Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of military equipment and can be used to enhance the protective properties of bulletproof vests and easily vulnerable structural elements of vehicles and lightly armored vehicles from bullets from regular small arms and high-speed fragments.
Typical protective devices that can withstand the penetration of bullets and high-speed fragments and designed to protect manpower and vulnerable elements of vehicle structures and lightly armored vehicles are a layered structure, for example, consisting of a ceramic face plate and an adjacent plate made of glass material or plastic to extinguish residual energy of fragments [1, 2]. The disadvantage of such protective devices is their high cost and ability to withstand only one hit, because a ceramic plate after impact of a striker (bullet, fragment) is destroyed, and the remaining back layer, as a rule, does not perform a direct protective function.
A group of devices for protecting manpower is also known, the design of which consists of several layers of bulletproof fabric or aramid fibers bonded with an epoxy or phenolic compound [3, 4]. Devices of this type must have large dimensions in thickness to ensure a protective function.
[5].The closest analogue of the claimed invention is a shockproof protective device made in the form of an armor plate, consisting of a metal (steel) plate, perceiving impact, and a protective plate located on the back side made of a layered material with a low degree of delamination [5].
The disadvantages of such a device include the following. Materials with a low degree of exfoliation (plastics, fiberglass, textolite) withstand tensile stress much less than compression. In this case, in the device under consideration, an increase in the protective properties is provided by increasing the thickness of either a metal (steel) plate, or from a material with a low degree of delamination. Therefore, this leads to an increase in the total weight of the protection per unit area, which is undesirable when using such a device to protect manpower.
Currently, a search is underway for new design solutions for protective devices that, with optimal weight per unit area, would provide a significant reduction in the penetrating ability of bullets and high-speed fragments and exclude through penetration of them for protection.
The objective of the present invention is to provide a shockproof protective device that provides reliable protection against bullets and fragments of anti-personnel ammunition with a small equivalent weight per unit area through the use of known structural materials.
The proposed shockproof protective device differs from the known one in that the protective plate is made with a thickness of 0.2 d p <b 2 <0.3 d p and is located on the front surface of a metal plate having a Brinell hardness of at least 300 HB and made with a thickness of b 1 > 0.8 d p , where d p is the diameter of the bullet, b 1 is the thickness of the metal plate, b 2 is the thickness of the protective plate.
[6].Figure 1 presents one of the specific embodiments of the shockproof protective device, consisting of a steel plate 1, on the front surface of which is a protective plate 2 of laminated plastic with a low degree of delamination, fiberglass brand STEC [6].
Shock protective device operates as follows. When the bullet 3 contacts the protective plate 2, the material of which has high compressive strength, at the initial stage of interaction, the bullet head radially deforms, which leads to an increase in the contact area. The resistance force upon penetration of a bullet into an obstacle is proportional to the product of pressure, which is a function of the penetration rate, and the contact area [7]. As a result, when a deformed bullet acts on a metal plate 1, a larger volume of material is involved in the interaction process by increasing the contact area. The resistance to the penetration of the striker from the side of the plate 1 increases, which provides intensive attenuation of the speed of introduction of a bullet or a fragment.
The invention is illustrated in figure 2, which shows a photograph of the front surface of a titanium plate with a thickness of 6.7 mm, which amounted to 0.88d p , and Brinell hardness of 300 HB after exposure to a regular bullet caliber d p = 7.62 mm at a speed of 670 m /from. At the point of contact of the bullet with a titanium plate without a protective plate, it penetrated through when the diameter of the hole was 8 mm greater than the diameter of the bullet, which is illustrated in the upper part of figure 2. In the case when the titanium plate is protected on the front side with a STEK fiberglass plate of 2 mm thickness, which is 0.26 d o , when the bullet is at the same speed, there is no through penetration, i.e. the bullet does not penetrate the plate. On the front surface of the titanium plate around the point of contact, chips are seen viewed in the lower part of FIG. 2, and on the back surface, bulging in the direction of the velocity vector and through radial cracks, the distance between which is much smaller than the diameter of the bullet core. The developing stresses and deformations in the titanium plate during loading in the first case lead to the formation of a through hole, which is formed as a knock-out knockout, and in the second only to deformation and partial radial rupture of the titanium plate material at the point of contact without through penetration of the bullet through it .
Experimental studies were carried out on the impact interaction of a standard bullet with a caliber of 7.62 mm with a shockproof protective device, including a plate of high-strength steel with a thickness of 6.7 mm, which amounted to 0.88d P , Brinell hardness of 360 HB, and a face plate - fiberglass of the STEC brand, thickness from 1.5 to 3.0 mm, which amounted to 0.2 d P and 0.3 9 d P, respectively.
The speed of the bullet was regulated by the amount of powder charge and was recorded by an induction sensor. The nature of the destruction of the shockproof protective device — through penetration or deformation changes and crater formation — was established visually by its state after the experiment. The linear sizes of fracture were recorded in each experiment.
Левая крайняя точка характеризует предельную начальную скорость пробития противоударного защитного устройства без лицевой пластины (Vo=693±5 м/с), а правая - с лицевой пластиной из стеклотекстолита СТЭК толщиной 3 мм (Vо=750±5 м/с).One of the important characteristics of impact dynamics is the ultimate penetration rate of an obstacle. Figure 3 shows the dependence of the change in the maximum penetration rate of a standard bullet on the thickness of the front protective coating. The left extreme point characterizes the limiting initial penetration rate of the shockproof protective device without a face plate (V o = 693 ± 5 m / s), and the right one - with a face plate made of STEK fiberglass 3 mm thick (V o = 750 ± 5 m / s).
The analysis of experimental data on the determination of the ballistic limit (maximum penetration rate) of a shockproof protective device with a face plate made of various grades of fiberglass made it possible to establish that STEKglass is the most effective with the optimum ratio of the thickness of the front and metal plates with a minimum weight per unit area.
As a result of the experiments, it was found that applying a protective plate made of fiberglass with high strength characteristics of the material to compression on the front surface of a metal plate with high hardness increases the shock resistance due to the loss of kinetic energy on the deformation processes of the bullet itself or the fragment and the structure. The elastoplastic properties of the materials of the shockproof protective device contribute to its deformation only in the contact zone, without violating the complete integrity. Given this fact, it can be argued that the shockproof protective device is able to withstand several hits of a bullet or an echeloned stream of high-speed fragments. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the simplicity of manufacturing a shockproof protective device, its effectiveness and reliability.
