Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of analytical chemistry of platinum metals, in particular to separation and concentration methods, and can be used in the separation of platinum and rhodium in aqueous hydrochloric acid freshly prepared and aged solutions by the sorption method using a strongly basic anion exchange resin.
Currently, a known method of purification of rhodium and iridium from platinum and palladium [RF patent No. 2156819, C22 B11 / 00, C22B 3/34, C22B 3/38, publ. July 27, 2000], including the extraction of platinum and palladium with a sulfoxide solution (phase ratio 1: (2-5)), and the subsequent separation of the remaining in the aqueous phase of rhodium and iridium by extraction with phosphoric acid tributyl ether.
The disadvantages of this method include the need for the content of platinum in the solution 20-70 times less than rhodium, and the lack of a description of the preparation of platinum metals in pure form, as well as the use of environmentally hazardous sulfoxide reagent.
The closest technical solution, selected as a prototype, is a method for the separation of platinum and rhodium in hydrochloric acid solutions [RF patent No. 2165992, C22B 11/00, C22B 3/24, publ. April 27, 2001], including their extraction from solutions by sorption on strongly basic anion exchange resin, subsequent washing of the sorbent and its burning to obtain metallic platinum and pure rhodium compounds.
The disadvantages of this method are the use of only freshly prepared solutions; the inability to reuse ion exchangers due to burning; conducting deposition; as well as the burning of ion exchangers at 950-1000 ° C for the desorption of precious metals and thermal destruction at 350-400 ° C. Another significant disadvantage of this method - this method is environmentally hazardous.
The technical result of the invention is the simplification and cheapening of the method for the separation of platinum and rhodium, and the possibility of its implementation not only in freshly prepared, but also in aged hydrochloric acid solutions.
The technical result is achieved by the fact that in the method for the separation of platinum (II, IV) and rhodium (III) in hydrochloric acid aqueous solutions, including sorption of platinum (II, IV) and rhodium (III) by contacting the solution with strongly basic anion exchange resin and subsequent desorption from anion exchange resin, new is that sorption is carried out from freshly prepared and aged solutions on Purolite A-500 anion exchange resin containing a quaternary ammonium base as a functional group, and their desorption from anion exchange resin is carried out in two stages: in the first, 24 hours after contact with a 2 M solution thief NH 4 SCN, or a 2 M solution of KNO 3 for recovery of platinum, and the second stage - even after 24 hours 2 M HCl or 1 M solution of thiourea in a solution of 2M H 2 SO 4 for extraction of rhodium.
H2SO4.In the inventive method, at the first stage, platinum metals are extracted in the form of Pt (II, IV) and Rh (III) complexes on the strongly basic Purolite A-500 anion exchange resin containing a quaternary ammonium base with a high exchange capacity of rhodium and platinum as a functional group. Next, desorption of metals from anion exchange resin is carried out, which is carried out with solutions of 2 M NH 4 SCN or 2 M KNO 3 , and then 2 M Hcl or 1 M thiourea in 2 M H 2 SO 4 .
The invention is illustrated by the drawing, which shows the absorption spectra of hydrochloric acid solutions of platinum (II, IV) and rhodium (III) with the joint presence at different aging times (1 - freshly prepared solution, 2 - aged for 3 months).
The essence of the method lies in the fact that the separation of rhodium and platinum is carried out from hydrochloric acid, not only freshly prepared, but also aged for three months, solutions that are close to technological. The extraction conditions are such that the metals are in solution in the form of Pt (II, IV) and Rh (III) complexes, which is established from the electronic absorption spectra shown in the drawing. The absorption maxima of the freshly prepared solution (1) correspond to the predominant presence in the solution of the complex of [PtCl 4 ] 2- and cis and trans complexes [Rh (H 2 O) 4 Cl 2 ] + and [Rh (H 2 O) 2 Cl 4 ] - ( at 218 nm) and hexachlorocomplexes of platinum and rhodium (at 251 nm). When the solution is kept for up to three months, both absorption maxima gradually shift to 198 and 261 nm, respectively, with a decrease in intensity, which indicates the formation of [Pt (OH) Cl 5 ] 2- , [PtCl 6 ] 2- (at 261 nm) complexes in solutions , [Pt (OH) 6 ] 2- and [Rh (H 2 O) 3 Cl 3 ] 0 (at 198 nm). The sorption characteristics of the ion exchanger, depending on the acidity of the solution, slightly increase with a decrease in the concentration of hydrochloric acid (Table 1). For the desorption of platinum and rhodium, cheap reagents are used, which are necessary in small quantities for the implementation of the process (Table 2). When the solutions are kept for three months, the sorption parameters deteriorate somewhat (Table 3), but remain at a high level, which is of great importance for industry.
Signs that distinguish the claimed method from the prototype are not identified in other technical solutions in the study of this and related fields of chemistry and, therefore, provide the claimed solution with the criterion of "inventive step".
The inventive method is as follows.
The pre-swollen Purolite A-500 anion exchanger in a chloride form weighing 0.1 g is brought into contact with stirring with a solution of the following composition: HCl (C HCl ) concentrations of 0.001-4 mol / L, platinum (II, IV) concentration 2.5 · 10 -4 mol / L (49 mg / L), rhodium (III) 2.5 · 10 -4 mol / L (26 mg / L). Desorption from anion exchange resin is carried out in two stages. After 24 hours, the anion exchange resin is separated from the solution by filtration and 10 ml of a 2 M solution of NH 4 SCN or 2 M solution of KNO 3 are added to it to extract platinum. Then after 24 hours the solution is separated from the anion exchange resin and added to the last 10 ml of a 2 M solution of Hcl or 1 M solution of thiourea in 2 M H 2 SO 4 to extract rhodium. After separate desorption, platinum and rhodium can be used for further work (for example, by calcining solutions of Pt and Rh complexes, they can be obtained in the form of metals). After regeneration, anion exchange resin can be used for repeated sorption in the described method. The characteristics of the proposed method are presented in tables 1-3, where C is the concentration of platinum, rhodium and hydrochloric acid in contacting solutions, D is the distribution coefficient of Pt or Rh, R is the percentage of extraction of platinum metals.
