More specifically, the present invention relates to a high-strength, high-viscosity Al-Zn alloy designated as the AA7000 series of the international Aluminum Association nomenclature for use in aircraft structures. Even more specifically, the present invention relates to a new range of the chemical composition of an Al-Zn alloy characterized by improved combinations of strength and toughness while maintaining good corrosion resistance, which does not require special aging or tempering treatments.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is known in the art to use heat-treatable aluminum alloys in a number of applications requiring relatively high strength, high viscosity and corrosion resistance, such as aircraft fuselages, vehicle parts, and other applications. AA7050 and AA7150 aluminum alloys exhibit high strength in T6 type states. Products from the precipitation hardened alloys AA7x75, AA7x55 also exhibit high levels of strength in the T6 state. It is known that the T6 state improves the strength of the alloy, while products from the above-mentioned alloys AA7x50, AA7x75 and AA7x55, containing large amounts of zinc, copper and magnesium, are known for their high specific strength and therefore find application, in particular, in the aerospace industry. However, in such applications, alloys are exposed to a wide variety of climatic conditions, which requires careful monitoring of the conditions of their deformation processing and aging to ensure adequate strength and resistance to corrosion, including both stress corrosion and delamination.
It is known that to enhance resistance to stress corrosion and delamination, as well as fracture toughness, such AA7000 series alloys are subjected to artificial overcooking. During artificial aging to states of the T79, T76, T74 or T73 type, their resistance to stress corrosion, corrosion delamination and fracture toughness improve in this order (the T73 type is the best, and the T79 state is close to T6), but due to the strength compared with a state of T6. A more acceptable condition is a state of type T74, which is a state after limited overcooking between T73 and T76 to obtain an acceptable level of tensile strength, resistance to stress corrosion, resistance to corrosion delamination and fracture toughness. This state of T74 is obtained by overcooking an aluminum alloy product at a temperature of 121 ° C for 6 to 24 hours, and then at a temperature of 171 ° C for about 14 hours.
7000.Depending on the design criteria of a particular structural element of an airborne aircraft, even small improvements in strength, toughness and corrosion resistance lead to weight loss, which affects, among other things, fuel economy throughout the life of this airborne aircraft. To meet these requirements, several other 7000 series alloys have been developed.
For example, in each of the patents EP-0377779, US-5221377 and US-5496426 disclosed alloy products and an improved method for the manufacture of alloy 7055 for the production of sheets or thin plates intended for applications in the aerospace field, such as parts of the upper part of the wing, with high viscosity and good corrosion properties, including the stage of deformation processing of the workpiece with a composition consisting of, in wt.%, from 7.6 to 8.4 Zn, from 2.2 to 2.6 Cu, from 1.8 to 2, 1 or 2.2 Mg and one or more elements selected from Zr, Mn, V and Hf, wherein the total amount of such elements does not exceed 0.6 wt.%, and the rest is aluminum plus unavoidable impurities, heat treatment for solid solution and quenching of the product and artificial aging of the product by either heating it three times in a row to one or more temperatures from 79 ° C to 163 ° C, or heating such a product initially to one or more temperatures from the range of 79 ° C to 141 ° C for two hours or more, and then heating it to one or more temperatures from the range of 148 ° C to 174 ° C. It is reported that such products have increased resistance to corrosion exfoliation of class “EB” or even better at about 15% higher yield strength than similar products of similar sizes from 7 × 50 alloys in T76 state. In addition, they have at least about 5% higher strength than similar products of similar sizes from alloys 7 × 50-T77 (7150-T77 will be used in this description as a comparative alloy).
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The aim of the present invention is to develop an improved Al-Zn alloy, preferably intended for the manufacture of products in the form of plates with high strength (compression) and high viscosity. In this case, corrosion resistance should not be impaired.
77.More specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide an alloy product that can be used for aerospace applications at the top of a wing, with an increased compressive strength and high specific crack propagation energy with properties superior to those of a traditional AA7055 alloy in T77 state.
73.Another objective of the invention is to obtain an aluminum alloy of the AA7000 series, exhibiting strength in the range typical for T6 states, and the properties of viscosity and corrosion resistance in the range typical for T73 states.
The next objective of the invention is to develop a method of manufacturing a product from an aluminum alloy according to this invention.
