The closest analogue is the way to create a working environment / 4 /, Crystals are grown by the Czochralski method. The crystals contain a mass fraction of thallium impurity of 0.07-0.13% and have good optical quality. The thallium content in the crystals is determined by the A-absorption band at 248 nm. Color centers in crystals were created by the method of obtaining F A centers: irradiation with electrons at a temperature of 77 K, and then irradiation with white light at -30 o C. For electron irradiation, a pulsed accelerator is used that provides an electron flux with an energy of 1.6-1.8 MeV and a density of 4 • 10 13 el • s / cm 2 . Before irradiation, crystals (6x6x2) mm are polished and placed in hermetically sealed cassettes. Electron irradiation creates several types of color centers in a crystal.
The disadvantage of the prototype and the above methods is the low concentration of the working centers of the color.
KCl-Tl.The aim of the invention is to increase the concentration of the working centers of the color Tl o (1) in KCl-Tl crystals.
Поставленная цель достигается тем, что в известном способе создания рабочей среды, включающем выращивание кристаллов хлористого калия из расплава с добавлением солей таллия, облучение ионизирующим излучением, соль таллия в расплав вводят в виде азотнокислого таллия TlNO3 в количестве от 0,5 до 2,0 мас.%.This goal is achieved by the fact that in the known method of creating a working environment, including growing potassium chloride crystals from a melt with the addition of thallium salts, irradiation with ionizing radiation, the thallium salt is introduced into the melt in the form of thallium nitrate TlNO 3 in an amount of from 0.5 to 2.0 wt.%.
Concentrations lower than 0.5 wt.% TlNO 3 are insufficient to create an active laser medium due to the low concentration of thallium and a very weak increase in the concentration of working centers compared to crystals activated with thallium chloride.
Concentrations of large 2.0 wt.% TlNO 3 are also ineffective due to the competing influence of complex color centers, which reduce the efficiency of the laser medium.
The method is as follows. KCl-Tl crystals with Tl o (1) color centers are an active laser medium for tunable lasers in the range 1.4–1.6 μm. To obtain an active medium, crystals are grown from a melt according to the Stockbarger method in evacuated quartz ampoules from OSCH grade KCl salt with the addition of thallium nitrate (TlNO 3 ) in a concentration of 0.5 to 2.0 wt.%. The content of thallium in crystals is controlled by the A-band absorption of thallium in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum (at 248 nm at the maximum of the band at 266 nm at its long-wavelength decay). The color centers Tl o (1) are created by gamma irradiation of crystals from a 60 Co radioactive source with a dose of (1-5) • 10 7 r at dry ice temperature (the true content of thallium in crystals is an order of magnitude lower). The concentration of Tl o (1) of the color centers is controlled by the absorption band of these centers in the IR region with a maximum at 1.04 μm and by the intensity of the luminescence band with a maximum at 1.5 μm excited in the absorption band of 1.04 μm.
3.It was found that when crystals are activated with thallium nitrate as compared with crystals activated with thallium chloride, at equal concentrations of thallium and other equal conditions for the production of active laser elements, a higher concentration of the working centers of the color Tl o is achieved (1). This fact is due to the fact that in unirradiated KCl-Tl crystals grown with TlNO 3 additives, the ratio of basic / dimeric centers is better than in those grown with TlCl additives and, accordingly, in the active medium, the ratio Tl o (1) / Tl o Tl is better + (1) color centers. The appearance of additional Tl o Tl + (l) color centers, the absorption of which is superimposed on the absorption of the working Tl o (1) color centers, leads to inactive laser losses. The drawing shows the absorption spectra of crystals of KCl-TlNO 3 -
Example. KCl-Tl crystals are grown from the melt with the introduction of 0.5 - 2.0 wt. % TlNO 3 . Similarly, KCl-Tl crystals are grown from a melt for comparison with the introduction of 0.45-1.8 wt.% TlCl into the charge. Crystal samples 10 x 10 x 2 mm are punctured. Irradiated with gamma radiation from a radioactive source 60 Co with a dose of 1 • 10 7 r at dry ice temperature. The absorption coefficient is determined at the maximum of the band Tl o (1) of the centers at 1.04 μm. These data are given in the table.
As can be seen from the table, the concentration of laser-active Tl o (1) color centers upon introduction of thallium nitrate crystals into the initial mixture for growing crystals is higher than upon introduction of thallium chloride.
The working medium created by the proposed method can be used as an active medium for solid-state tunable lasers, as passive laser shutters can be used in fiber optics.
