Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of ensuring the resistance of lens objectives of space equipment to the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space. A preliminary calculation estimate of the change (decrease) in the spectral transmittance of the lens lens of space equipment under the influence of ionizing radiation from outer space allows you to choose a lens design option that ensures the operation of the equipment with the required characteristics for a given period of active existence in orbit. The damaging effect of ionizing radiation from outer space on lens elements made of optical glasses (namely, lenses, protective glasses, light filters) consists in an increase in their spectral optical density due to radiation staining of glasses and a corresponding decrease in the spectral transmittance of the lens.
There is a known method for determining the change in the transmittance of optical systems, the elements of which are made of optical glasses, when exposed to ionizing radiation from outer space, described in the book “Model of Outer Space. Space model - 82. Modeling the impact of the space environment on the materials and equipment of spacecraft " / Edited by Vernov S.N., in 3 volumes, Moscow, ed. Moscow State University, 1983, volume 2, p. 567. The method consists in that the increment of the spectral optical density of the optical system as a result of exposure to ionizing radiation of outer space is represented as the sum of the corresponding increments of the spectral optical density of individual elements of the system, determined by the product of the coefficient of radiation damage to the glass of the element by the total dose of ionizing radiation of outer space distributed over depth of the glass of the element, the coefficients of radiation damage to glasses are determined from the results of experiments, and the dose distribution over the depth of the element is considered known from other sources.
According to this method, the coefficient of radiation damage to glass is a specific increment of the spectral optical density of glass, that is, an increment in the spectral optical density created by exposure to a single absorbed dose of ionizing radiation per unit thickness of a glass sample and does not take into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation coloring of glass.
Corso AJ, Tessarolo Ε, Baccaro S, et al. Rad-hard properties of the optical glass adopted for the PLATO space telescope refractive components. Optics Express. 2018, Vol. 26, No. 26, DOI: 10.1364/OE.26.033841, pp. 33841-33855. There is a known method for determining the change in the transmittance of optical systems - the PLATO telescope, the elements of which are made of optical glasses, when exposed to ionizing radiation from outer space, described on pages 33851-33854 in Corso AJ, Tessarolo Ε, Baccaro S, et al. Rad-hard properties of the optical glass adopted for the PLATO space telescope refractive components. Optics Express. 2018 Vol. 26, no. 26, DOI: 10.1364/OE.26.033841, pp. 33841-33855. The method consists in the fact that for each of the glass brands used, according to the results of the experiment or reference data, the characteristics of the kinetics of radiation coloration of optical glass are determined, which coincide with the coefficient of radiation damage to glass that does not take into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation color of glass, which differs from the method described above of the book "Model of Outer Space ... "Volume 2, p. 567 only using natural logarithms instead of decimal logarithms, which is of no fundamental importance.
Then, using the characteristics of the orbit of the spacecraft and using special software (SPENVIS), the characteristics of ionizing radiation of outer space are determined - the energy spectra of protons, which in this case provide the main contribution to the dose. Using the obtained spectra of protons and the estimated duration of the operation of the spacecraft in orbit, using special software (MULASSIS, FASTRAD), the characteristics of ionizing radiation of outer space are determined - fluences of protons and integral energy spectra of the fluence of protons incident on each lens, taking into account the protective properties of the telescope design. Using special software (SHIELDOSE-2), the obtained integral energy spectra of the fluence of outer space protons determine the distribution of the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space along the optical axis of each lens using a model of the equivalent thickness of aluminum protection.
567.The relative change (decrease) in the spectral transmittance of the optical system of the PLATO telescope for the selected wavelength of light is determined in full accordance with the above sequence of the method described in the book “Space Model…”, Volume 2, p. 567. Differences of no fundamental importance lie in the use in the formulas of the work of Corso A J, Tessarolo E, Baccaro S, et al. bases of natural logarithms e=2.718… as the base of the degree, instead of base 10 in similar formulas described in the book “Space Model…”, Volume 2, p. 567 method, as well as the use of summation over lens layers in determining the increment in the spectral optical density of the lens in the above work Corso AJ, Tessarolo Ε, Baccaro S, et al. instead of integrating in the method described above of the book "Model of Outer Space ..." Volume 2, p. 567.
