Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the oil industry, but can be used in other industries where it is required to measure the concentration of two substances in a sample consisting of their mixture.
In particular, in oil production, the production of oil wells consists mainly of a mixture of oil, associated water and associated natural gas. When organizing the accounting of produced products, the problem arises of measuring the amount of each component of the flow of the oil-water-gas mixture. This invention relates to the determination of the water cut of crude oil - that is, the mass or volume fraction of water in the liquid component of an oil well product, which is a mixture of mainly oil and formation water.
There are many ways to measure the water-cut of a crude oil (the concentration of water in a mixture of oil and water). Thus, there is a known method [1] for determining the content of the volume fraction of water in oils or petroleum products. This method includes weighing certain volumetric portions at a temperature of +20 degrees Celsius separately of water, separately dehydrated oil, and a separately investigated sample of a mixture of water and oil, then, according to the masses of these portions measured in this way, the required volumetric water content in the sample is determined by calculation ... This method has some limitations in its application. In particular, it is specifically indicated that all three portions of substances during weighing must have a temperature of + 20 ° C, and such a requirement is feasible, mainly, only in laboratory conditions. In addition, the product of an oil production well almost always contains gas in a dissolved state, and this dissolved gas passes into a free state when the sample pressure decreases from elevated to atmospheric. As a result, the liquid becomes gas-saturated, that is, free gas bubbles are present in the liquid layer (a mixture of water and oil). In this case, the volume of such a liquid with gas bubbles increases significantly, which complicates the application of this method and worsens its accuracy, since the presence of gas does not allow accurate measurement of a certain volume of liquid. In addition, a crude oil sample tends to delaminate by gravity into heavy and light fractions - water and oil. This makes it difficult to measure a certain volume, taking into account the requirement to maintain the percentage of water in the sample.
There is also known a method [2], based on measuring the volume of water evaporated from a certain volume of the investigated sample of oil when it is heated to boiling point in the presence of a special solvent. This method for determining the water content can only be carried out in a laboratory, is highly labor-intensive, requires a significant amount of time for analysis, and its accuracy may depend on the qualifications of the operator.
There is also known a method [3] based on measuring the dielectric constant of a mixture of oil and water. This method includes measuring the dielectric constant of the crude oil and calculating the water content mathematically based on the given dielectric constant values of water and oil separately. This method has some limitations in its application. In particular, this method is used only in a narrow range of water content, since when the water content changes over a wide range, an off-design change in the physical characteristics of the mixture is observed. The accuracy of the determination is influenced by the type of microstructure of the mixture - "water in oil" or "oil in water". Further, the accuracy of determining the concentration of water is affected by the presence of free gas, since the dielectric constant of the gas is close to the dielectric constant of oil. In addition, the degree of uneven mixing of the components in the crude oil sample can affect the accuracy of determining the water content by this method.
The proposed calorimetric method for measuring the water-cut of a sample makes it possible to reduce or eliminate the influence of additional methodological errors on the accuracy of sample analysis, to reduce the labor intensity and cost of the analysis, and to increase the degree of automation of the analysis.
These goals are achieved by applying the calorimetric method to the determination of water content.
The essence of the way
Let us outline the essence of the proposed method as applied to a liquid sample, that is, to a certain volume of liquid withdrawn from the flow. A liquid sample, for which the water content is analyzed, is weighed and placed in a thermodynamically insulated container - a calorimeter. After the sample comes into thermodynamic equilibrium with the inner walls of the calorimeter, measure the temperature of this sample t 1 . Thus, the initial state of the sample is recorded.
Further, a certain amount of heat Q is supplied to the sample in one way or another, or this amount of heat Q is removed from the sample. When heat is supplied or removed, the sample temperature changes in accordance with the sign of the supplied heat Q - it increases or decreases. After the transfer of the specified amount of heat Q, it is necessary to wait a while to establish an equilibrium thermal regime inside the calorimeter, and when it occurs, measure the temperature of the sample t 2 again.
(1)Thus, the initial measured information is recorded: the mass of the sample m , the transferred amount of heat Q , the initial temperature t 1 , the final temperature t 2 . In the future, knowing the specific heat capacities of water c in , oil c n , heat capacity of the calorimeter C to , by mathematical calculation calculate the mass fraction of water μ in . The calculation is made according to the formula (1)
If necessary, based on the obtained mass fraction of water μ in using known values of water density and oil density, the volume fraction (concentration) of water in the crude oil sample is calculated.
The advantage of this method is that free gas has a negligible effect on the accuracy of water-cut measurement, since its mass is negligible in relation to the mass of the crude oil sample m . Another advantage of this method is independence from the degree of mixing of oil and water in the sample - these two liquids can be mixed to one degree or another or stratified, this does not in any way affect the accuracy of the analysis. Further, the measuring operations (measuring the sample mass, temperature and amount of heat) are quite simple, do not require highly qualified personnel and can be easily automated. Precise measurement of sample volume is not required. The analysis can be carried out both in laboratory conditions and directly at the place of oil production. As a consequence, the proposed method makes it possible to simplify the analysis, reduce additional methodological errors and the cost of analysis.
