Abstract
Description
The invention relates to electrolytic methods for coating a carbon carrier from solutions of platinum group metals and can be used to produce platinum-carbon catalysts used in chemical current sources, in particular in low-temperature fuel cells.
The main characteristic in heterogeneous catalysis is the effective specific surface area of the catalyst, that is, the surface of the catalyst particles, on which electrochemical processes occur, referred to the weight deposited on the catalyst carrier. Currently obtained catalysts containing nanoparticles, the size of which lies in the range of 1-100 nm.
Most of the known methods for producing a catalyst with platinum nanoparticles on a carbon support are carried out by chemical methods consisting in the reduction of platinum compounds on a carbon support.
В первую очередь, это методы синтеза в жидкой фазе, наиболее распространенными из которых являются так называемые боргидридный (Ma Н-С., Effect of borohydride as reducing agent on the structures and electrochemical properties of Pt/C catalyst/ Ma H-C., Xue X-Z., Liao J-H. et al. // Appl. Surface Science. - 2006. - V. 252. - P. 8593-8597) [1], (RUS 2367520, МПК B01J 23/42, B01J 21/18, B82B 1/00, B01J 37/34, опубл. (Zhenhua Zhou, Preparation of highly active Pt/C cathode electrocatalysts for DMFCs by an improved aqueous impregnation method / Zhenhua Zhou, Suli Wang, Weijiang Zhou, Luhua Jiang, Guoxiong Wang, Gongquan Sun, Bing Zhou, Qin Xin // J.Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. - 2003. - №5. - 5485-5488) [3], (US 9343747, МПК H01M 6/00; H01M 4/88; H01M 4/92; H01M 8/10 опубл. 17.04.2014) [4], полиольный (Григорьев C.A. First of all, these are methods of synthesis in the liquid phase, the most common of which are the so-called borohydride (Ma H-C., Effect of borohydride as reducing agent on the structures and electrochemical properties of Pt / C catalyst / Ma HC., Xue XZ ., Liao JH. Et al. // Appl. These methods are at the junction of science and art of the experimenter, because even a slight change in one of the parameters or synthesis conditions can lead to a deterioration of the characteristics of the catalyst. At the same time, each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Chemical methods of synthesis in the liquid phase (in solutions) are quite simple and do not require expensive equipment. At the same time, they are laborious, are not always characterized by a high degree of reproducibility, and do not allow controlling the growth of nanoobjects. The introduction of a toxic organic phase into the solution negatively affects the characteristics of the obtained platinum-carbon catalysts due to the adsorption of organic molecules on the surface and in the pores of the carbon carrier and the subsequent effect on electrochemical reactions.
More promising, from the point of view of controlling the morphology of the catalyst surface and the purity of the resulting product, are electrochemical methods for producing nanoparticles.
- 2011. - Т. 15. - №1. - С. 310-314) [6].Electrochemical processes can be carried out in two-, three- or four-electrode cells using various modes: galvanostatic, potentiostatic, pulsed mode, alternating current mode, etc. To control the growth of metal nanoparticles, wide possibilities are presented by varying the potential and density of the transmitted current (Smirnova N.V. Electrochemical destruction of platinum - a new way of synthesizing nanoscale Pt / C catalysts for low-temperature fuel cells / Smirnova N.V., Kuriganova AB // Engineering Bulletin of the Don. - 2011. - T. 15. - No. 1. - S. 310-314) [6].
В. Осетрова, A.M. - 2003. - Т. 39. - №. 9. - С. 1027-1045) [7]. - 2015. - Т. 17. 3) [8]A known method of producing Me / C nanostructured composite materials by electrodeposition of metals on a fixed carrier (Bagotsky V.S., Fuel cells. Current status and basic scientific and technical problems / BC Bagotsky, N.V. Osetrova, AM Skundin // Journal of Electrochemistry. - 2003. - T. 39. - No. 9. - S. 1027-1045) [7]. After preliminary preparation using a Nafion polymer binder, a porous layer of a carbon carrier is fixed to the surface of a glass-graphite electrode. The carbon suspension is applied to the end of the glassy carbon electrode and, after drying, is coated with a small amount of Nafion solution in order to more firmly fix the layer on the end of the disk. Subsequent electrodeposition of platinum on a glass-graphite rotating disk cathode with a deposited layer of carbon powder is carried out in a three-electrode cell at room temperature. The electrolyte is a solution containing a mixture of 1 M H 2 SO 4 and 5 mm H 2 PtCl 6 . During the flow of electric current, platinum nanoparticles are formed on the carbon surface. It should be noted that platinum deposition proceeds non-uniformly - only on the surface of the carbon powder layer. No growth of nanoparticles is observed in the depth of the supported carrier layer, which is confirmed by data obtained by scanning electron microscopy (Belenov S.V. Influence of ethylene glycol additives on the morphological features of platinum electrolytic sediments / Belenov S.V., Gebretsadik V.Y., Guterman V.E. ., Skibina L.M., Lyanguzov N.V. // Journal of Condensed Matter and Interphase Boundaries - 2015. - V. 17. - No. 1 - p. 37-49 Fig. 3) [8]
To obtain platinum nanoparticles by these methods, the introduction of a toxic organic phase into the electrolyte and the heating inherent in chemical methods are not required.
The closest in technical essence to the claimed invention is a method for producing a catalyst with nanosized particles of platinum (RU 2424850 IPC6 B01J 37/34, B01J 23/42, B01J 32/00, B82B 1/00, published July 27, 2011) [12], accepted for the prototype.