In this method, complex special software (SPENVIS, MULASSIS, FASTRAD, SHIELDOSE-2) is sequentially used, so that the results of applying the software of one stage are the initial data for applying the software of the next stage in the process of obtaining the result. This software is based on the use of complex data processing methods and mathematical models, including the use of three-dimensional hardware design models (FASTRAD) from appropriate CAD systems.
The closest analogue of the proposed method for determining the change in the transmittance of lens lenses of space equipment when exposed to ionizing radiation from outer space is the method for choosing brands of optical glasses for designing optical systems of space equipment, under conditions of prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation from outer space, described in the RF patent for the invention No. 2626450,
The objective of the invention is to create a method for determining the change in the transmittance of lens lenses of space equipment under the influence of ionizing radiation from outer space, which makes it possible to preliminarily estimate the radiation resistance of the lens using typical computer algebra tools without using special software and improve the accuracy of the result.
EFFECT: a method is proposed that allows to determine the radiation resistance of space equipment lenses with high accuracy without the use of special software and to increase the accuracy of the calculations as a result of a more complete consideration of the characteristics of the lens and equipment design.
This is achieved by the fact that in the method for determining the change in the transmittance of lens lenses of space equipment under the influence of ionizing radiation from outer space, the characteristics of the kinetics of radiation coloration of the optical glasses of the lens elements are determined, the distribution of the dose of ionizing radiation from outer space along the optical axis of the lens is determined by the method for determining local doses of ionizing radiation from outer space behind protective screens with an analytical surface shape, determine the increment in the spectral optical density, calculate the change in the spectral transmittance of the lens, depending on the result, change the design of the lens, in contrast to the known one, to determine the dose distribution of ionizing radiation from outer space along the optical axis of the lens, the lens elements approximate flat disks with a thickness equal to their thickness along the optical axis, approximation of the lens body by a cylinder produced from the conditions of equality of the radius of such a cylinder to the average radius of the lens elements, the dependence of the variable along the axis of the mass thickness of the cylinder wall is approximated based on the protective properties of the equipment and the lens body, the lens protection in the rear half-space is approximated by a flat disk or a segment of a sphere with a mass thickness according to the design of the equipment, lens protection in the front half-space, if available, they are approximated by a flat disk with a mass thickness according to the design of the equipment.
In addition, the characteristics of the kinetics of the radiation coloration of glasses of the lens elements can be determined either without taking into account the effect of bleaching of the radiation coloring of glass or taking into account the effect of bleaching of the radiation coloring of glass using the model of a continuous uniform energy distribution of traps in a finite energy range.
The invention is illustrated in the drawing.
The drawing shows an approximate design of the lens according to this invention. The z-axis of the selected coordinate system is directed along the optical axis of the lens in the direction of the light rays. The origin of coordinates is determined by the intersection of the z-axis with the plane of the front base of the cylinder approximating the design of the lens barrel. The radius of such a cylinder is denoted R, and its length is L. For the lens element with number i, where i=1,…, Ν, the glass density of the element is denoted by ρ i , the coordinate of the front surface of the approximated element is denoted by z 2i-1 and the coordinate of the back surface via z 2i . The mass thickness of the lens protection in the front half-space is designated X 1 , in the absence of such protection, we assume X 1 =0. The variable, in general, mass wall thickness of the approximated cylindrical lens body is denoted X 2 (z), and the mass thickness of the lens shield in the rear half-space is denoted X 3 . The mass thickness X 3 of the approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space by a flat disk is shown by a solid line, and for the case of approximation by a segment of a sphere, respectively, by a dotted line. At the current point z on the axis, a spherical coordinate system is introduced with the center at this point. The latitude angle θ of a given coordinate system is measured from the negative direction of the axis clockwise. The angles θ 1 (z) and θ 2 (z) correspond to the front and rear bases of the lens barrel approximated by a cylinder in a given spherical coordinate system.
