Abstract
Description
2.The invention relates to methods for processing substandard tablet products of the production of MOX fuel before the sintering process, which is a compacted mixture of UO 2 and PuO 2 .
From the existing level of technology there is a method of dissolving substandard and spent nuclear fuel [Patent RU 2400466, publ. September 27, 2010], including the dissolution of uranium oxides, substandard and spent oxide nuclear fuel and MOX fuel in a solution of Fe (III) nitrate or chloride. In this method, the dissolution of a solid solution of PuO 2 (4.6 wt.%) In UO 2 (MOX fuel) is carried out at room temperature in aqueous weakly acidic solutions of FeCl 3 × 6H 2 O or Fe (NO 3 ) 3 × 9H 2 O at The pH of the medium is 1.0-1.4 and the molar ratio of fuel to iron salt is 1: (2.1-2.5). The disadvantages of the method are: the presence of corrosive components that complicate radiochemical processing; an increase in the amount of generated SRW; the difficulty of maintaining a specified range of acid concentration; the use of reagents initiating the formation of secondary precipitation, complicating the operation of subsequent clarification.
In the production of MOX fuel for pressing operations, substandard technological turns are formed, which are a mechanical mixture of separately obtained uranium and plutonium dioxides, as well as zinc stearate used as a plasticizer. Substandard technological turns in the form of tablets and their fragments, which were not subjected to sintering, are subject to processing and return to the technological scheme.
For selective dissolution of uranium, unsintered material is most suitable than sintered, since the dissolution of uranium dioxide occurs not only due to protonation of the dioxide, but also due to oxidation with nitric acid.
In this case, the dissolution of plutonium occurs only due to protonation:
However, upon dissolution of the green material, a significant amount of an independent phase of stearic acid (CH 3 (CH 2 ) 16 COOH), zinc stearate (Zn (CH 3 (CH 2 ) 16 COO) 2 ) and their decomposition products are formed. Stearic acid and its salts have limited solubility in aqueous solutions of strong acids, which initiates the process of precipitation, and also causes sorption separation of the target components into the formed solid phase. For this reason, before the dissolution operation to remove organic components, it is advisable to conduct heat treatment of substandard technological turns.
Из литературных источников [N. Desigan, Nivar P. Bhatt, N.K. Pandey, U. Kamachi Mudali, R. Natarajan, J.B. Joshi. Journal Radioanalitic Nuclear Chemistry. 2017. Madic, М. Lecomte. Journal Less-Common Metals, 1986. Vol.122, pp 303-311]. [US patent 4 686 019 Dissolution of PuO2 or NpO2 using electrolytically regenerated reagents From literary sources [N. Desigan, Nivar P. Bhatt, NK Pandey, U. Kamachi Mudali, R. Natarajan, JB Joshi. Journal of Radioanalitic Nuclear Chemistry. 2017. Vol.312, pp 141-149] it is known about the high dissolution rate of uranium dioxide proceeding by a nitrite-dependent mechanism in nitric acid solutions, in turn plutonium dioxide, a sparingly soluble compound, is not oxidized by nitric or nitrous acid [J. Bourges, S. Madic, M. Lecomte. Journal Less-Common Metals, 1986. Vol. 122, pp 303-311]. However, a method is known for electrochemical dissolution of plutonium dioxide using divalent silver [US patent 4,686,019 Dissolution of PuO 2 or NpO 2 using electrolytically regenerated reagents of 09/26/1984], while the possibility of quantitative dissolution of uranium dioxide under these conditions is obvious. A negative factor in this case is the oxidation of nitrous acid with divalent silver, which intensifies the process of dissolution of uranium dioxide.
Joint electrochemical dissolution of substandard fuel composition leads to: priority consumption of generated silver (II) in the dissolution of uranium dioxide; reducing the rate of dissolution of plutonium dioxide and, as a consequence, reducing the overall performance of electrolytic equipment. Moreover, the radiochemical separation of plutonium from the resulting product by the sorption method is complicated by the content of the predominant amount of uranium in it. The need for separate dissolution of uranium and plutonium is a prerequisite of the present invention.
