Abstract
Description
Изобретение относится к области фракционирования полидисперсных смесей нано- и микрочастиц и может быть применено для выделения фракций частиц заданного размерного диапазона. Изобретение может быть использовано для решения как исследовательских, так и технологических задач по фракционированию образцов окружающей среды (пыли, вулканического пепла, почвы), биологических и синтетических частиц, а также образцов порошковых функциональных материалов, в том числе сорбентов.The invention relates to the field of fractionation of polydisperse mixtures of nano- and microparticles and can be used to isolate particle fractions of a given size range. The invention can be used to solve both research and technological problems of fractionation of environmental samples (dust, volcanic ash, soil), biological and synthetic particles, as well as samples of powder functional materials, including sorbents.
An analogue of the claimed method is a method of separation of streams, or SPLITT-fractionation (US 4894146 A, publ. 16.01.1990). Fractionation takes place in a narrow slit-like channel, which has two inputs and two outputs, and is achieved due to the action of gravity and regulation of the velocities of incoming flows. The sample is fed into the upper inlet and forms a thin layer in the separation channel. Under the influence of gravity, the largest particles settle in the carrier fluid stream and are carried off into the lower outlet, while small particles fall into the upper outlet. The known method allows to fractionate microparticles both on analytical and preparative scales.
Недостатками известного способа являются невозможность фракционирования частиц размером менее 1 мкм, в том числе наночастиц, поскольку разделение проходит в поле сил притяжения Земли. Кроме того, недостатком известного способа является возможность получения в результате разделения всего двух фракций частиц (например, более 5 мкм и менее 5 мкм).The disadvantages of this method are the impossibility of fractionation of particles smaller than 1 μm, including nanoparticles, since the separation takes place in the field of the Earth's attractive forces. In addition, the disadvantage of this method is the possibility of obtaining as a result of separation of only two fractions of particles (for example, more than 5 microns and less than 5 microns).
Closest to the claimed method is the method of sedimentation flow fractionation in the transverse field of centrifugal forces (WO 2012128833 A1, publ. 09.27.2012). In this method, the separation takes place in a narrow slit-like channel with a thickness (25-300 μm), having the shape of a ring. The separation channel is integrated in the centrifuge rotor. Fractionation occurs due to the simultaneous influence of the field of centrifugal forces directed perpendicular to the separation channel, and the velocity gradient of the laminar flow on the mixture of particles, which causes them to migrate at different speeds depending on their size and density and, therefore, sequential elution of particle fractions. The method is suitable for separating particles ranging in size from 10 nm to 50 microns.
Недостатком известного способа является ограничение на массу смеси частиц для фракционирования, как правило, не превышающую 1 мг, что не позволяет использовать его для решения препаративных задач по разделению частиц. Данное ограничение связано с очень малой емкостью разделительного канала. Кроме того, при решении задач аналитической химии чувствительность методов анализа фракций должна быть достаточно высока с учетом небольшой массы разделяемой смеси частиц.The disadvantage of this method is the restriction on the mass of the mixture of particles for fractionation, as a rule, not exceeding 1 mg, which does not allow it to be used for solving preparative problems of particle separation. This limitation is due to the very small capacity of the separation channel. In addition, when solving analytical chemistry problems, the sensitivity of fraction analysis methods should be sufficiently high, taking into account the small mass of the particle mixture to be separated.
Задачей настоящего изобретения является разработка эффективного метода фракционирования полидисперсных смесей нано- и микрочастиц с увеличением массы разделяемой смеси частиц.The objective of the present invention is to develop an effective method of fractionation of polydisperse mixtures of nano - and microparticles with an increase in the mass of the separated mixture of particles.
Технический результат поставленной задачи достигается тем, что проточное фракционирование частиц осуществляется в разделительном канале, встроенном в планетарную центрифугу. Схема планетарной центрифуги со встроенным разделительным каналом представлена на чертеже.The technical result of the task is achieved by the fact that the flow fractionation of particles is carried out in a separation channel built into a planetary centrifuge. The scheme of a planetary centrifuge with an integrated separation channel is shown in the drawing.
Схема планетарной центрифуги со встроенным разделительным каналом для фракционирования смесей нано- и микрочастиц включает разделительный канал 7, сердечник 2 планетарной центрифуги, ось 3 вращения разделительного канала, ось 4 обращения разделительного канала.The scheme of a planetary centrifuge with an integrated separation channel for fractionation of mixtures of nano- and microparticles includes a separation channel 7, a
Указанный технический результат достигается следующим образом. В способе фракционирования полидисперсных смесей нано- и микрочастиц суспензию смеси частиц, приготовленную на основе жидкости-носителя, вводят в потоке жидкости-носителя в разделительный канал. Разделительный канал установлен на сердечник планетарной центрифуги (RU 2126722, опубл. 27.02.1999). Планетарная центрифуга вращается с угловой скоростью в диапазоне 100-3000 об/мин. Фракции элюируют в порядке увеличения размера частиц.The specified technical result is achieved as follows. In the method of fractionation of polydisperse mixtures of nano- and microparticles, a suspension of a mixture of particles prepared on the basis of a carrier fluid is introduced into the separation channel in a carrier fluid stream. The separation channel is installed on the core of a planetary centrifuge (RU 2126722, publ. 02.27.1999). A planetary centrifuge rotates at an angular speed in the range of 100-3000 rpm. Fractions elute in order of increasing particle size.
