Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of manufacture of wooden blanks and substitutes for natural wood used for the manufacture of plucked and stringed musical instruments decks (upper and lower decks of the violin, viola, guitar, etc.), as well as pianos and grand pianos to improve acoustic properties of wooden blanks and expanding their assortment.
It is known that the best wood for acoustic resonators of musical instruments is spruce wood (resonant spruce). As a rule, this is selected spruce wood, which has special properties both in appearance and in its physical and mechanical properties. The amount of such wood is currently limited in the world, and its reserves are gradually decreasing. Attempts to use other types of wood, except for some exceptions in the form of fir, cedar and pine, for the manufacture of musical instrument decks do not give positive results. Therefore, the creation of new material for musical instruments is currently relevant for all manufacturers of musical instruments.
It is well known that in order to obtain high acoustic characteristics of a material in a wide frequency range, it is necessary that the ratio of the elastic modulus of the material to its density be as high as possible. This regularity is the basis for the development of structural composite material for musical instrument resonators decks, which consists of very thin graphite filaments with an elastic modulus of 1.8 · 10 11 Pa and a density of less than 2 g / cm 3 , interconnected by a polymeric material with a density of 0.15 ÷ 1 g / cm 3 (US patent No. 4364990). However, such material, for all its high rates, is quite expensive and does not provide equivalent resonant characteristics in the entire frequency range of audible sounds of classical high-quality musical instruments.
A similar problem is solved by a composite material of a layered type for the manufacture of decks, which contains as a middle layer a sheet of steel with a thickness of 0.5 ÷ 1.5 mm and the outer layers of wooden or plastic veneer with a ratio of thickness with a middle layer of 1: 3 to 1: 6 (US patent No. 4337682). However, for such a material, the resonant characteristics in the entire frequency range do not coincide with the characteristics of the resonant spruce. Musical instruments made using this technology did not have a rich richness of sound like classical musical instruments.
There are known cases of the use of corrugated aluminum, polyester, epoxy and phenolic resins with a filler in the form of wood shavings, cotton, shredded hemp, porous polymeric materials - polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, polyvinyl chloride, structural materials from thin layers of wood, wood-fiber materials, birch plywood and etc.
The results of these studies for acoustic, technological or economic reasons are not yet applied. The only exceptions are the bottom plywood decks of cellos, guitars and double basses, which are made from birch plywood.
A layered material with an acoustically active layer containing material based on a dry burdock stem (patent RU No. 2004129374) is rather complicated in the manufacturing process for industrial use.
Материал для дек музыкальных инструментов, в процессе изготовления которого деревянные дощечки подвергаются нагреву с плавным изменением давления, нарушают структуру материала в поверхностном слое (патент RU №93006693).The material for musical instrument decks, in the manufacturing process of which wooden planks are heated with a smooth change in pressure, violate the structure of the material in the surface layer (patent RU No. 93006693).
The closest in technical essence to the proposed invention is the USSR copyright certificate No. 495698 "Resonator for stringed musical instruments." Application No. 2007215 with priority of March 20, 1974. In this invention, the veneered laminate has an interlayer of foil film to improve acoustic properties. The authors of certificate No. 495698 believe that this design increases the speed of sound along the fibers, due to which there is a slight increase in the acoustic constant. The disadvantages of the prototype is the complexity of the design. Using only peeled veneer limits the construction of the material in thickness, the inability to achieve uniform sounding of a musical instrument. The presence of foil material leads to an unconventional sound of the instrument and delamination of the material during operation. The disadvantages of all the materials described above is that their manufacturing technology is long, and the resulting effect on improving acoustic characteristics is negligible.
The use of only one type of veneer and obsolete adhesives currently does not allow the widespread use of this technology.
The objective of this development is to develop the design and technology of glued material in the image of natural spruce wood and to develop a method for controlling the properties of the material to obtain the maximum effect of improving the resonant characteristics of wood while maintaining the basic characteristics of the macro- and microstructure of natural wood and its pore structure. This is achieved by the fact that the thin layers of veneer used to simulate early and late wood have a multilayer structure made of various veneers obtained by planing, peeling and sawing. The structure of the composite material is a structure consisting of fibers of wood, veneer and glue. In various combinations, they create a repeating design in the form of layers of different densities, and the surface of the material is an imitation of spruce wood.
The fundamental difference between the developed design of the new glued material and the technology of its production from those known in the literature (including that given in the USSR author's certificate No. 495698 “Resonator for stringed musical instruments”) is the use of layered materials obtained by various methods in one layer, and the use of planed micro veneer for the manufacture of a layer simulating late wood.
Another objective of this development is to obtain a qualitatively new material, similar in its properties to resonant spruce wood, and to improve the resonance characteristics of industrial musical instruments.
The main disadvantage of the known structures of layered materials used in the music industry is the pronounced isotropy of the resulting material structure, which in principle is a very good indicator for various products and structural materials. However, it is the anisotropy of properties that is present in any natural material similar to wood that is important for a musical instrument. These anisotropic properties are historically embedded in the construction of a musical instrument. In well-known patents and copyright certificates, various materials different in structure from wood are used to change the isotropy of artificial materials.