569The method for determining the change in the transmittance of the lens objectives of space equipment under the influence of ionizing radiation of outer space according to the present invention consists in first determining the characteristics of the kinetics of the radiation coloration of the optical glasses of the lens elements. Characteristics of the kinetics of the radiation coloration of the optical glasses of the lens elements can be determined in two ways, either without taking into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation coloration or taking into account this effect. When determining the characteristics of the kinetics of the radiation coloration of the optical glasses of the lens, without taking into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation coloration, reference or experimental data on the change in the transmittance or, equivalently, the optical density of the glasses during exposure to ionizing radiation are analyzed and the values K i of the coefficients of radiation damage to the glasses of the lens elements are obtained according to the following the formula given in the book “Model of Outer Space. Space model - 82. Modeling the impact of the space environment on the materials and equipment of spacecraft " / Edited by Vernov S.N., in 3 volumes, Moscow, ed. Moscow State University, 1983, volume 2, p. 569

The radiation damage coefficient determined by formula (1) takes into account only the effect of the dose of ionizing radiation on the transmittance of the glass sample and does not take into account the effects associated with the rate of this dose and, accordingly, associated with the time of exposure to ionizing radiation and the destruction of the formed glass color centers over time . Thus, formula (1) determines the coefficient of radiation damage to glass without taking into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation color. The radiation damage coefficient, determined by formula (1), is the specific increment of the spectral optical density of glass, that is, the increment of the spectral optical density (which is in the numerator of the fraction on the right side of (1)), created by the action of an absorbed dose of ionizing radiation of 1 rad per unit thickness of the glass sample.
When determining the kinetics of the radiation coloration of the optical glasses of the lens, taking into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation coloration, reference or experimental data are analyzed on the change in the optical density of the glasses under the influence of ionizing radiation and subsequent discoloration after the end of irradiation, and according to the method of the patent of the Russian Federation for invention No. 2626450, the values of four characteristics of the kinetics of radiation coloration are obtained optical glasses, designated in the said patent as a, p 1 and p 2 , q, which describe a model of a continuous uniform energy distribution of traps in a finite energy range.
To determine the distribution of the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space along the optical axis of the lens, an approximation is made of the design of the lens and the protective properties of the equipment from the effects of ionizing radiation of outer space. The lens elements are approximated by flat disks with a thickness equal to their thickness along the optical axis. The lens body is approximated by a cylinder, the radius of which is equal to the average radius of the lens elements, and the cylinder wall in the general case has a mass thickness variable along the axis, approximating the total protective properties of the lens body and the equipment design from the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space on the lens elements from the side surface of the lens body . The mass thickness of the protection for a homogeneous material is defined as the product of the geometric thickness of the protection and the density of the protection material. The protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space from the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space is approximated by a flat disk or a segment of a sphere with a mass thickness according to the design of the equipment. The choice of approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space by a flat disk or a segment of a sphere is made based on the design features of the equipment near the last lens element.
The protection of the lens elements in the front half-space from the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space is used, for example, in the case of a protective lens cover that opens only for the duration of the equipment operation and is approximated by a flat disk with a mass thickness according to the equipment design.
To describe the characteristics of the approximated lens design, we introduce the z coordinate on the optical axis of the lens with the origin in the plane of the front base of the approximating cylinder (Fig.). Let's denote the length of the lens body approximated by the cylinder as L. For the lens element with number i, where i=1,…, Ν, the density of the lens glass, let's denote p i the coordinate of the front surface of the approximated element by z 2i-1 , and the coordinate of the rear surface by z 2i . Let us define the function ƒ(z), which describes the density distribution of lens element glasses, which is equal to 0 everywhere on the optical axis, except for the internal regions of the elements, and is described by the following expression:
Let us define the function F(z) of the lens mass thickness along the optical axis by the following expression:
Let us designate the mass thickness of the lens protection in the front half-space as X 1 , in the absence of such protection we assume X 1 =0. The variable, in the general case, the mass thickness of the wall of the approximated cylindrical body of the lens will be denoted by X 2 (z), and the mass thickness of the lens protection in the rear half-space will be denoted by X 3 . By introducing a spherical coordinate system (r, θ, ϕ) - (polar radius, latitude, longitude) centered at the current point z on the optical axis, for this point z we determine the angles θ 1 (z) and θ 2 (z) corresponding to the forward and rear bases of the cylindrical body and defined by the formulas below:
где:where:
- R - радиус аппроксимированного корпуса объектива;- R - radius of the approximated lens body;
- L - длина аппроксимированного корпуса объектива.- L - length of the approximated lens body.