Фракции частиц выделяют при постоянной скорости потока или при ступенчатом увеличении скорости потока жидкости-носителя в диапазоне 0.1-100 мл/мин.Particle fractions are isolated at a constant flow rate or with a stepwise increase in the flow rate of the carrier fluid in the range 0.1-100 ml / min.
Также фракции частиц можно выделять при изменении скорости вращения планетарной центрифуги в диапазоне 100-3000 об/мин.Also, particle fractions can be distinguished by changing the rotation speed of a planetary centrifuge in the range of 100-3000 rpm.
В качестве жидкости-носителя используют воду, водные солевые растворы или органические растворители различной плотности.As the carrier fluid, water, aqueous salt solutions or organic solvents of various densities are used.
Кроме того, сердечник, на котором установлена разделительная колонка, может иметь нецилиндрическую форму.In addition, the core on which the separation column is mounted may have a non-cylindrical shape.
Заявленный способ фракционирования подходит для фракционирования полидисперсных смесей нано- и микрочастиц массой до 100 г. Ограничение массы разделяемых частиц связано с техническим ограничением максимального общего объема разделительного канала, который составляет от 10 мл до 10 л. Перед началом фракционирования в разделительный канал, предварительно заполненный жидкостью-носителем, вводят смесь разделяемых частиц в виде суспензии, приготовленной на основе той же жидкости-носителе.The claimed fractionation method is suitable for fractionation of polydisperse mixtures of nano- and microparticles weighing up to 100 g. The limitation of the mass of particles to be separated is associated with the technical limitation of the maximum total volume of the separation channel, which is from 10 ml to 10 l. Before fractionation begins, a mixture of particles to be separated in the form of a suspension prepared on the basis of the same carrier liquid is introduced into the separation channel pre-filled with the carrier fluid.
Разделительный канал представляет собой трубку с внутренним диаметром 0.5-10 мм. Ограничение минимального диаметра разделительного канала обусловлено возможностью забивания его разделяемыми частицами. Ограничение максимального диаметра разделительного канала связано со снижением эффективности процесса фракционирования.The separation channel is a tube with an inner diameter of 0.5-10 mm. The limitation of the minimum diameter of the separation channel is due to the possibility of clogging it with shared particles. The limitation of the maximum diameter of the separation channel is associated with a decrease in the efficiency of the fractionation process.
The separation channel is mounted on a rigid planetary centrifuge core having a cylindrical or other geometric shape. The choice of the core geometry of the planetary centrifuge depends on the task of fractionation, because it determines the different distribution of the vectors of centrifugal forces and, thus, affects the fractionation process as a whole. During the separation process, the separation channel rotates around the axis of the core of the planetary centrifuge and at the same time rotates around its central axis with the same angular velocity.
В качестве жидкости-носителя можно использовать воду, водные солевые растворы или органические растворители различной плотности. Выбор жидкости-носителя обусловлен свойствами поверхности (гидрофобностью или гидрофильностью), а также плотностью разделяемых частиц. Использование жидкостей-носителей с низкой плотностью и вязкостью позволяет фракционировать частицы меньшего размера.As the carrier fluid, you can use water, aqueous salt solutions or organic solvents of various densities. The choice of carrier fluid is due to surface properties (hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity), as well as the density of the particles to be separated. The use of carrier fluids with a low density and viscosity allows fractionation of smaller particles.
The mixture of particles to be separated is then introduced into the separation channel in a rotating planetary centrifuge. Fractionation of mixtures of nano- and microparticles is carried out in the range of angular velocities of a planetary centrifuge of 100-3000 rpm. At a planetary centrifuge rotation speed of less than 100 rpm, fractionation of a mixture of nano- and microparticles is impossible due to the lack of centrifugal force field strength, which is one of the driving forces of the fractionation process. The upper limit of the rotation speed range of the planetary centrifuge is due to the technical limitations of the device.
Фракционирование происходит под действием асимметричного поля центробежных сил, создаваемого за счет планетарного вращения, в непрерывном потоке жидкости-носителя. Фракции в порядке увеличения размера частиц элюируют при ступенчатом увеличении скорости потока жидкости-носителя и постоянной скорости вращения центрифуги. Кроме того, фракционирование возможно и при постоянной скорости потока подвижной фазы, а также при изменении скорости вращения центрифуги ее в ходе процесса фракционирования.Fractionation occurs under the action of an asymmetric field of centrifugal forces created by planetary rotation in a continuous flow of carrier fluid. Fractions in the order of increasing particle size elute with a stepwise increase in the flow rate of the carrier fluid and a constant speed of rotation of the centrifuge. In addition, fractionation is possible at a constant flow rate of the mobile phase, as well as when changing the speed of rotation of the centrifuge during the fractionation process.