In the present invention, one or more of the aforementioned objects are achieved by the features of the independent claims. Further preferred embodiments are described and specified in the dependent claims.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
In the further part of the description, unless otherwise indicated, all alloy designations and state designations refer to designations adopted by the Aluminum Association to designate aluminum standards and data and records published by the Aluminum Association of the United States.
Одна или более из вышеупомянутых целей изобретения достигаются при использовании продукта из Al-Zn сплава с улучшенным сочетанием высокой вязкости и высокой прочности при сохранении хорошей коррозионной стойкости, содержащего, а предпочтительно состоящего из (в массовых процентах): One or more of the above objects of the invention are achieved by using an Al-Zn alloy product with an improved combination of high viscosity and high strength while maintaining good corrosion resistance, comprising, and preferably consisting of (in mass percent):
необязательно Sc и/или Се от 0,05 до 0,25, и,optionally Sc and / or Ce from 0.05 to 0.25, and,
0,12,optionally Mn from 0.05 to 0.12,
и неизбежные примеси, а остальное - алюминий, прочие элементы предпочтительно составляют менее 0,05 каждый и менее 0,50 в целом, и при этом продукт из сплава имеет по существу полностью неперекристаллизованную микроструктуру в положении Т/10 готового продукта.and unavoidable impurities, and the rest is aluminum, other elements are preferably less than 0.05 each and less than 0.50 in total, while the alloy product has a substantially completely unrecrystallized microstructure at the T / 10 position of the finished product.
This range of chemical composition of the AA7000 series alloy provides excellent properties when it comes to producing products in the form of relatively thin plates, and it is preferably used in the aviation industry for the manufacture of parts of the upper wing with a thickness in the range from 20 mm to 60 mm.
The above chemical composition provides properties comparable to or superior to the existing alloys of the AA7x50 or AA7x55 series in the T77 state without carrying out the cumbersome and complex three-stage aging cycles described above to T77. Such a chemical composition provides a more economical, as well as easier to manufacture aluminum product, since less processing steps are required. In addition, this chemical composition allows the use of new production technologies, such as molding with aging or molding with aging under creep conditions, not applicable when using the alloy in the T77 state. Moreover, the above chemical composition can also be aged to a T77 state in which corrosion resistance is further improved.
According to the invention, it was found that a selected number of elements, including a larger amount of Zn and a specific combination of certain amounts of Mg and Cu, provide substantially better combinations of strength and toughness and preservation of good corrosion resistance characteristics, such as resistance to corrosion delamination and resistance to corrosion cracking under voltage.
In the present invention, the chemical composition is also used in conjunction with the method for manufacturing a rolled product from an alloy of such a chemical composition discussed here below to obtain a substantially completely non-recrystallized microstructure at least at the T / 10 position of the finished product. More preferably, the product is uncrystallized throughout its thickness. By the term “non-recrystallized” the authors mean that more than 80%, preferably more than 90%, the thicknesses of the finished rolled product are substantially non-recrystallized. Therefore, the present invention discloses an alloy product that is particularly suitable for the manufacture of the skin of an upper wing of an aircraft and has a thickness in the range of 20 to 60 mm, preferably 30 to 50 mm.
It has been found that there is no need for a slow hardening of the rolled product or an increase in the thickness of the rolled product in order to obtain excellent compressive yield strength and viscosity properties.
74.Copper and magnesium are important elements to increase the strength of the alloy. Too low amounts of magnesium and copper lead to a decrease in strength, while too high amounts of magnesium and copper lead to lower corrosion characteristics and problems with weldability of the obtained alloy product. The prior art methods have used special aging methods to improve strength, while small amounts of magnesium and copper are used to achieve high corrosion characteristics. In order to achieve a compromise in strength, viscosity and corrosion characteristics, it was found that the content of copper and magnesium (in wt.%), Comprising between 1.7 and 2.2%, preferably between 1.7 and 2.1% for Mg, and between 1.8 and 2.1% for Cu, give a good balance in the production of thin plates. In the entire claimed range of chemical composition according to the present invention, it is now possible to achieve strength levels in the range characteristic of alloy T6, while maintaining corrosion resistance characteristics close to those of alloys in T74.
In addition to the amounts of magnesium and copper, the invention discloses a balanced ratio of the amounts of magnesium and copper to zinc, especially the ratio of magnesium to zinc, which gives the alloy the mentioned performance characteristics. The improved corrosion resistance of the alloy according to this invention corresponds to the delamination resistance (“EXCO”) of class EB or better, preferably class EA or better.