Q(z).Let us denote the distribution function of the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space along the optical axis of the lens as Q(z).
Using the method for determining local doses of ionizing radiation from outer space behind protective screens with an analytical shape of surfaces patent No. 2564472, we write the value of Q(z) as the sum of three terms in accordance with the expression below:
где:where:
- U(X, a k) - функция непрерывной аналитической аппроксимации суммарной дозы ионизирующих излучений космического пространства для защитного экрана сферической формы и массовой толщины X, где a k - числовые параметры аппроксимации;- U(X, a k ) - function of continuous analytical approximation of the total dose of ionizing radiation of outer space for a protective screen of spherical shape and mass thickness X, where a k - numerical approximation parameters;
- dΩ=sin θ⋅dθdϕ - дифференциал телесного угла в сферической системе координат;- dΩ=sin θ⋅dθdϕ - solid angle differential in spherical coordinate system;
- Q1(z) - доза ионизирующих излучений космического пространства приходящих в данную точку z со стороны переднего основания цилиндрического корпуса из телесного угла Ω1 заданного в введенной сферической системе координат неравенством 0≤θ≤θ1(z);- Q 1 (z) - the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space coming to a given point z from the side of the front base of the cylindrical body from the solid angle Ω 1 given in the introduced spherical coordinate system by the inequality 0≤θ≤θ 1 (z);
- Q2(z) - доза ионизирующих излучений космического пространства приходящих в данную точку z через боковую поверхность цилиндрического корпуса из телесного угла Ω2 заданного в введенной сферической системе координат неравенством θ1(z)≤θ≤θ2(z);- Q 2 (z) - dose of ionizing radiation of outer space coming to a given point z through the side surface of the cylindrical body from the solid angle Ω 2 given in the introduced spherical coordinate system by the inequality θ 1 (z)≤θ≤θ 2 (z);
- Q3(z) - доза ионизирующих излучений космического пространства приходящих в данную точку z со стороны заднего основания цилиндрического корпуса из телесного угла Ω3 заданного в введенной сферической системе координат неравенством θ2(z)≤θ≤π.- Q 3 (z) - the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space coming to a given point z from the side of the rear base of the cylindrical body from the solid angle Ω 3 given in the introduced spherical coordinate system by the inequality θ 2 (z)≤θ≤π.
Учитывая геометрию защитных экранов с аналитической формой поверхности в аппроксимированной конструкции объектива - плоскость, цилиндр, сфера - запишем в явном виде выражения для доз Q1(z), Q2(z), Q3(z) в виде приведенных ниже соответствующих интегралов по углу широты θ.Since the approximate lens design is symmetrical with respect to rotations around the optical axis of the lens, that is, it does not depend on the value of the angle ϕ - latitude, then integration over the variable ϕ in formula (6) is reduced to multiplying by 2π. Taking into account the geometry of protective screens with an analytical surface shape in the approximated lens design - a plane, a cylinder, a sphere - we will explicitly write the expressions for doses Q 1 (z), Q 2 (z), Q 3 (z) in the form of the corresponding integrals given below angle of latitude θ.
When using the function F(z) of the mass thickness of the lens along the optical axis determined by formula (3), the expression for the dose Q 1 (z) has the following form:
где во втором интеграле формулы (16) произведена замена переменной интегрированияwhere in the second integral of formula (16) the integration variable has been replaced
и используется обозначениеand the notation is used
U(X, a k).and also, here and below, the designations of the numerical parameters a k in the designation of the function U(X, a k ) are omitted.
The argument of the function U(X) in the first integral in expression (7) is the value of the total mass protection thickness of the point z for the values of the angle θ from the interval 0≤θ≤θ 1 (z) as explained in the drawing.
In the case of approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space from the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space by a flat disk, the expression for the dose Q 3 (z) has the following form:
где во втором интеграле формулы (10) произведена замена переменной интегрирования (8) и используется обозначениеwhere in the second integral of formula (10) the integration variable (8) has been replaced and the notation is used
In formula (11), the sign of the modulus of magnitude is used, since the value of the angle θ 2 (z)>π/2, by definition of this angle for the rear half-space, due to which the cosine of the angle θ 2 (z) takes negative values.
