Abstract
Description
Technical field
The invention relates to a technology for creating a composite material for use in the field of absorption of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) in the high and ultra high frequency (microwave) range; can be used to provide electromagnetic sealing of housings of radio engineering devices in order to protect enterprise personnel and users from unwanted exposure to radio radiation created by a set of scientific, industrial and household devices. The invention is aimed at reducing the coefficient of reflection of radiation from objects. To obtain it, carbon fiber (CF) is ground in a planetary ball mill. The composite material, to which crushed carbon fiber is added, contains another filler - ferrites of a hexagonal Z-type structure, and epoxy glue is used as a binder. To create a homogeneous structure, the composite mixture is preliminarily ultrasonic treated for 5 minutes before polymerization. During polymerization of the sample, a constant rotating magnetic field is applied to the composite to create a magnetic texture in the sample. The composite obtained by this method can be used to produce radio-absorbing coatings that reduce radar signature.

A patent search for inventions used to absorb electromagnetic radiation has revealed many technical solutions for producing such materials, most of which are non-conductive.
Thus, known materials (see patent RU No. 2651343, IPC C09D 5/32 and H01Q 17/00, published 04/19/2018) consisting of M-type barium hexaferrite, substituted with aluminum ions, and boron oxide B 2 O 3 . The application of a dielectric layer of boron oxide increased the absorption efficiency to -22.7 dB in the terahertz range. The synthesis of hexaferrites was carried out using standard ceramic technology at a temperature of 1150-1250 °C. The resulting magneto-dielectric material is effective for absorption in the subterahertz region of the spectrum (0.08-0.1 THz), the reflection coefficients range from -22.7 to -19.6 dB.
The main disadvantage of these materials is their proven effectiveness with large sample thicknesses (5 mm), which increases the weight of the product and introduces a large influence of volumetric resonance. Given the trend towards miniaturization of devices, the scope of application of the material being studied may be limited. This material is not conductive.
Radio-absorbing materials are known, in which multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are included as conducting structures, and the main fillers are M-type barium hexaferrites and carbonyl iron (see patent RU No. 2775007, IPC C09D 5/32, H01Q 17/00, published 03/21/2022). The ferrite content ranged from 55 to 65 wt. % with a dispersion of 5-50 microns, MWCNTs - 0.1-2 wt. %. Ferrites were synthesized using standard ceramic technology at 1350 °C. Thanks to the substitution of metal ions in the ferrite composition, it is possible to fine-tune the coating for effective absorption in specified frequency ranges.
The disadvantage of this invention is the lack of justification for MWCNTs in the composition; the main attention is paid to the replacement of metal ions in the composition of barium hexaferrite. The patent under study does not indicate the thickness of the developed materials, which does not allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the absorption properties.
Patent No. 2402845 (MPK H01Q 17/00, published 10/27/2010) describes the creation of a composite material that contains carbonyl nickel, graphite, and a two-component silicone compound PK-68 as a binder. Carbonyl nickel and graphite powders were pre-dried at a temperature of (120±10) °C. Weighed amounts of powders and rubber were ground in a porcelain mortar and, when introducing the second component of the silicone compound, they were ground again for 5-10 minutes. The resulting mixture could be poured into molds or applied in layers to the surfaces of products within an hour. The use of graphite made it possible to reduce the reflection coefficient and increase the stability of absorption characteristics when used for a long time in a humid environment.
The disadvantage of this invention is the lack of specified sample thicknesses, the absorption values of which are given in the patent description, which does not allow assessing the applicability of the material in various technical solutions.
The closest to this patent is the patent (see RU No. 2794212, IPC C08L 63/00, C08K 7/00, C08K 3/08, B82B 3/00, published 12/21/2022), dedicated to the problem of reducing radar signature. In a water bath, epoxy resin is heated to 35 °C, into which XB 2.0 rubber powder, chopped carbon fiber (CF), graphite and carbonyl iron are added and mixed. After adding the hardener, the mass is mixed and poured into the mold. To change the dielectric constant spectra, carbon structures such as carbon fiber and graphite are introduced into the composition. To create magnetic losses, magnetically active carbonyl iron is used. The resulting material showed absorption properties from -22.2 to -70 dB.
The disadvantage of this invention is the lack of listing the thicknesses of the samples of gaskets and housings, to which the absorption spectra are given.
Disclosure of the Invention
The objective of this invention is the production of a composite material, which includes micro-sized powders of Z-type hexagonal ferrite, carbon fiber chopped and ground in a planetary ball mill and epoxy adhesive ED-20 to reduce the reflection coefficients of high-frequency EMR in a wide microwave band.
Carrying out the invention
1:10.The manufacturing method is as follows. The first step is to grind carbon fiber (CF) in a planetary ball mill for 5 minutes. This operation was carried out to ensure a uniform distribution of carbon fibers in the volume of manufactured composites, since the large length of carbon fibers leads to the formation of agglomerates from them in local areas of the composites. The diameter of the balls was 0.5 cm, the volume of the drum was 1 liter, the ratio of the mixture to the balls was 1:10.
In the composite material, to which crushed carbon fiber (0.01-0.09 wt.%) is added, a filler is mixed - ferrites of a hexagonal Z-type structure (55-70 wt.%) with particle sizes less than 50 microns, as a binder Epoxy glue is used. The weight of the samples was controlled using a Shimadzu AUX - 320 scale (error ±0.5 mg). To create a homogeneous structure, the composite mixture, before polymerization and adding a hardener, is preliminarily ultrasonic treated for 5 minutes using the UZTA-0.1/28-O apparatus. During polymerization of the sample, the composite is exposed to a constant rotating magnetic field of 4 kOe to create a sheet magnetic texture at a temperature of (25 ± 2) °C in a constant magnetic field texturing unit for 6 hours. The field is applied in the plane of the sample. The sample is then exposed to air for 24 hours to allow complete polymerization.
The choice of the quantitative ratio of the components is explained by the following considerations. The mass of carbon fiber must not exceed the percolation threshold. Adding hydrocarbons in the indicated proportions makes it possible to reduce the resistance of composites from 110 kOhm to 100 Ohm at the same thickness. The mass of the ferrite filler must be sufficient to exhibit effective absorption, but an excessive increase in concentration leads to problems with mixing the mixture for the composite, agglomeration of ferrite powder particles, and also increases the weight of the final product and reduces the strength characteristics.
The measurement of S-parameters to calculate the reflectance spectra of the samples was carried out using the waveguide method on a vector network analyzer R4M-18 (Micran) in the frequency range from 0.01 to 18 GHz, the sample was located on a metal surface. The measurements were carried out on toroidal samples in a coaxial path with an internal diameter of 3.05 mm and an external diameter of 7.0 mm. The thickness of the samples was 2 mm.

The results of the measured reflectance spectra are presented in the figure below. It is shown that the reflection coefficient is below -4 dB in the frequency range 2-18 GHz for both samples; it is also necessary to note the differences in the spectra of samples No. 1 and No. 2 in the low-frequency region of the spectra, due to an increase in the value of imaginary magnetic permeability due to magnetic texturing.