Closest to the claimed method is a method of dissolving a mixture of oxides of uranium and plutonium and a device for its implementation [Patent RU 2171506, publ. 07.27.2001], including the dissolution of a mixture of uranium and plutonium oxides and / or mixed oxides (U, Pu) O 2 in a solution of nitric acid using divalent silver formed during electrolysis. In this method, the dissolution is carried out sequentially in two stages in the same device, inside which the reacting solution circulates in the circuit. In the first stage, dissolving in a 360 g / l solution of nitric acid without the presence of divalent silver at a temperature of 80 ° C is carried out, in the second stage, an insoluble residue, mainly consisting of plutonium dioxide, is dissolved in nitric acid with a concentration of 240-360 g / l using divalent silver obtained by electrolysis at a temperature of 25 ° C. The disadvantages of the method are: obtaining as a result of dissolution of the product from which the release of plutonium by a sorption method on an anion exchange resin is complicated by a significant content of uranium. The main drawback is the inefficient use of the production capacities of electrolytic equipment for opening mixed uranium and plutonium oxides, because of the need to dissolve uranium dioxide in the first stage.
The objective of the invention is to obtain in the process of dissolution of substandard pelletized products of the production of MOX fuel plutonium stream suitable for sorption refining.
The problem is solved in that in the method of dissolving substandard pelletized products of MOX fuel production, substandard material is treated in an inert gas stream at a temperature of 400-450 ° C, uranium is extracted into a solution of nitric acid with a concentration of 90 to 180 g / l at a temperature 81-95 ° С followed by separation of the formed nitric acid solution of uranyl nitrate, and then the plutonium-containing insoluble residue is opened in the presence of electrolytically generated divalent silver in creates nitric acid with a concentration from 240 to 360 g / l at a temperature of 30-40 ° C.
The technical result of the invention is the quantitative dissolution of a substandard fuel composition to produce a single uranium product containing more than 98% uranium and less than 0.1% plutonium, and a separate plutonium product containing less than 2% uranium and more than 99.9% plutonium from the original amount. The technical result allows for subsequent sorption refining of the plutonium stream without preliminary preparatory operations and return the target components to the technological scheme.
The essence of the invention lies in the selective leaching of uranium from a substandard fuel composition, ensuring its quantitative separation with the formation of a separate uranium stream. The separation of the uranium product in a separate stream with the preservation of plutonium in solid phase form of dioxide and its subsequent dissolution using electrolytically generated silver is a hallmark of the proposed method.
The proposed method is implemented in accordance with the flowchart shown in FIG. 1 in the following sequence. Substandard material is tablets and / or fragments of tablets that have not been sintered and consisting of a mechanically compacted mixture of UO 2 and PuO 2 , to which zinc stearate has been added as a plasticizer. To remove the plasticizer, heat treatment is preliminarily carried out in an ohmic heating furnace at a temperature of 400-450 ° C in an inert gas stream. In a particular case, an argon stream is used. After heat treatment, the resulting material is loaded into a nuclear-safe apparatus, 90-180 g / l nitric acid solution is poured with a volume of T: L = 1: (3-7) and selective uranium is extracted into the solution at a temperature of 81-95 ° С for 2 -8 hours with stirring by sparging with compressed air. As a result of the treatment, plutonium remains in solid phase form as an undissolved residue. The resulting solution of uranyl nitrate is separated by filtration in a particular case using an immersion device. The insoluble residue is additionally washed with 60-90 g / L nitric acid solution, filtered and transferred in suspended form to the anode space of the cell. The required volume of 240-360 g / l nitric acid solution with a silver content of 9-11 g / l is calculated as T: L = 1: (14-18) into the cathode space of the electrolyzer. Electrochemical dissolution is carried out for 6-12 hours to obtain a plutonium stream suitable for sorption refining. The separation of plutonium from a nitric acid solution is carried out on an anion-exchange vinyl pyridine resin in a column type device.