The zinc content (in wt.%) Is preferably in the range from 7.4 to 9.6%, more preferably in the range from 8.0 to 9.6%, most preferably in the range from 8.4 to 8.9 % Tests have shown that the optimal level of zinc is approximately 8.6%. Further details are given in the examples described below with great details.
Mn.It has also been shown that, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the Sc-containing alloy is also an excellent candidate for high strength with respect to high levels of static viscosity. By adding Sc to the alloy containing copper, magnesium, zinc, zirconium and titanium, it was found that the microstructure remains unrecrystallized, thereby demonstrating excellent strength and toughness properties. Therefore, preferred amounts of Sc (in wt.%) Are in the range of [Zr] +1.5 [Sc] <0.15%. Preferred amounts (in wt.%) Of Sc or Ce are in the range from 0.03 to 0.06%, when the amount of Zn is about 8.70%, and Mg and Cu are about 2.10%. The specific crack propagation energy (UPE) levels are very good for alloys with additional alloying elements Sc, Ce or Mn.
A preferred method for manufacturing a product from the high strength, high viscosity Al-Zn alloy with good corrosion resistance according to the present invention includes the following steps:
а. отливка слитка со следующим составом (в массовых процентах): but. casting of an ingot with the following composition (in mass percent):
необязательно Sc и/или Се от 0,05 до 0,25, иoptionally Sc and / or Ce from 0.05 to 0.25, and
0,12,optionally Mn from 0.05 to 0.12,
и неизбежные примеси, а остальное - алюминий, прочие элементы предпочтительно составляют менее 0,05 каждый и менее 0,50 в целом;and unavoidable impurities, and the rest is aluminum; other elements are preferably less than 0.05 each and less than 0.50 in total;
b. гомогенизация и/или предварительный нагрев слитка после отливки;b. homogenization and / or preheating of the ingot after casting;
с. горячая деформационная обработка слитка с получением предварительно обработанного продукта;from. hot deformation processing of the ingot to obtain a pre-processed product;
d. подогрев предварительно обработанного продукта и либоd. heating the pre-processed product and either
d1. горячая прокатка подогретого продукта до конечной толщины, либоd1. hot rolling of the heated product to the final thickness, or
d2. горячая прокатка и холодная прокатка подогретого продукта до конечной толщины;d2. hot rolling and cold rolling of the heated product to the final thickness;
е. термообработка на твердый раствор и закалка подвергнутого термообработке на твердый раствор продукта;e. heat treatment for solid solution and quenching of heat-treated solid solution product;
f. необязательное растяжение или сжатие закаленного продукта из сплава или какая-либо иная холодная деформационная обработка для снятия напряжений; иf. optional stretching or compression of the hardened alloy product or any other cold deformation processing to relieve stresses; and
g. необязательное старение закаленного и необязательно подвергнутого растяжению или сжатию продукта до достижения желаемого состояния, при этом продукт из сплава имеет по существу полностью неперекристаллизованную микроструктуру в положении Т/10 готового продукта.g. optional aging of the quenched and optionally stretched or compressed product to the desired state, wherein the alloy product has a substantially completely non-recrystallized microstructure at the T / 10 position of the finished product.
It was found that the microstructure in the obtained alloy remains essentially completely unrecrystallized under its surface using the stages of the method of the preliminary deformation processing of the product and hot and / or cold rolling of the pre-processed product proposed in the invention.
In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, this method includes first hot rolling an ingot that has been homogenized to obtain a pre-processed product, hot rolling a heated product to about 150-200 (in% of final thickness), and then cold rolling hot-rolled product to a final thickness, or hot rolling of a heated product to about 105-140 (in% of the final thickness), and then cold rolling of the hot-rolled product to a final thickness. The term "in% of the final thickness" means the percentage of thickness compared to the thickness of the final product. A value of 200% of the final thickness means a thickness twice the thickness of the processed to the end of the product. This means that it was established that first hot rolling of the preheated product to a thickness of approximately twice the thickness of the final product, and then cold rolling of the hot rolled product to the final thickness, or hot rolling of the preheated product to a thickness of about 20% more than the thickness of the final product and then cold rolling this product, resulting in an additional approximately 20% reduction in the thickness of the hot-rolled product.
(SCC).According to another embodiment of the present invention, it is advisable to subject the heated product to hot rolling at low temperatures in the range from 300 ° C to 420 ° C so that the alloy does not recrystallize.
