Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technology for producing conductive and semiconductor structures of submicron sizes used in micro- and nanoelectronics.
The rapid development of science and technology currently requires the creation of ordered arrays of nanostructures with complex geometric shapes (disks, rings, rotors, etc.). In particular, the approach related to the use of magnetic nanorings as active elements of new generation information storage devices is quite promising. The magnetization of this kind of particles is closed in the plane of the ring, which minimizes the dipole-dipole interactions between adjacent structures, and, therefore, the stability of such a system to spontaneous magnetization reversal increases. On the other hand, the ring-shaped structures of noble metals (for example, gold) are promising for obtaining sensors of increased sensitivity to biological molecules, due to the phenomenon of surface plasma resonance.
Despite the large number of theoretical works confirming the presence of unusual functional properties in ring-shaped nanostructures (Segura & Sanchez, 2009; Zhang et al., 2008) (6, 8), as well as the prospects for using such particles, there are practically no experimental works on this topic . This is due to the extreme complexity of the process when obtaining structures of a ring-shaped shape of small size. All attempts to synthesize such particles are often reduced to lithography methods (Castano et al., 2003; Luo et al., 2008; Luo & Misra, 2008) (1, 4, 5), which are expensive and impose serious restrictions on the linear sizes of the resulting samples.
A feature of nanotechnology is the widespread use of self-organization and self-assembly processes, which can lead to the formation of the necessary ordered nanostructures in a complexly organized system. The use of self-organization processes for the synthesis of functional materials is one of the promising and therefore actively developing areas of modern technology. Due to the low cost, simplicity of the approaches used and the high quality of the resulting objects, this method is widely used to create spatially ordered nanostructures.
Thus, the development of new highly controlled methods for the formation of ordered arrays of nanorings using self-organization approaches is a priority for nanotechnology.
In2O3.A known method for producing In 2 O 3 nanorings on a silicon substrate by annealing a continuous In film in a controlled gas atmosphere containing Ar and O 2 (Hsin et al., 2010) (2). As a result of multistage annealing during the oxidation of indium, arrays of indium oxide nanorings are formed. However, the considered method is sensitive to the material and can only be used to form rings of In 2 O 3 .
A known method for producing an array of magnetic nanorings from cobalt and permalloy (Ni 80 Fe 20 ) by electron lithography (Castano et al., 2003) (1). The advantage of the method is the high quality of the structure and the perfectly ordered arrangement of nanoscale on the substrate. However, this technology is expensive, requiring a lot of time for the production of single samples. In addition, during the formation of small nanoparticles (less than 100 nm), edge effects, leading to a deterioration in the quality of the structure, begin to exert a serious effect.
A known method for producing an array of magnetic nanorings from cobalt using photolithography and ion etching techniques (Luo et al., 2008; Luo & Misra, 2008) (4, 5). The advantage of this technology is the ability to obtain rings from various materials. However, due to the fact that the shape and arrangement of nanorings are specified by a photomask, nanostructures with an external diameter of less than 100-200 nm cannot be obtained.
A known method for producing an array of magnetic nickel nanorings based on porous films of anodic alumina (Wang et al., 2005) (7). The formation of rings in this case occurs during the redistribution of the metal deposited on one side of the porous film during ion etching. The disadvantage of this method is the inability to control geometric anisotropy and the inner diameter of the rings.
The closest technical solution is the work (Larsson et al., 2007) (3), which used the method of producing gold nanorings with deposited polystyrene microspheres on a silicon substrate, then applying a metal layer by lithography and subsequent ion etching. The advantage of this technology is the ability to obtain rings from various metal materials. The main disadvantage of this method is the random arrangement of nanorings on the substrate, which is determined by the initial position of the microspheres, which does not allow predicting the location of the adjacent ring with respect to the selected ring during their use.
The objective of the present invention is to develop a simple and cost-effective, but at the same time reproducible and controlled method of forming ordered arrays of nanorings using self-organization approaches.
The task is implemented as follows. In the known method, first polystyrene microspheres are applied to the substrate, then a metal layer is deposited followed by ion etching. New in this method is that first a porous alumina film with a highly ordered structure is formed by the method of anodic oxidation of the metal (see
It should be noted that when using the above-described method of forming all the geometric dimensions of the rings can be controlled to vary within wide limits. The distance between the rings is determined by the distance between the pores in the oxide film (varies from 30 to 600 nm in a controlled manner). The inner diameter of the rings is equal to the pore diameter of the oxide film (controlled varies from 15 to 500 nm). The outer diameter of the rings is determined by the diameter of the microspheres, which can be practically any in the range from the pore diameter of the oxide matrix to the distance between adjacent pores.
The invention is illustrated graphic materials:
Figure 1 presents a phased diagram of the formation of ordered arrays of nanorings. 1) an oxide film with a highly ordered porous structure; 2) a porous substrate with microspheres deposited on its surface; 3) a porous substrate with microspheres deposited on its surface and a sprayed protective layer; 4) an oxide film with a protective layer after the selective removal of microspheres; 5) an oxide film with a protective layer after coating a layer of the required material from which nanorings are made; 6) an array of nanorings on the surface of the porous substrate after selective removal of the protective layer.
Figure 2 shows a typical micrograph of the surface of the oxide film after applying a layer of polymer microspheres (stage 2). It is clearly seen that when applying the microspheres it is possible to achieve the deposition of a polymer particle at each pore. In this case, particles between pores are practically absent.
Figure 3 shows the data of scanning electron microscopy, illustrating an array of gold nanorings, obtained according to the scheme depicted in figure 1. Spherical polystyrene particles and a protective layer of aluminum were used.
Thus, the proposed method for producing an array of nanorings is universal; it allows one to obtain nanostructures with geometric characteristics that vary over a wide range. Based only on self-organization approaches, the method is economically promising and can be implemented on industrial plants.
