Механизм относится к области машиностроения, а именно - к поперечно-строгальным станкам. Механизм главного движения поперечно-строгального станка содержит кривошип, шатун, коромысло, неподвижно соединенное с кулачком, толкатель, имеющий смещение (эксцентриситет) относительно оси вращения кулачка и подвижное соединение с рычажной системой перемещения ползуна, винтовой механиз изменения длины хода ползуна, а также храповой механизм подачи. Кулачковый механизм выполнен с постоянным отрицательным углом давления, равным углу трения между рабочей поверхностью кулачка и роликом толкателя для исключения давления толкателя на направляющие, с этой же целью вводится поступательно движущееся звено соединения рычажной системы с толкателем.