1. On a laboratory scale, 14 different aluminum alloys were cast into ingots, homogenized, preheated for more than 6 hours at a temperature of about 410 ° C and hot rolled to 4 mm plates. Solid solution heat treatment was carried out at 475 ° C, and after that, water quenching. After that, the hardened product was aged using a two-stage aging process to T76 state. Chemical compositions are presented in table 1.
5):The alloys from table 1 were processed using three processing options (see step 5):
1. Homogenization was carried out by heating at a rate of temperature increase of 40 ° C / h to a temperature of 460 ° C, then holding for 12 hours at 460 ° C and another increase at a speed of 25 ° C / h to a temperature of 475 ° C with another holding for 24 hours at 475 ° C and cooling in air to room temperature.
2. Preheating was carried out at 420 ° C for 6 hours with a heating rate of 40 ° C / h.
3. The ingots obtained in the laboratory were hot rolled from 80 to 25 mm, while reducing the thickness by about 6-8 mm per pass.
4. The resulting boards with a thickness of 25 mm were heated to 420 ° C for about 30 minutes.
5. Option 1: the hot plate was hot rolled to 4.0 mm.
Option 2: the hot plate was hot rolled to 8.0 mm, and then cold rolled to 4.0 mm.
Option 3: the hot plate was hot rolled to 4.0 mm, and then cold rolled to 4.0 mm.
6. Heat treatment for solid solution was carried out for an hour at 475 ° C, after which it was quenched with water.
7. Stretching was carried out at a value of from 1.5 to 2.0% for about 1 hour after quenching.
8. After this, the stretched products were aged in accordance with the aging procedure to the state of T76, while raising the temperature to 120 ° C at a rate of 30 ° C / h and maintaining this temperature at 120 ° C for 5 hours, raising the temperature at a speed of 15 ° C / h to a level of 160 ° C, keeping for 6 hours and cooling the aged product in air to room temperature.
Strength was measured using a small sample according to the European standard (Euronorm), and viscosity was measured in accordance with ASTM B-871 (1996). The results for the three options described above are presented in tables 2A-2C.
From the results presented in tables 2A-2C, it is obvious that a small degree (10 to 20%) of cold rolling is favorable for an optimal balance of viscosity and strength. Only hot rolled material in accordance with option 1 (table 2a) is close to optimal, but in general, the alloys of option 3 are better.
In addition, it can be seen that the Sc-containing alloy 14 is advantageous when high strength with high statistical viscosity is required. Small amounts of manganese increase strength, but at the expense of some viscosity.
76. Alloys with additional chemical compositions were treated in accordance with the above-described processing steps 1-8, using option 3 of step 5 of Example 1 above and aging to T76 state.
The properties of the alloys shown in table 3 were tested in the L-direction in determining density and in the direction of L-T in determining viscosity.
Viscosity with respect to tensile strength (R p ), presented in table 4, clearly show that the best value of viscosity with respect to tensile strength is obtained for alloys containing about 8.6-8.7 wt.% Zinc. Alloys with lower levels of zinc will exhibit similar viscosity values, however, tensile strength is generally lower, while higher levels of zinc lead to higher levels of strength, but lower levels of viscosity. Small amounts of manganese do increase strength due to viscosity.
1. Further tests were carried out with zinc levels of 8.6 and 8.7, while varying the levels of copper and magnesium. It can be seen that viscosity levels can be increased at the same strength levels. Some additional alloys were treated in the same way as the alloys in example 2, using the above-described processing steps 1-8 and option 3 of stage 5 of example 1.
2,1%.As shown in table 6, it is preferable to have magnesium levels of less than 2.4% with an optimal content of about 1.7%. When magnesium levels are approximately 1.7%, excellent viscosity properties are obtained, but strength levels are reduced. At magnesium levels of approximately 2.1%, the highest levels of strength are obtained. Therefore, it is best to have a magnesium content between 1.7 and 2.1%.
All of the above alloys were tested for corrosion delamination according to ASTM G-34. All of them demonstrated a characteristic of class EB or better.
Moreover, it was shown that the addition of Ce or Sc improves the microstructure of the alloy, thereby reducing the level of regeneration processes. Since the regeneration in the alloy material is low, recrystallization almost does not occur even despite the use of heat treatment for solid solution in accordance with the standard technological route. Sc suppresses recrystallization, so that usually more than 90% of the thickness of thin plates remain unrecrystallized.
After studying the above description, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that numerous changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention described herein.
