Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of electrometallurgy and can be used for melting highly reactive metals and alloys, in particular for the smelting of ingots from titanium and its alloys.
46). Known consumable electrode for smelting ingots from titanium and its alloys, containing mutually interconnected pressing portion parts of bulk and granular components from titanium sponges, ligatures and return waste. To improve the mutual adhesion of the individual batch parts of the electrode to one another, their end surfaces are made with alternating radial sector protrusions and depressions, as well as with central spherical protrusions and depressions (Dobatkin V.I. et al. Titanium alloy ingots. - M .: Metallurgizdat, 1966 , p. 46).
The disadvantage of this electrode is the low mechanical strength due to poor adhesion between the low-plastic lumpy and bulk components of the charge. The consequence of this is the destruction of the electrode in some cases during transportation and melting in other furnaces, defective ingots, emergency explosive situations when moving the arc to the crystallizer wall, the need to perform a large amount of welding work in an atmosphere that is protective against oxidation by hardening the electrodes by welding longitudinal strip overlays to the surface of the weakened sections of the electrode.
А. The closest in technical essence to the present invention is a consumable electrode of a vacuum arc furnace for melting highly reactive metals and alloys, made of workpieces interconnected by means of welding seams (Garmata V.A. et al. Metallurgy of titanium. - M .: Metallurgy, 1968, p. 513-514) is a prototype.
In such an electrode, welds connecting pieces of waste to each other should have a relatively large cross-section to ensure the passage of the working current of the arc without significant heating and melting of the seams before the workpieces melt.
The disadvantages of the electrode are the great complexity of its manufacture when laying and fitting lumpy waste within a given size, as well as when welding them with seams sufficient for reliable connections and the passage of electric current section. The concentration of the working current density of the arc in the welds causes their earlier heating, premature melting and, as a consequence, the fall of unfinished pieces of the mixture into the bath of the ingot melted in the mold, which leads to a decrease in the quality of the metal, and also creates an explosive situation when the pieces of the electrode deviate to the wall mold during their melting, which can cause the transfer of the arc to the wall of the mold and burn it. In addition, the disadvantage of the prototype is the lack of the ability to involve in the composition of the electrode metal waste from forging, pipe, sheet and section rolling.
The problem to which this invention is directed is to increase the mechanical strength of the electrode, increase the arc current during remelting of the electrode due to the formation of a conductive element from metal waste from forging, rolling and pipe production, as well as increase the explosion safety of the melting process.
The problem is solved in that the consumable electrode of a vacuum arc furnace for melting highly reactive metals and alloys, consisting of interconnected billets, according to the invention is equipped with a conductive element made in the form of a rod with a length equal to the length of the consumable electrode and a cross-sectional area of at least S , which is determined by the expression: S = K • J, where J is the arc current strength during electrode melting. A; K is a coefficient taking into account the current density of the conductive element, K = 0.01-0.1 cm 2 / A; S is the cross-sectional area of the conductive element, cm 2 . The rod is made from waste from rolling, pipe and forging production (pipes, rods and strips) and placed inside the electrode. The conductive element is made in a vacuum arc furnace during welding of the electrode to the cinder.
The required cross-sectional area of the conductive element, providing a stable process of remelting the electrode, is achieved by the amount of waste placed in the center of the electrode in the form of pipes, rods and strips and depends on the strength of the arc current on which the electrode is remelted.
The coefficient K is selected taking into account the necessary mechanical strength of the electrode (including the conductive element), excluding heating, deformation and destruction of the electrode during its melting.

- становится возможным использование отходов прокатного, трубного, кузнечного производства без существенных затрат труда на их переработку;
- обеспечивается необходимая механическая прочность электрода при его плавлении за счет снижения количества сварных швов и их возможного разрушения в процессе плавки;
- обеспечивается возможность повышения тока дуги при плавлении электрода за счет стабильного протекания тока через токопроводящий элемент;
The technical result achieved by the implementation of the invention is as follows:
- it becomes possible to use waste rolling, pipe, forging production without significant labor costs for their processing;
- provides the necessary mechanical strength of the electrode during its melting by reducing the number of welds and their possible destruction during the melting process;
- it is possible to increase the arc current during electrode melting due to the stable flow of current through the conductive element;
- increases the explosion safety of the melting process due to the high strength and conductivity of the electrode.
Example 1. A consumable electrode was made from section rolling waste, using a trim of bars of titanium alloy W6 with a diameter of 120 mm and a length of 150-180 mm, which were assembled in the form of a ring with a void in the middle (Fig. 1a). Waste was interconnected by intermittent weld (spot welding). Received blanks for the formation of the future electrode. As a conductive element, a rod from a rod of the same alloy with a length of 2000 mm (corresponding to the length of the future electrode), a diameter of 100 mm, which is optimal for passing an arc current of 7850 A, on which the electrode was melted (coefficient K = 0.01 cm 2 / A). The rod was placed in the central part of the manufactured ring. The remaining rings were placed along the entire length of the conductive element, welding them to the element by spot welding. For better mechanical strength, the assembled electrode was vertically connected by plates (sheet waste), which were welded by spot welding (Fig.1b). The manufactured consumable electrode was remelted in a vacuum arc furnace VD-650 according to the existing technology. The obtained ingot had the quality and chemical composition that corresponded to the technical conditions and was sent for further processing.
Example 2. The proposed consumable electrode was formed in the mold of the furnace. To do this, the waste rods of 110 mm in diameter 100-200 mm long from titanium alloy W1-0 prepared in the form of a ring, as in example 1. The electrode blanks were installed on the mold tray to a height of 1200 mm, equal to the height of the future electrode. Then, waste in the form of tubes, rods and strips with a height of 1300-1400 mm was placed in the central empty part of the blanks until the empty space was filled. Then, in a vacuum, the protruding ends of the conductive element were fused at an arc current of 10 kA. The liquid metal flowing into the gaps in the central part of the electrode formed a solid conductive element with a cross section of S = 380 cm 2 . The resulting electrode was remelted according to the existing technology in a vacuum arc furnace at an arc current of 8 kA (coefficient K = 0.0475). The smelted ingot was sent for further processing.
