Abstract

FIELD: environmental control. SUBSTANCE: method relates to equipment used in development of method and devices for detection of radioactive substances contaminating environment. Method involves irradiation of examined object with pulse flux of neutrons followed by measurement of time behavior of delay neutrons emitted by fission fragments. Content of fissionable materials in given object is judged by presence of characteristic component of decay of fission fragments with effective time of half-decay 23 ± 1 s. method is aimed at quick detection of fissionable materials. EFFECT: expanded range of method meant for search for fissionable materials both dispersed in environment and transported in hidden form.

Claims (1)

The invention relates to the field of technology related to the development of methods and devices for the detection of radioactive substances polluting the environment. The invention consists in the development of an express method for the detection of fissile elements. The essence of the method consists in irradiating the investigated object with a pulsed neutron flux, followed by measuring the time course of the delayed neutron flux emitted by fission fragments and by the presence of the characteristic decay component of fission fragments with an effective half-life of 23 ± 1 s, we judge the content of fissile materials in this object. This method can be used to search for materials both dispersed in the environment and transported in hidden form.
