Abstract
Description
The invention relates to energy, and in particular to a technique for generating thermal energy on the principle of heating water by means of two-stage oxidation of natural gas, and can be used for autonomous water heating and year-round hot water supply for domestic and industrial premises.
The main trend in modern developments of domestic hot water boilers is the creation of devices with increased energy conversion efficiency and a significant reduction in environmentally hazardous emissions of CO and NOx. One of the options for achieving such goals is the use of catalysts in hot water boilers in combination with flame combustion or in a purely catalytic version.
Thus, in wall boilers used Eurola modulated matrix of radiation-catalytic burner to ensure the content of nitrogen oxides and carbon NOx≤9 mg / kWh (18.5 mg / m 3), CO≤17 mg / kWh (8.2 mg / m 3 ) [Ein echter Heizkessel fur die Wand extrem schadstoffarm durch Matrix-Strahlungsbrenner. Viessman advertisement for Eurola boiler]. The maximum power control range is 1: 2.25, the mass of the boiler per kW of generated power is about 3-5 kg / kW. The Eurola boiler with a catalytic layer deposited on a matrix burner and with a spherical heating surface made of high quality steel has an efficiency of 108% due to the condensation stage. Despite the high level of automation and high efficiency of the boiler, the presence of flame combustion leads to unrecoverable emissions of nitrogen oxides and imposes environmental restrictions on their use indoors.
Gastec, Catalysis Today, 47 (1999), 415-420). The use of catalysts in a boiler in the form of two metal monolithic blocks is known (S. R. Vaillant, A.S. Gastec, Catalysis Today, 47 (1999), 415-420). A catalyst is deposited at the end of the first block; the length of the deposited layer is several millimeters. About 50% of methane is converted in the first block, and the rest of it is oxidized in the second block. In the case of catalyst deactivation, the first unit can operate as a radiation burner. In this boiler, for the removal of heat, in addition to the traditional heat exchanger above the first block, an additional heat exchanger behind the second block is also used.
In a boiler selected as a prototype (Pat. RU 2209378, F 24 H 1/00, 09/27/2001), heat generation for heating water is carried out using two main apparatuses: a synthesis gas generator and a catalytic heat exchanger, allowing the oxidation of natural gas in two stages. At the first stage — in the synthesis gas generator — the catalytic partial oxidation of natural gas to synthesis gas is carried out with preliminary heating of the water, and at the second stage — in the catalytic heat exchanger — the synthesis gas is oxidized to end products — carbon dioxide and water and the water is heated to the required temperature. The catalytic heat exchanger is arranged so that the water to be heated moves inside the panels, and the structured catalyst is in the space between the panels. The catalyst is made in the form of flat and corrugated tapes forming catalytically active channels, and is sintered with the outer walls of the panels. This circumstance and the presence of radial thermal conductivity at the level of 2-4 W / mK provide intensive heat transfer from the catalyst layer to the water flowing in the panels.
The operating experience of this device showed the following disadvantages. Since the water to be heated is supplied inside the panels under pressure (about 6 MPa), during operation of the heat exchanger the walls of the panels are deformed and compress the catalytic layer, leading to disruption of the structure of the channels in which the synthesis gas is oxidized. As a result, inhomogeneities arise in the temperature distribution between the panels and along their length. The catalyst undergoes irreversible changes, and the environmental performance of the boiler also deteriorates sharply. Violation of the structure of the channels leads to an increase in hydraulic resistance and the appearance of various pressure differences in the channels between the panels, which also contributes to an increase in temperature inhomogeneities. The manufacture of water-cooled panels of thicker metal leads to a heavier structure and does not eliminate the above drawback. The next disadvantage is associated with the complexity of sealing and thermal insulation of the side ends of the gas channels in the conditions of deformation of the panels.
The invention solves the problem of efficient and environmentally friendly oxidation of natural gas to produce heat.
One of the options for eliminating these drawbacks is to improve the design of the catalytic heat exchanger by switching to a variant of the type of boiler. In this case, the catalyst is placed inside the panels, where synthesis gas is supplied together with air to carry out the oxidation reaction, and the liquid to be heated moves in the space between the panels.
A hot water boiler consists of a synthesis gas generator, mixing units for natural gas with primary air and synthesis gas with secondary air and a catalytic heat exchanger, which is a set of catalytic heat exchanger panels cooled externally with water and inside having a catalytic layer in the form of corrugated and flat ribbons, forming channels with a diameter increasing along the synthesis gas, and sectionally arranged along the height of the heat exchanger with a width of corrugations equal to the width of the panel.
To ensure uniform distribution of the gas-air mixture over the catalytic panels and at the same time prevent the flame from entering the mixing zone, the boiler is equipped with a layer of inert granular material at the entrance to the catalytic heat exchanger.
As a catalyst in a catalytic heat exchanger, a reinforced porous material containing rhodium, nickel, platinum, palladium, iron, cobalt, rhenium, ruthenium or a mixture thereof is used as active components.
The problem is solved by the following changes in the design of the boiler.

