Foamed graphite can be used for the disposal of toxic waste and the destruction of chemical warfare agents; for high-quality purification of drinking water; for localization and extinguishing fires of toxic and combustible liquids on land and water surface; for the elimination of emergency spills of oil and oil products on land and on the water surface, and appropriate soil remediation; to create medicines; for the manufacture of conductive materials; for removal from tobacco smoke of polyaromatic hydrocarbons, which are the strongest carcinogens; for water retention in sandy and solonetzic soils; for thermal and anticorrosive protection of heating mains and boiler equipment; for wastewater treatment; for the manufacture of graphite flange seals used in the sealing of valves, pipelines, heat exchangers, compressors and other technological equipment.
- М., 1997, 345 -347).Known methods for producing foamed graphite by wetting it with oxidizing agents (hydrogen peroxide, potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate or halogen-oxygen compounds of the formula MXOn) in combination with or without sulfuric or nitric acid, and then the resulting mass is quickly heated from 200 to 600-1000 ° C (thermal shock). As a result of the thermally expanding process of graphite oxidation, its multiple increase in volume occurs (from 100 to 1000 times) (AS Fialkov Carbon. Interlayer compounds and compositions based on it. - M., 1997, 345 -347).

31/04.A review of foreign patent literature showed similar techniques for producing expanded graphite. Only in Ukraine 76 patents of class С01В 31/04 are registered.
A disadvantage of the known compositions is that they contain strong acids - sulfuric or nitric (sometimes phosphoric), which when heated (600-2000 ° C) decompose and form aggressive oxides (SO 3 , NO 2 ), the latter actively destroy (corrode) the equipment stainless steel in which foaming of graphite occurs. When using perchloric acid or its salts, the decomposition and foaming temperature of graphite decreases to 200-400 ° C, but the products of their decomposition (Hcl, Cl 2 , O 2 ) are also very aggressive towards metals and are adsorbed on the surface of graphite, which requires their neutralization and removal by washing. If potassium, sodium, calcium, manganese or chromium salts are used as oxidizing agents, then when they are heated, their decomposition products remain in the composition of foamed graphite, and a special washing operation is required to remove them. The chromium oxide obtained by the decomposition of potassium dichromate and manganese dioxide by the decomposition of potassium permanganate are practically insoluble and contaminate the product.
In accordance with Russian patents 1781984, 2206501, 2057065, the oxidation of graphite is carried out using hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sulfuric acid, as well as additives of sulfuric or chromic anhydrides. Excess sulfuric acid is removed by neutralization with alkalis, followed by washing. According to patent 2186728 hydrogen peroxide or other strong oxidizing agents (KMnO 4 , KCrO 4 ) are also used in the presence of acids (nitric, formic, acetic, oxalic or perchloric). According to US patent 4895713, a solution is used for the intercalation of graphite, which contains from 50 to 92% sulfuric acid, from 8 to 50% nitric acid, 5% phosphoric acid, the process is carried out at a temperature of from 100 to 150 ° C in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.
For the preparation of acetyl hydroperoxide (peracetic acid) in the proposed application, acetic anhydride is used in the presence of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, as an analogue, we select patent 2057065. The essence of the invention which consists in the fact that hydrogen peroxide under a pressure of up to 1 MPa is introduced under a layer of H 2 SO 4 in a ratio of 1: (6-20) parts by weight accordingly, intensively mix and continuously cool while sparging air until a homogeneous mass is formed. Graphite is introduced during air sparging in the ratio 1: (2-3) parts by weight to H 2 SO 4 . Stand for 10-20 minutes, served for filtration and washed with water. Oxidized graphite is homogeneous, provides expanded graphite with a low bulk density.
The disadvantages of the analogue include sulfuric acid molecules remaining between the layers of graphite, which, when the graphite is calcined during foaming, evaporates, decomposes to active and aggressive products with respect to the metal surface of the equipment, causing metal corrosion on it.
In accordance with the procedure for producing acetyl hydroperoxide (peracetic acid), it is distilled off under vacuum from the reaction mixture, where sulfuric acid remains, and its decomposition products (carbon dioxide and acetic acid) have a low corrosivity.
- М., 1972).The technical result to which the present invention is directed is to use organic peroxides as oxidizing agents, which decompose when heated with oxygen evolution and their residues burn out in the form of carbon dioxide or are carbonized, i.e. turn into carbon (Havkins E. Organic peroxides, their production and reactions, 1964; Antonovsky VL Organic peroxide initiators. - M., 1972).
ч.):The specified technical result is achieved in that the foaming composition includes the treatment of graphite with an oxidizing agent with an additive in the following ratio of components (parts by weight):
Pure acetyl hydroperoxide or its mixture with isopropylbenzene peroxide or benzoyl peroxide or acetyl peroxide is used as organic peroxides.
As additives that accelerate the decomposition of peroxides, dimethylaniline or ethanedioic acid are used.
Pure foamed graphite after compaction (pressed tablet) is practically not wetted by water and has a contact angle of about 90 °, therefore, to use it as a filter for water, at the stage of preparing the foaming composition, decomposition products of silicic acid - silica gel or aerosil are introduced into it. The introduction of Aerosil already in the finished foamed graphite is difficult, due to the difficulty of mixing fluffy powders, so it is introduced at the stage of preparing the composition with graphite.
The mixture of ingredients for foaming graphite is prepared by shockless mixing (peroxides are explosive upon impact), holding at room temperature for 1-4 hours, the mixture is laid out in a thin layer on a metal tray, which is placed on a burning gas burner or muffle furnace at 600-800 ° С . At this temperature, the mixture ignites and foaming of graphite occurs. The end of the process can be judged by the cessation of smoke. At temperatures of 200-250 ° C in a thermostat, peroxides decompose without flash and tanning, while graphite practically does not foam.
