Abstract
Description
Technical field
The invention relates to mechanical engineering, and in particular to a method of cooling a cryogenic line of a liquid propellant rocket engine with multiple engine starts.
State of the art
As is known, for reliable start-up of a pump pumping cryogenic liquid, it is necessary that the temperature of the pump structure at the time of its start be equal to the temperature of the pumped liquid or at least as close to it as possible.
A technique is known in the art for providing the required temperature state of the design of a cryogenic pump of a turbopump unit of a liquid propellant rocket engine before starting, using preliminary cooling. Cooling is carried out by ensuring the circulation of the cryogenic component through the pump and the connected lines until the pump design reaches the required temperature. In this case, the heated and / or vaporized component either returns to the stage tank, heating it, or is discharged into the external space through the drainage system and is irretrievably lost. Also, certain component losses are associated with the need for temperature control of the tank. Losses of a component are either taken into account in the tank refueling volume, or, for engines whose cooling is carried out on the ground, can be compensated from external ground sources (see the book “Design and Design of Liquid Rocket Engines.” Edited by G. G. Gakhun - M .: Engineering, 1989, p. 179, fig. 4.86). An analogue of the invention.
The disadvantage of this method is its limited applicability for engines of the upper stages and especially upper stages, designed to work with multiple inclusions in flight. Repeated cooling of cryogenic pumps of a turbopump unit will lead to increased component losses. In this case, losses at each start-up will depend on the difference between the temperature of the component and the temperature of the design of the turbopump at the time of engine start. The latter will depend, first of all, on the time interval between engine starts, which determines the degree of heating of the pump due to heat supply from the hot turbine.
Losses at the next start will be minimal if the interval between starts is short enough so that the temperature of the pump remains close to the temperature of the component. With increasing intervals between starts, the pump temperature will initially increase to a certain maximum value, and, accordingly, the losses will increase and a maximum will be reached at a certain pump temperature. Then, as the structure cools naturally, they will begin to decline again.
Thus, the component flow rate required for cooling the pump at each start-up will depend on the degree of warming up of the pump during the time elapsed since the previous start-up, and the total flow will be determined by the number of starts. Although the total losses, in the general case, will not be proportional to the number of repeated starts.
In addition, since due to the relatively small volume of the tanks and, accordingly, the small supply of components on board, the return of the evaporated component to the tank for subsequent condensation is limited by the amount of heat that can be absorbed in the tank without exceeding the permissible temperature, a significant part of the component used for Cooling will be thrown overboard.
In this case, the only way to compensate for the loss is to increase the fuel supply on board, which leads to an increase in the volume and mass of the tanks and the total mass of the stage or upper stage.
A technique is also known in the art for starting a liquid rocket engine without first cooling the turbopump assembly. In this case, cooling occurs immediately upon starting the turbopump unit during filling of the mains and internal cavities, and start-up is carried out if there is a certain fraction of the vapor phase in the component stream passing through the pump (see pr. V. Sherstyannikov “Engines ahead of time ( domestic rocket engines of the 60-80s of the XX century "). - M .: 2006, p.56-57, § 3.1.3). The specified description of the method is taken as a prototype of the invention.
This method also does not exclude the loss of a component that evaporates in the interval between the supply of the component to the pump and the output of the turbopump unit to the nominal mode. The magnitude of these losses depends on the degree of warming up of the pump during breaks between engine starts and the amount of time between the moment the component is fed into the pump cavity and the beginning of the working process in the gas generator and in the engine chamber, which is associated with a certain delay in starting the engine due to the appearance of a vapor phase in the liquid flow .
In addition, additional component losses occur during engine shutdown and are associated with post-start purging of engine cavities, which is necessary to prevent unauthorized interaction of components during repeated engine starts.
Disclosure of invention
The problem to which the invention is directed, is to increase the stability of the turbopump unit of a liquid propellant rocket engine in starting conditions and reduce unproductive losses of the cryogenic fuel component.
The problem is solved due to the fact that in the method of cooling the cryogenic line of a liquid rocket engine with multiple engine starts, based on the drainage of fuel components from the cryogenic line, which includes a pump with its inlet and outlet lines, which is connected on one side to the sub-valve and the other - with the entrance to the gas generator through the valve, while cooling the specified line is due to the evaporation of the cryogenic component of the fuel remaining in this line after stopping the engine, in which the line is cut off from the side of its inlet and outlet, and the drainage of the vapors of the cryogenic component is carried out from the pump cavity through a valve into a drainage line connected to the environment.
Other differences of the proposed method are:
- полость насоса соединяют с дренажной магистралью через клапан и дополнительные каналы или полости, выполненные в статоре турбины турбонасосного агрегата;- the pump cavity is connected to the drainage line through the valve and additional channels or cavities made in the stator of the turbine of the turbopump unit;
- после останова двигателя внутреннюю полость насоса соединяют с дренажной магистралью через последовательно соединенные клапан, каналы, выполненные в статоре турбины турбонасосного агрегата и в газоводе, расположенном за турбиной по газовому тракту.- after the engine is stopped, the internal cavity of the pump is connected to the drainage line through a series-connected valve, channels made in the stator of the turbine of the turbopump unit and in the gas duct located behind the turbine through the gas path.
The technical result consists in increasing the time to maintain the temperature of the pump at a level close to the temperature of the component, and by reducing the total heat supply in the engine design and significantly reducing both the rate of heating of the pump after evaporation of the component and the maximum level of this heating. This improves the conditions for restarting the engine, as well as significantly reduced unproductive losses of the component.
Since maintaining a low temperature of the pump will be ineffective while maintaining a high temperature of the turbine, especially during long intervals between engine starts, despite the fact that the cooling of the pump simultaneously results in partial cooling of the turbine due to the thermal conductivity of the joint, it is desirable to provide for its additional cooling. Such cooling can be accomplished by passing the cold vapors of the vaporized component through channels and / or cavities specially made in the turbine stator. In this case, the connection to the drainage line is through these channels, which on the one hand are connected through the valve to the internal cavity of the pump, and on the other hand, to the drainage line of the engine. These channels, if necessary, can also cover other hot nodes located along the path behind the turbine (for example, a gas duct), providing their cooling and reducing the total amount of heat stored in the structure during engine operation.
The choice of one of the options or their combination in one design will require a special analysis of the design in relation to the specific conditions and operating modes of not only the engine, but also the apparatus on which it is installed.
Naturally, in this way only a component can be used that can evaporate without the formation of a precipitate, primarily cryogenic, and with minimal corrosion activity.
Considering that the components remaining after the engine is stopped in the internal cavities of the pumps, during normal operation of the engine, they are irretrievably lost during interstarting purges, which are performed to reduce the after-effect pulse and to prevent abnormal interaction of the components when the engine is turned on again, the proposed method, in addition to improving the conditions for starting the turbopump unit, also reduces unproductive losses of fuel components.
