Abstract

937,086. Automatic exchange systems. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 5, 1962 [March 8, 1961], No. 8433/62. Class 40 (4). In a system in which subscribers' lines are connected to a link circuit by the operation of a pair of relays, these relays are arranged to release in succession in order, when required, to connect up a source of busy tone. In the case of link circuit 4, a calling line is connected to feed relay X by relays 1A, 1B or 2A, 2B, while a called line is connected to feed relay Y by relays 1C, 1D or 2C, 2D, these operations being controlled by the marking of wires 6, 7 in a manner not shown. The connecting relays are of the kind that remain in their operated positions until restored by current through their releasing windings shown at the foot of the Figure. Assuming an established connection, when one subscriber hangs up relays E, F (which are dependent on X, Y) fall back in turn and thus one connecting relay of each operative pair releases before the other. Relay G now energizes over the remaining subscriber's loop and connects busy tone thereto from a source 12. In the setting up of a connection, relays E, F energize initially over wire 13, and if the called line is found busy this wire is opened, with the result that busy tone is applied in a similar way to the calling line. Relay G has opposing windings to avoid its operation in series with line relay L.
