Abstract

FIELD: radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in radio engineering systems where high precision monitoring of one of phases of one signal with regard to reference signal of same frequency or calculation of nonlinear mutual correlation function of two signals is necessary. In contrast to linear correlator proposed nonlinear discriminator makes it possible to raise signal/noise ratio thanks to apparent reduction of noise band, to peak discriminator characteristic, to determine precisely moment of phase coincidence and finally to measure difference of phases across interval lesser than period of input signal. Key element of discriminator is capacitive energy accumulator which accumulates only when squared difference of momentary values of input and reference voltages is less than specified level. At end of accumulated period capacitive energy accumulator is forced to discharge through resistor with small resistance which results, if phases coincide, in formation of short pulse across discharge resistor which is output of nonlinear correlator. Salient feature of nonlinear correlator is that with supply of white noise instead of signal is formed across its output whereas in linear correlator there will be voltage of noise through attenuated across output. EFFECT: higher precision monitoring of phases of signals.

The invention relates to the field of radio engineering and can be used in radio engineering systems where it is required to monitor with high accuracy the phase of one of the signals with respect to the reference signal of the same frequency or to calculate the nonlinear cross-correlation function of two signals. In contrast to the linear correlator, the device allows increasing the signal-to-noise ratio due to a noticeable reduction in the noise band, sharpening the discriminatory response, accurately determining the moment of phase coincidence, and finally, it can measure the phase difference over an interval shorter than the input signal period. The main element of the device is a capacitive energy storage device, which produces accumulation only if the square of the difference between the instantaneous values of the input and reference voltages is less than a given level. At the end of the accumulation period, the capacitive storage is forcibly discharged through a resistor with a low resistance, as a result of which, when the phases coincide completely, a short pulse is formed on the discharge resistor, which is the output of the nonlinear correlator. The main feature of the nonlinear correlator is that when white noise is applied to its input instead of a signal, no signal is generated at the output, while the noise corrector will be present, albeit attenuated, on the linear correlator.