The boiler consists of a synthesis gas generator 1, which includes a catalyst layer 2, a water-cooled housing 3, a gas distribution device 4, a generator start-up system 5, a gas distribution grid 6, pipelines 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 18, 19, a chamber for mixing with the secondary air 11. The mixing chamber 11 consists of a mixing unit 12, a layer of inert material 15 located at the inlet of the catalytic heat exchanger and serving as a possible flame arrester. The catalytic heat exchanger consists of flat panels 17, inside of which there is a layer of structured catalyst, sintered with the metal walls of the panels. At the outlet of the catalytic heat exchanger, there is a device for igniting 14 a mixture of synthesis gas with air when starting the boiler. Space 16 is the space between the panels of the catalytic heat exchanger.
The catalytic hot water boiler operates as follows.
Air is supplied to the boiler through a common pipe 8 and then divided into two streams 9 and 11. The primary air through a pipe 9 together with natural gas is fed through a pipe 10 to a gas distribution pipe 4, and from it to the catalyst layer 2. In the catalyst layer, the reaction partial oxidation of natural gas with the formation of synthesis gas. The synthesis gas obtained at a temperature of 800-950 ° C after cooling in a water-cooled case 3 to a temperature of 120-130 ° C through a gas distribution grid 6 enters the chamber for mixing with secondary air 11. The mixing chamber consists of a mixing unit 12, a layer of inert material 15 located at the entrance to the catalytic heat exchanger and serving as a possible flame arrester. The catalytic heat exchanger consists of flat panels 17, inside of which there is a layer of structured catalyst, sintered with the metal walls of the panels. The water to be heated enters from the body of the synthesis gas generator through a pipe 13 into the space 16 between the panels of the catalytic heat exchanger and leaves it through a pipe 18 after heating. At the outlet of the catalytic heat exchanger, there is a device for igniting 14 a mixture of synthesis gas with air when starting the boiler. The products of oxidation of the synthesis gas through the pipeline 19 are removed into the environment.
Thus, heat generation for heating water is carried out in a water boiler using a synthesis gas generator and a catalytic heat exchanger, which allow the oxidation of natural gas in two stages. At the first stage — in the synthesis gas generator — the catalytic partial oxidation of natural gas to synthesis gas is carried out and the water is preheated, and at the second stage — in the catalytic heat exchanger — the synthesis gas is oxidized to the final combustion products — carbon dioxide and water, and heating water to the required temperature.
In the present invention, the design of the synthesis gas generator is selected to be the same as in the prototype, namely, the synthesis gas generator is a radial type reactor containing a gas distribution tube with a catalytic layer made in the form of gas-permeable flat and corrugated reinforced tapes, wound and sintered from the gas distribution a tube with gaps between the turns with the formation of gas-air channels between the tapes, having a heating device for starting the reactor into operation, containing a gas distribution a tube with a diameter of the perforation holes smaller than the critical diameter to prevent flame from entering the gas distribution pipe, containing gas-permeable heat-insulating screens and placed in a water-cooled housing.
As a catalyst in the synthesis gas generator, a reinforced metal-porous material is used containing, as active components, compounds of rhodium, nickel, platinum, palladium, iron, rhenium, ruthenium, or a mixture thereof.
The catalytic heat exchanger can be implemented as a set of flat catalytic heat exchanger panels placed in a metal casing above the synthesis gas generator.
21.A schematic diagram of a catalytic heat exchanger implemented on the basis of catalytic flat water-cooled panels is shown in FIG. 2. The catalytic panel consists of two
Figure 3 shows a section along aa of the catalytic panel. The catalyst consists of flat and corrugated catalytically
In contrast to the prototype (Pat. RU 2209378, F 24 H 1/00, 09/27/2001), the catalytic heat exchanger is made in the form of a set of catalytic heat exchange panels placed in the space (volume) 16 (Figure 1) of circulating water. The gas-air mixture passes through the catalytic panels from the bottom up. The catalyst in the form of corrugated and flat ribbons, forming channels with a diameter increasing along the synthesis gas path, and spion-spaced along the height of the heat exchanger with gaps between the sections is inside the panels and sintered with the walls. In order to ensure uniform distribution of the gas-air mixture over the catalytic panels and at the same time prevent the leakage of flame into the mixing zone, the latter is separated from the catalytic heat exchanger by a layer of inert granular material consisting of balls of aluminum oxide with a diameter of 2-2 mm. Water for cooling the panels is supplied from the bottom of the heat exchanger after the synthesis gas generator, and it exits at the top of the boiler. To start the second stage of the boiler in the upper part of the catalytic heat exchanger, a start device 14 is installed (Figure 1). In the proposed design of the second stage of the boiler, the natural “principle of the boiler” is implemented, in the role of which the catalytic layers 17 are placed inside the hollow plates. The hydraulic resistance of the second stage and the boiler as a whole in this design remains stable and does not change during the operation of the boiler at a given mode.
The principle of operation of the developed boiler is similar to that specified in Pat. RU 2209378, F 24 H 1/00, 09/27/2001 and consists in the catalytic oxidation of natural gas, carried out according to a two-stage scheme, where at the first stage in the synthesis gas generator, catalytic oxidation of natural gas is carried out with a lack of oxygen in the synthesis gas, and the second stage in the catalytic heat exchanger after introducing an additional amount of oxygen in the air, the synthesis gas is completely oxidized to produce carbon dioxide and water.
