is reserved by a node may in principle not be used by other nodes that are within radio coverage. However, in an alternative embodiment, the invention may allow exceptions to the above principle as follows: the reserved blocks in TP that follow an empty detectable reserved block may be used by other nodes. That is, the blocks following an empty unused block are temporarily lost to the node that originally reserved these blocks. However, the use of these blocks should be limited to mod 1 nodes.
Nod som utför ”BRP-reservation” behöver endast använda PAP, CP och BRP före TPl, dvs TP2, 3... ATPmax kan sändas utan PRP, CP och BRP.Node that performs "BRP reservation" only needs to use PAP, CP and BRP before TP1, ie TP2, 3 ... ATPmax can be sent without PRP, CP and BRP.
However, BRP must always be transmitted at one time within the time interval Tmax. Thus, if the application lasts longer than Tmax, a new BRP must be sent within each Tmax interval. However, the need does not have to compete for the medium using PAP and CP for these extra BRP broadcasts. Tmax thus determines ATPmax: ATPmax = INT (Tmax / Tint) (INT = rounded to integers downwards) Tmax must be dimensioned so that other nodes can receive information about HIPERLAN status and what remains of the BRF reservation without having to listen for unnecessarily long time. However, the Tmax must be large enough not to limit the transmission capacity through unnecessarily frequent signaling.
Node that wants access to the transmission medium must before that have listened to the current carrier for a time that is at least as long as Tmax.
Given the low bandwidth requirements of the mode 2 nodes relative to the bandwidth of the HIPERLAN spectrum, it is unlikely that reserving nodes risk competing with non-reserving nodes. However, it may still be worthwhile to introduce Abmax. This term denotes the maximum number of blocks that may be reserved in total by a node based on only one competition using PAP and CP. Note that Abmax may include fl your Tmax ranges. Abmax can either be a system constant or can be varied to achieve optimal system behavior over time.
If you allow arbitrary values on TInt, this can, if a large number of different reservations have been made, possibly lead to difficulties in calculating which times are available. This possible difficulty is solved by allowing only one or a few basic values on TInt.
An application that segments information in packets (eg ATM), and where you save the packets in a buffer while waiting to be sent, has information about how many packets are queuing in the buffer. The invention means that the HIPERLAN node can solve such queue information. This information can be used by both mod 1 and mod 2 nodes. 10 15 20 25 30 35 514 987 6 The queue length can be used to determine ATP and / or AB. Note that the AB determination based on the queue formation can also be made without a BRP reservation, but then for only one TP. Furthermore, a queue should be created for packaging in larger AB for such information whose lifetime is not threatened here.
The purpose of the images is to show different ways to map HIPERLAN and ATM / AAL packages on each other. The invention proposes that the IWF map CS-SDU directly to HMSDU. Another solution is for the IWF to transfer I ATM-SDUs or buffers and merge your ATM-SDUs to form an HMSDU. One solution is for the HIPERLAN MAC to buffer the ATM-SDU and merge your ATM-SDU or HMSDU into an HMPDU if necessary.
Fig. 5 beskriver ett paketflöde i ATM. A).Fig. 5 describes a packet fl fate in ATM. The figure shows only a part of the AAL warehouse, namely AAL1 (which is adapted for ATM service class A).
The above solutions also refer to interworking between HIPERLAN and other similar systems that carry the corresponding type of traffic and that have similar package structures.
Figures 6 and 7 show two different ways at OSI level to implement interworking between HIPERLAN and ATM. The figures are not intended to be a description of the invention, but rather to show the possibility of connecting these two systems.
Time intervals between TPs that are multiples of blocks are most advantageous to use.
This is to prevent the different reservation from slipping into each other and thereby interfering with each other.
Reservationen är giltig tills noden inte längre använder reservationen eller sänder en dereservation.BRP does not need to indicate how many TPs are reserved. The reservation is valid until the node no longer uses the reservation or sends a reservation.
The invention also includes a function in HIPERLAN-CAC that merges short HC SDUs that have the same priorities, this to improve spectrum efficiency.
Below are a number of alternative embodiments. The method that is primarily recommended is illustrated by fi g. 11 in combination with fi g. 20 and 21. That is, BRP shall be transmitted immediately before alternatively after the first block in 10 15 20 25 30 35 514 987 7 respectively reserved TP. BRP can be designed so that it is considerably shorter than one block, which is why the increased capacity load is very limited compared to methods that transmit BRP or BUP less often.
I fig. I fi g. 8 shows a first alternative embodiment of the invention where the BDP can be directly after or directly before the last TP or in the last TP. BDP states that node does not intend to use pre-reserved time slots.
I fig. I fi g. 9 shows a second alternative embodiment of the invention where BUP can be directly after or directly before TP or in TP. BUP is transmitted at regular intervals so that surrounding nodes can update the reservation status.
I fig. I fi g. 10 shows a third alternative embodiment of the invention, which is a combination of the first and the second embodiments where BRP and BUP may be the same type of packet and contain the same information.
Figs. Ll - 16 illustrate alternative modes of formation of the invention as well as parameters that can be included in BRP fields as well as the design of BDP fields and parameters.
I fig. I fi g. 17 shows examples of embodiments of BUP. The mutual order may deviate from that illustrated. The purpose of BUP is to update previous reservations for nodes that are within radio coverage.
I fig. I fi g. 18 shows the invention in a further embodiment where the bandwidth reservation field, BRP, is to be added after CP (contention phase) in EY-NPMA. A mod 2 node that has won PAP and CP is the only node that has the right to transmit the corresponding BRP burst. Mod 1 and Mod 2 nodes listen and detect the BRP field and follow the information in the field according to predefined rules.
Mod 2 nodes have the ability to reserve bandwidth for packets that normally occur so that it can guarantee bandwidth after contact for more than one TP. The Mod 2 nodes are for the most part the only nodes that have the right to use the highest priority in CAC. For example, mode 2 may be the only nodes that are allowed to use HIPERLAN User Priority l (In ATM, unconnected services may only use Cell Loss Priority O). Mod 2 nodes are allowed to use Priority 1 if, and only if, packets are used by a service defined in ATM service class A or B or if the packets from ATM have CELL Loss Priority 1. The TPs in BRP reserved by a node may in principle not be used of other nodes within radio coverage. However, in an alternative embodiment, the invention may allow exceptions to the above principle as follows: the reserved blocks in TP that follow an empty detectable reserved block may be used by other nodes. That is, the blocks following an empty unused block are temporarily lost to the node that originally reserved these blocks. However, the use of these blocks should be limited to mod nodes.
A node (mode 1 or 2) intended to transmit must listen to the medium for at least a predetermined time TCTP-max, which is the longest time between two TCTPs, before it has the right to try to access the medium. Node 2 modes that have made the BRP reservation only need to send PAP, CP and BRP before TP1. This means that TP2.3 can be transmitted without PAP and CP.
21 visad BRP.Fig. 20 shows another variant of BRP intended for use with i fi g. 21 shown BRP.
Fig. 21 shows another variant of BRP intended to solve the problem of electromagnetically hidden nodes.
The invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown, but can be varied in any manner within the scope of the inventive concept, as defined by the appended claims.
