Abstract

A pressurized vessel (3) fillable with liquid (9) is connected via valves (5, 8) in its top and bottom regions to a branch pipe (4) leading to the main pipe (1) for transporting the liquid. Small bubbles of gas enter the liquid inside the branch pipe once an equilibrium is reached between the gas pressure inside the vessel and the liquid pressure inside the branch pipe. A device for supplying gas to a liquid being pumped through a main pipe at a given pressure comprises a pressurized vessel connected to the main pipe via a branch pipe. The bottom of the vessel is connected to a valve (5) which allows pressurized liquid to flow into the vessel from the branch pipe when open, and which allows liquid to drain out from the vessel when closed. The top of the vessel is connected to two valves (7, 8), the first one being a check valve (7) which automatically closes when the gas cushion (10) above the liquid inside the vessel starts to become compressed as the level of liquid rises, and which automatically opens when liquid is drained out from the vessel and the gas pressure drops towards a null value, in order to fill the vessel with gas. The second is a check valve (8) which is kept closed as long as the liquid pressure inside the branch pipe is greater than the gas pressure inside the vessel. The check valve allows a partial gas flow into the liquid inside the branch pipe when an equilibrium is reached between the gas pressure inside the vessel and the liquid pressure inside the branch pipe, enabling small bubbles of gas to enter the liquid inside the branch pipe and even the main pipe.