Н., Михеикин A.L. - 2013. - Т. 54. - №2. - С. 265-272) [13].Platinum electrodes are immersed in an alkali metal hydroxide solution with a concentration of 2-6 mol / L and the electrodes are connected to an alternating current source with a frequency of 50 Hz. The average current per unit surface area of the electrodes is set in the range of 0.3-1.5 A / cm 2 . The known method allows to obtain platinum nanoparticles with a size of 5-80 nm without the use of toxic substances and heating to high temperatures. In this case, the electrochemically active surface area of platinum is not more than 30 m 2 / g (Smirnova N.V. Structural and electrocatalytic properties of Pt / C and Pt-Ni / C catalysts obtained by electrochemical dispersion / Smirnova N.V., Kuriganova A. B., Leontiev D.V., Leontiev I.N., Mikheikin AL // Kinetics and Catalysis. - 2013. - T. 54. - No. 2. - S. 265-272) [13].
The disadvantage of the prototype method is the inability to obtain platinum nanoparticles with a size of less than 5 nm and with an electrochemically active surface area of platinum of more than 30 m 2 / g (Pt). The first is due to the fact that when the platinum electrode is destroyed in an alkaline medium, grains (nanocrystals) or agglomerates of metal grains with a size of 5 or more nanometers are detached. Such a size of nanocrystals is determined by the structure of the initial platinum electrode and cannot be changed by changing the dispersion conditions of platinum. The second is due to the fact that the average diameter of metal nanoparticles obtained by this method is significantly higher than 5 nm, therefore, the electrochemically active area of the total surface of platinum is low.
The objective of the proposed method is to obtain a catalyst with platinum nanocrystals fixed on a carbon carrier with a size of less than 5 nm with a total electrochemically active surface area of platinum nanoparticles of more than 30 m 2 / g (Pt) with a uniform distribution of platinum nanoparticles on the surface of the carbon carrier.
These technical results are achieved by the fact that the method of producing a catalyst with nanosized particles of platinum consists in the electrodeposition of platinum in a two-electrode cell with a separated anode and cathode space, the anode of which is made of an inert material, on a carbon carrier dispersed in an aqueous solution of hexachloroplatinic acid with a concentration of 10-250 g / dm 3 , supported by periodically introducing portions of the concentrated solution into the electrolyte solution, and the background electrolyte in cat one space, under the influence of a constant electric current, referred to a unit surface area of the cathode and equal to 4-10 A / cm 2 , while stirring the carbon suspension in catholyte using a magnetic stirrer.
In special cases of execution:
- анод выполнен из графита;- the anode is made of graphite;
- анод выполнен из платины;- the anode is made of platinum;
3.- as the background electrolyte used an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid with a concentration of at least 192 g / DM 3 .
Unlike the prototype, platinum is deposited on a carbon carrier not due to the destruction of the metal, but due to the formation of new particles by reduction of platinum on the surface of the carbon carrier at the moment the carbon particles touch the metal cathode, which allows nanoparticles of smaller diameter and with a larger electrochemically active area surface than the prototype. The method is carried out without the use of organic solvents and elevated temperatures.

As a result of the electrochemical reaction, platinum in the form of nanoparticles is deposited on the surface of the carbon carrier. The effect of the claimed ranges of current density and concentration of hexachloroplatinic acid on the crystallite size and the electrochemically active surface area of platinum nanoparticles are confirmed experimentally and are shown in the table.
The amount of platinum deposited on a carbon carrier was determined by gravimetry. To do this, a weighed Pt / C of material of the order of 0.01 g was placed in a crucible calcined to a constant mass and kept for 40 minutes in a muffle furnace previously heated to a temperature of 800 ° C. The percentage of metal in the sample was determined by the fireproof residue of platinum.
111:To determine the composition of the sample and the presence of metal nanoparticles in it, an X-ray phase analysis was used. According to the obtained diffraction patterns (Fig. 2), the presence of platinum in the material and the average size (diameter) of its particles (crystallites) were determined. The average crystallite diameter was determined by the Scherrer formula, in which the value of the peak width at half the height of the maximum peak reflected by the metal face 111 was substituted:
D=Kλ/(FWHM cosθ),D = Kλ / (FWHM cosθ),
где λ - длина волны монохроматического излучения (в Å),where λ is the wavelength of monochromatic radiation (in Å),
FWHM - полуширина пика (в радианах),FWHM - peak half-width (in radians),
D is the average thickness of the "stack" of reflective planes in the region of coherent scattering,
θ - половина угла отражения;θ is half the angle of reflection;
K=0.89 - постоянная Шеррера.K = 0.89 - Scherrer constant.
The microstructure of the samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy with field emission (FE-SEM) using a Hitachi SU8000 electron microscope. The images were taken (Fig. 4) in the registration modes of secondary and reflected electrons at an accelerating voltage of 5 kV and a working distance of 9-10 mm. A comparison of the microstructure of the Pt / C samples of the material obtained by the method described in article [8] (Fig. 3) and the inventive method (Fig. 4) confirms the achievement of a uniform distribution of platinum on the surface of the carbon carrier.
During cyclic voltammetric studies, the AFCBP1 bipotentiostat (PAIN) was used. To standardize the platinum surface and completely remove impurities, 100 potential sweep cycles were performed at a speed of 200 mV / s in the potential range from 0 to 1 V (relative to the SHE). Further, according to the peak area of hydrogen adsorption and desorption (Fig. 5). we calculated the amount of electricity and evaluated the electrochemically active surface area of platinum, which implies that the amount of electricity spent on these processes is directly proportional to the electrochemically active surface area of platinum.