An example implementation of the method.
A portion of substandard material for the production of MOX fuel weighing 25 g, which is a mechanically compacted mixture of UO 2 and PuO 2 , as well as a plasticizer (zinc stearate), was loaded into an ohmic heating furnace for heat treatment in an inert atmosphere. The loaded material was heated at a rate of 10 ° C / min to a temperature of 430 ° C with a constant flow of argon into the working zone of the furnace at a rate of 50 ml / min. Heat treatment was carried out for 5 hours.
After heat treatment, the material was loaded into a solvent apparatus for the process of selective extraction of uranium into a solution of nitric acid. A 120 g / L solution of nitric acid was poured into the apparatus with a volume of T: W = 1: 5. The process was carried out at a temperature of 90 ° C for 6 hours with constant stirring by sparging with compressed air.
The uranyl nitrate solution was separated using a submersible filter. A metal-ceramic membrane with a pore size of 0.2-0.5 μm was used as a filter element. The filter element was regenerated by compressed air in a pulsed feed mode. The insoluble residue containing the main amount of plutonium was additionally washed with 80 g / L nitric acid solution for quantitative removal of uranium, filtered off and transferred in suspended form to the anode space of the cell. According to the results of the analytical control of the uranium product, 98% of uranium and less than 0.1% of plutonium from the initial content passed into the solution. The mass of insoluble residue was 5.12 g.
To open the plutonium-containing residue, a 400 g / L solution of nitric acid with a silver content of 11 g / L was introduced into the anode space at the rate of T: W = 1: 15. The process of electrochemical dissolution of the plutonium-containing residue was carried out at a temperature of 35 ° C for 7 hours. The anode current density was 1.6 A / cm 2 . As a result, a quantitative dissolution of the plutonium-containing residue was obtained to obtain a plutonium stream separate from uranium. The plutonium content in the solution was 36.7 g / l.
Before the operation of sorption refining of plutonium, the initial solution was adjusted by diluting 400 g / l with a solution of nitric acid to obtain the required conditions for the plutonium content and stabilization of plutonium in the tetravalent state. Stabilization was carried out with constant stirring with the addition of a hydrogen peroxide solution under the mirror of the reaction volume to a concentration of 8 g / L. To remove excess hydrogen peroxide, the resulting solution was heated to a temperature of 80 ° C.
0,02%.The process of sorption refining of plutonium was carried out in a column type apparatus at a temperature of 60 ° C. An anion exchange resin VP-1AP was used as a sorbent. The initial plutonium solution was dosed at a rate of 5 columns / hour. After processing the entire volume of the plutonium product obtained by dissolving 5.12 g of the residue, the sorption column was washed by passing 8 column volumes of 440 g / l of nitric acid solution at a rate of 2.5 columns / hour. Plutonium was desorbed from the sorbent by passing 10 column volumes of a 30 g / l nitric acid solution at a rate of 2.5 columns / hour. Column washing and plutonium desorption was carried out at a temperature of 60 ° C. Received a plutonium solution of conditions for impurity elements that satisfy production needs. The plutonium content was 6.3 g / l, the total content of impurity elements was not more than 0.02%, including Ca less than 0.001%, Mg less than 0.0006%, Al less than 0.0003%, Ni less than 0.004%, Cr less than 0.002%, Si less than 0.001%, Fe less than 0.02%.
The proposed method, in contrast to the prototype method, allows to increase the performance of the dissolution unit due to the selective dissolution of uranium in a nuclear safety apparatus, to obtain separate streams of uranium and plutonium with the possibility of refining and separation of plutonium by a sorption method on anion-exchange vinyl pyridine resin, and also does not require additional preparatory operations before sorption cleaning.