2.Preliminary studies in the development of new material showed that for a musical instrument, in addition to the anisotropy of properties, the density of the material obtained and the sound loss in it due to friction are also very important. In natural resonant spruce, internal friction losses are minimal. At the same time, the range of reproducible frequencies is very wide, therefore, when creating a new material, spruce wood was chosen as the basis and standard. Comparative characteristics of the acoustic properties of resonant spruce and some other breeds used in the manufacture of musical instruments are shown in table 1. The properties of some breeds depending on the region of growth are shown in table 2.

The main indicator of the sound of a musical instrument is its own resonant frequency of the deck, which depends on the mass of the body or plate, and in the aggregate on the density of the material, the elasticity of the material and internal friction in the material, as well as the size and shape.
The rationality of using this or that wood species in the production of acoustic resonators of musical instruments is dictated by the availability, price, purpose of the musical instrument and the acoustic characteristics of the material - the acoustic constant of Andreev and Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as internal friction losses in the material.
As a rule, individual musical instruments made to order are distinguished by the high quality of the material, the elaborated design of the instrument and some technological features of production that change the properties of the material used for the better. Such features of the technology can be a variation (change) in the thickness of the deck or a change in the density of the material by impregnating the latter in the required sections of the deck with soil, a layer of varnish or glue.
п.Analyzing the materials used for the manufacture of musical instruments, presented on the domestic and foreign markets, it can be concluded that the resonators of the instruments are made in three ways: from natural wood, from substitutes (plywood or veneer) with different finishes - natural veneer or texture paper. Moreover, the sound quality of musical instruments can be the same in all three categories, since it very much depends on a large number of factors: instrument construction, technology, type of finish, etc.
None of the existing materials have properties with absolutely repetitive characteristics. Thus, it became necessary to develop a design of an artificial resonator made of glued material similar to a traditional resonant spruce, which has stable repetitive resonant characteristics.
3.The main parameters of the obtained glued material are shown in table 3.

The study of the acoustic properties of the obtained glued material showed that it is better to use layers made of birch, pine or spruce wood as the basis for the glued material.
3.In this case, the layered material made of birch layers has the lowest acoustic characteristics, the acoustic constant of Andreev (K a ) is 7 ... 8 cm 4 / kg · s. The density of the layered material was - 570 kg / m 3 .
3.The best characteristics are layered material made from planed or sawn layers of spruce wood. Acoustic Andreeva constant K a greater than 12 cm 4 / kg · s. The density of the material is 420-480 kg / m 3 .
3.The use of layers of glued material made of pine wood showed that the acoustic constant can vary over a wide range from 7 cm 4 / kg · s to 12 cm 4 / kg · s at a density of 490 to 570 kg / m 3 .
Glued material is made using only one type of wood.
Близкий к этому показатель имеет обычная березовая фанера марки ФСФ толщиной 4 мм (Ка=4 см4/кг·с).This is due to the fact that the composite material made using layers of various wood species (birch, pine and spruce) has low acoustic performance - the Andreev acoustic constant is below 5 cm 4 / kg · s. An indicator close to this is ordinary FSF birch plywood with a thickness of 4 mm (K a = 4 cm 4 / kg · s).
3.The density of the layer of late wood is from 600 to 700 kg / m 3 .
8-12.The number of layers simulating early and late wood, in one centimeter is 8-12.
Wood for the manufacture of layers of glued material has the following characteristics.
Spruce. Density 430 kg / m 3 . Area of growth - Vologda Oblast. The width of the annual layer is 3 mm. The width of the late and early zones is uniform about 1.5 mm. The color is light yellow. There are a number of defects in the form of small knots on wood, which make up less than 2% of the total quality wood.
Birch. Russian Federation, Leningrad region. Density 620 kg / m 3 . The color of the wood is white. Healthy.
3.Pine ordinary. Place of growth Vyborg, Leningrad Region. The color of the wood is yellowish red. The density of wood is 530 kg / m 3 .
Glued blocks of layered material are sawn into planks measuring 225 × 40 × 4 mm. The use of these sizes is associated with the minimum allowable sizes of samples for their research on the IChZ-9 installation. Samples with the specified thickness (4 mm) are also used in the manufacture of resonant guitar guitars. In addition, an IBM compatible computer manufactured by SONY Vaio and sound analysis software Sonoscope, Steinberg WaveLab 4.0 and 5.0, SpectraLab v4.32, and a portable sound analysis instrument Minilyzer were used to analyze the acoustic properties of the samples. The characteristics were recorded in an isolated sound chamber using a highly sensitive Berenger microphone, which has a linear characteristic at most of the recorded audio frequencies.
The samples were controlled according to the main acoustic indicators: resonant frequency f res Hz; mass m, g, Andreev’s acoustic constant K a , cm 4 / g · s; refined Rimsky-Korsakov constant ; sound speed s, m / s. All characteristics were compared with reference samples made of spruce wood.