The size ranges of the separated fractions depend on the workers (centrifuge rotation speed, carrier fluid flow rate, carrier fluid flow direction) fractionation process parameters that are selected depending on the task. The use of low carrier fluid flow rates and high planetary centrifuge rotation speeds allows fractionation of particles in the nanoscale range. Fractionation of microparticles requires lower centrifuge rotation speeds and higher carrier fluid flow rates.
Нижеприведенные примеры конкретной реализации способа иллюстрируют разнообразие задач, решаемых заявляемым способом.The following examples of a specific implementation of the method illustrate the variety of tasks solved by the claimed method.

So, fractionation of a mixture of standard samples of silicon oxide particles of sizes 150, 390 and 900 nm was carried out with the separation of individual fractions of particles with a purity of up to 98%. The separation channel was mounted on the core of a planetary centrifuge having two symmetrical protrusions. Фракционирование проводили при скорости вращения планетарной центрифуги 800 об/мин, начальной скорости потока жидкости-носителя 0.2 мл/мин и последующем ступенчатом увеличении скорости потока жидкости-носителя (воды).Fractionation of a street dust sample was carried out with the separation of fractions of particles smaller than 0.3 μm, 0.3-1 μm, 1-10 μm and 10-100 μm. Fractionation was performed at a planetary centrifuge rotational speed of 800 rpm, an initial carrier fluid flow rate of 0.2 ml / min and a subsequent stepwise increase in the carrier fluid (water) flow rate.
На примере фракционирования образца вулканического пепла была показана возможность выделения фракции наночастиц. Так, при фракционировании образца пепла наряду с фракциями субмикро- и микрочастиц была выделена фракция частиц размером менее 50 нм. Фракционирование проводили при ступенчатом увеличении скорости подачи жидкости-носителя и скорости вращения центрифуги 800 об/мин.Using fractionation of a volcanic ash sample as an example, the possibility of isolating a fraction of nanoparticles was shown. So, when fractionating an ash sample, along with fractions of submicron and microparticles, a fraction of particles with a size of less than 50 nm was isolated. Fractionation was carried out with a stepwise increase in the feed rate of the carrier fluid and the rotation speed of the centrifuge 800 rpm.
Пример 4. Фракционирование образца хроматографического сорбентаExample 4. Fractionation of a sample of a chromatographic sorbent
95%.The polydisperse sample of the sorbent based on polystyrene-divinylbenzene was fractionated with the separation of the target fraction of particles with a size of 4.5 μm and the separation of particles smaller than 2 μm, particle fragments and sorbent synthesis residues. It was shown that the separation channel with a volume of 15 ml allows fractionation of 100 mg of sorbent in one cycle. Scaling of the fractionation process showed that a semi-preparative planetary centrifuge equipped with a separation channel of 453 ml allows fractioning 3 g of sorbent with a yield of the target sorbent fraction of more than 95%.
Пример 5. Фракционирование металлических частицExample 5. Fractionation of metal particles
The fundamental possibility of fractionation of metal microparticles was shown using silumin particles as an example (an alloy of aluminum and silicon). It has been demonstrated that fractionation of silumin microparticles with sizes from 1 to 40 μm can be realized both in the mode of stepwise increase in the feed rate of the carrier fluid and at a constant flow rate of the carrier fluid. As a result, it was shown that a planetary centrifuge equipped with a 20 ml separation channel allows efficient fractionation of 100 mg of a polydispersed sample of silumin particles with the isolation of a fraction containing at least 95% of target particles larger than 20 μm. The possibility of scaling the fractionation process in the dividing channels of a larger volume to solve preparatory problems is estimated.
Пример 6. Фракционирование наночастиц оксида кремнияExample 6. Fractionation of silicon oxide nanoparticles
На примере наночастиц оксида кремния была продемонстрирована возможность фракционирования наночастиц в диапазоне размером 10-100 нм. Фракционирование осуществляли при скорости вращения центрифуги 3000 об/мин и постоянной скорости потока жидкости-носителя 0.1 мл/мин.Using the example of silicon oxide nanoparticles, the possibility of fractionation of nanoparticles in the range of 10–100 nm was demonstrated. Fractionation was carried out at a centrifuge rotation speed of 3000 rpm and a constant carrier fluid flow rate of 0.1 ml / min.
The claimed method of fractionation of polydisperse mixtures of nano- and microparticles is an effective tool in solving research problems on the fractionation and analysis of natural polydisperse samples (such as soils, dust, ashes), applied tasks of environmental monitoring to study the migration of elements (including toxic) and assessment degree of anthropogenic pressure on the environment. The claimed method also allows you to fractionate polydisperse samples of new powder functional materials with the allocation of fine particle fractions of the required size for the subsequent study of their properties. In addition, the possibility of fractionation of relatively large quantities of mixtures of particles (at the level of grams or more) allows you to use the claimed method for solving preparative and technological problems.
