A package is made from two portions each made from a rigid laminated support, the portions being sealed together. The bottom portion 4 is made from a rectangular sheet of stiff paperboard 1 and covered with a coating or film 2 of vinylidene chloride, aluminium foil, nylon, polyester &c. The coating or film 2 may be covered with a layer 3 of polyethylene if the coating or film does not possess heat sealant properties. The upper portion is made from a paperboard blank 6 which has a central rectangular opening 7. A nylon film 9 is adhered to the circumference area of the blank 6 and extends over the central opening 7. The film 9 may be coated with "Saran" (Trade Mark) and be coated with a film of polyethylene for heat sealing purposes. A cup portion 10 is formed in the film 9 before the portions are sealed together. The bottom portion 4 may alternatively be similar to the top portion. In another embodiment, the opening 7 is provided with flaps (11), (11<SP>1</SP>), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), which extend partially into the opening on three or four sides. The film 9 is adhered to the flaps (11), (11<SP>1</SP>) over their entire surface by heatsensitive vinyl emulsion glue, which allows creep between the film and the flaps when the cup portion is formed. The flaps (11), (11<SP>1</SP>) may be joined at (12) by perforations which break when the cup portion is formed. The packaging of articles in the above packages is performed by feeding the bottom portions (4), Fig. 8 (not shown), on which the articles (16) are placed, on a conveyer under the top portions which are fed from a moulding device (18), where the cups are formed, on another conveyer at right-angles to the first. The portions 4, 5 are evacuated and heat-sealed together at (21). An inert gas may be introduced into the package before sealing.
