Abstract
An antenna device is disclosed for making the three-dimensional electromagnetic field available. In a complete system the antenna device will be connected to standard radio equipment such as transceivers, etc, which will allow the antenna signals to be processed. The unique polarization information from the antenna device enables the signal to be processed in order to cancel fading, minimize co-channel interference, determine angle of arrival, perform beam-forming etc. Thus, it is the combination of the antenna device together with custom-built signal processing algorithms which gives the full utility of the invention. In a general form an antenna array is built up by at least two polarization cells (5), each comprising a pair of crossed dipoles (20) for a first and second direction of polarization and a monopole element (25) for a third direction of polarization, a number of polarization cells forming an array column. Every second polarization cell (10) may be turned by 180 degrees. A feeding system (90) with proper interconnections of the polarization cells creates a means for selecting signals of three different polarization directions to thereby making available three-dimensional electromagnetic field information of a present radio frequency wave.