The argument of the function U(X) in the first integral in expression (10) is the value of the total mass thickness of the protection of the point z for the values of the angle θ from the interval θ 2 (z)≤θ≤π in the case of approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space by a flat disk, as this is illustrated by the drawing.
In the case of approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space from the effects of ionizing radiation from outer space by a sphere segment, the expression for the dose Q 3 (z) has the following form:
В указанном случае аппроксимации защиты элементов объектива в заднем полупространстве сегментом сферы, предполагается, что массовая толщина такой защиты одинакова для всех элементов объектива, но соответствующие телесные углы, в котором имеет место такая защита, различны для разных элементов в соответствии с формулой (5) для величины плоского угла θ2(z), определяющего такой телесный угол.where in the second integral of formula (12) the integration variable (8) has been replaced and the notation (11) is used. In this case of approximation of the protection of lens elements in the rear half-space by a segment of a sphere, it is assumed that the mass thickness of such protection is the same for all elements of the lens, but the corresponding solid angles in which such protection takes place are different for different elements in accordance with formula (5) for the magnitude of the plane angle θ 2 (z), which determines such a solid angle.
The argument of the function U(X) in the first integral in expression (12) is the value of the total mass thickness of the protection of the point z for the values of the angle θ from the interval θ 2 (z)≤θ≤π in the case of approximation of the protection of the lens elements in the rear half-space by a sphere segment, as this is illustrated by the drawing.
The expression for the dose Q 2 (z) is as follows:
The argument of the function U(X) in the integral in expression (13) is the value of the total mass thickness of the protection of the point z for the values of the angle θ from the interval θ 1 (z)≤θ≤θ 2 (z), as explained in the drawing.
For the purpose of calculating the dose value Q 2 (z) by numerical methods in the computer algebra system, in the integral (13) it is more convenient to go from integrating over the angle θ of the spherical coordinate system to integrating over the linear variable y (where 0≤у≤L) along the optical axis of the lens . In the range of values θ 1 (z)≤θ≤θ 2 (z), the values of the variables y and θ for the current value of the z coordinate are related by the following geometric relations:
After replacing the integration variable θ with y according to formula (14), expression (13) for the dose Q 2 (z) will be rewritten in the following form
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that in the integrand (17) with the value y=z, the argument of the function U(X) contains an uncertainty of the form 0/0, and for the purposes of using numerical methods for calculating the corresponding integral, the argument of the function U(X) should be redefined at the point y=z. Using the definition (3) of the function F(z) of the lens mass thickness along the optical axis, we obtain the following expression:
Taking into account relation (18), the uncertainty of the argument of the function U(X) in the numerator of the integrand (17) with the value of the integration variable y=z is removed by redefining the value of the function U(X) at this point as follows:
After carrying out the calculations described above, summing the doses Q 1 (z), Q 2 (z), Q 3 (z) according to the right side of formula (6), we obtain an expression for Q (z) - the distribution function of the dose of ionizing radiation of outer space along the optical lens axis.
For the lens element with number i, the value of Q i,av - the average dose on the optical axis of this element is calculated according to the following expression:
(2).where the values of the coordinates of the front and rear surfaces of the approximated element are used - z 2i-1 and z 2i , respectively, defined by expression (2).
After that, the value of Q i,cp obtained by formula (20) of the average dose on the optical axis of this element with number i can be used to determine the increase in the optical density of the glass of the element under the action of ionizing radiation from outer space without taking into account the effect of discoloration of the radiation coloration of glass using the value of the specific increments in the spectral optical density of glass according to formula (1) or taking into account the effect of bleaching of the radiation coloration of glass according to the method of RF patent for invention No. 2626450 using the model of a continuous uniform distribution of traps over energies in a finite energy range. In the second case, the value of Q i,cp obtained by formula (20) must be used as described in the method of patent No. 2626450, starting with formula (24) of the description of the invention to patent No. 2626450, to estimate the average dose rate of ionizing radiation from outer space on the optical axis element of the optical system, taking into account the protective properties of the design of the equipment.
Thus, a technical result has been achieved, which makes it possible to determine the radiation resistance of space equipment lenses with high accuracy without the use of special software and to increase the accuracy of the calculations as a result of a more complete consideration of the characteristics of the lens and equipment design.
