Abstract

The valve (10) cooperates with a camshaft (24) to open and close a channel (11) for an engine cylinder and includes a valve cone (13) for contact with a valve seat, sealing the channel without assistance from the camshaft and entering the cylinder with assistance from the camshaft. A valve spindle has one end connected to the valve cone and the other end for cooperating with the camshaft is provided with a valve spring plate (18) and a valve spring (21). A safety spring (22) allows movement of the valve cone relative to the valve spring plate in the event of an unwanted movement of the valve cone in the direction of the valve seat. The safety spring applies a force to the valve cone in the direction of the cylinder and the valve cone will return to its original position once its undesired movement has stopped.
