Abstract
Description
The invention relates to applied optics and can be used in systems for stabilizing the frequency of optical radiation, creating benchmarks for the frequency of optical radiation, measuring the frequency of optical radiation, in "Fountain" systems of frequency standards.
1 (Review of scientific instrument 76,063112 (2005) Double-pass acousto-optic modulator system. E.A. Donley, T.P. Heavner, F. Levi, M.O. Tataw and S.R. Various designs with frequency motors are known, for example, as shown in FIG. 1 (Review of scientific instrument 76.063112 (2005) Double-pass acousto-optic modulator system. E.A. Donley, T.P. Heavner, F. Levi, M.O. Tataw and S.R. Jefferts) and selected for the prototype.
A two-crystal acousto-optical frequency shifter (DAOCH), in which sequential diffraction of light radiation occurs, unlike single ones, has such an important advantage: ease of adjustment of the DAOCH. In DAOSCH there is no need to use a phase plate, a cat-eye lens and a reflective mirror. A cat-eye lens and a reflective mirror must be very precisely aligned. In addition, unlike AO cells of the midrange using a cat's-eye lens, DAOOS uses AO cells with anisotropic diffraction. The efficiency of anisotropic acousto-optic diffraction by paratellurite crystals is ten times higher than the efficiency of isotropic acousto-optic diffraction. The control power is accordingly reduced.
The disadvantage of this device is the significantly greater control power, the use of additional optical elements (phase plate, a cat-eye lens and mirrors requiring precise adjustment).
AOSCH is also known, using anisotropic diffraction, but the direction of propagation of diffracted radiation in it depends on the shear frequency. Thus, it is necessary to mechanically adjust the receiving path for each shear frequency.
The disadvantage of this device is that when changing the frequency shift value, a mechanical adjustment of the position of the receiving lens is necessary.
The problem solved by the present invention is the creation of AOSCH, devoid of the disadvantages of previously developed devices. The developed DAOCH does not change the direction of propagation of the optical beam when the frequency shift of the optical radiation changes, it requires less control power, there is no need to use additional optical elements that require precise alignment.
The technical result is achieved due to the fact that the device is a double-crystal acousto-optical frequency shift of the optical radiation with a double frequency shift and the stability of the angular position of the output beam is ensured by sequential diffraction of the light beam in two symmetrically located acousto-optic cells with the same geometry of acousto-optical interaction, while between the cells it is established a device for suppressing a part of a light beam with a polarization that is not diffracted in the first cell analogous to the polarization of the input beam. In the dual-crystal AOSCH, a paratellurite crystal is used as the AOI material. A polarizer can be used as a suppression device for the part of the light beam that has not diffracted in the first cell.
The role of the device for suppressing the non-diffracted beam can be performed by the AOI, made in such a way that successive reflection from one face and the passage of light through the other side from the first AOI to the second AOI suppresses non-diffracted radiation in the first AOI.
The invention is illustrated by drawings.

In FIG. 2 is a diagram of a two-crystal acousto-optical frequency shifter, where 1 is the AOI, 2 is the polarizer, Tr is the ultrasonic transducer, the signs ↑ and ο indicate the polarization states of the light beam.
In FIG. Figure 3 shows a diagram of a two-crystal acousto-optical frequency shifter in which the selection of polarizations is provided by the AOJ design.
The device operates as follows. Optical radiation (laser beam) sequentially passes through the first AOI, undergoes acousto-optical diffraction, then the non-diffracted part of the radiation is cut off by a selective element, then it enters the second AOI, where the AO diffraction process once again occurs. In this case, a beam of extraordinary polarization (for an optically positive crystal) enters the first AOI and, as a result of acousto-optical diffraction, transforms into ordinary polarization. In the case of an optically negative crystal, the input radiation of ordinary polarization, diffracted extraordinary. The radiation frequency in this case is shifted relative to the frequency of the incident radiation by the frequency of the ultrasonic wave excited in the AOI. By choosing the direction of light propagation, one can obtain both positive and negative values of the frequency shift of the optical radiation (AOI is used with the interaction geometry corresponding to the geometry of the acousto-optical deflector). In this case, the diffracted beam will change the direction of propagation relative to the direction of the incident beam. The deflection angle of the diffracted beam depends on the frequency of the optical radiation and the frequency of the ultrasonic wave. In the linear approximation, the deflection angle is proportional to the frequency of the ultrasonic wave. Then, the diffracted radiation enters the second AOI, which is identical to the first, but rotated 180 ° relative to the axis perpendicular to the plane of the AO interaction. In the second AOI, reverse AO diffraction occurs, and the diffracted optical beam changes polarization again. In this case, the frequency of the optical radiation is once again shifted by the frequency of the ultrasonic wave. Thus, the frequency of the optical radiation is shifted to twice the frequency of the ultrasonic wave. Since the geometry of the AO interaction in the second AOI is the same as in the first AOA, the second time the diffracted radiation has the same propagation direction as the radiation incident on the first AOI. Since AOIs are used with the AO interaction geometry corresponding to the AO geometry of the deflector, for a given wavelength of laser radiation it is possible to carry out effective AO interaction in a wide band of sound frequencies. As a result, the frequency of the laser beam without changing its direction can be changed to twice the frequency of the ultrasonic wave excited in the AO cells. In the case of using optically positive crystals for AO cells, the polarization of the radiation incident on the DAOCH and the polarization coming out from the DAOCH is unusual, for the AO cells of optically negative crystals, the polarization of the input and output radiation is ordinary. Since it is impossible to guarantee 100% efficiency of AO diffraction at the exit from the first AOI, the presence of non-diffracted radiation is possible. In order for it not to be mixed with double-diffracted radiation in the future, it should be suppressed. This can be done either by spatial (for example, a diaphragm) or polarization selection of direct and diffracted radiation. When suppressing a direct beam between two AOIs, at the output of the second AOI there is also radiation that has twice diffracted (the useful part of the radiation), radiation that has diffracted only once. But at the output of DAOCH it is enough to apply spatial selection, since there is a rather large angle between the direction of propagation of these rays (angle of diffraction AO). The same procedure - sequential diffraction - can be performed on one AOI, by spatially separating the first and second pass of the AOI, for example, using a prism reflector. The disadvantage of this design is that it is necessary to use a prism reflector and it is difficult to achieve equally high diffraction efficiency in different spatially separated sections of the AOI, especially in the frequency band.
A scheme of a two-crystal acousto-optical frequency shifter is possible, in which the role of the polarizer is performed by sequential total internal reflection with angular dilution of beams of different polarizations in the first AOI and the passage of light with ordinary polarization through the beveled faces of the first and second AOI.
In the case of a dual-crystal AOSC, adjusting the diffraction efficiency at each point of the spectral range can be independently controlled on each AOI. When crystalline paratellurite (which is an optically positive crystal) is used as the AOI material, the input and output polarizations are extraordinary, once diffracted radiation has an ordinary polarization. If the directions of propagation of the incident and diffracted radiation are close to the optical axis of the crystal, the intrinsic polarizations are no longer linear, but have ellipticity, which must be taken into account when constructing the DASF. Difficulties with significant ellipticity may prevail over the positive effect of such a scheme. These problems exist in any anisotropic frequency shifter and can occur at small values of the frequency shift.
