Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of processing radioactive waste from the nuclear fuel cycle and can be used for their fixation in ceramic matrix materials.
There is a method of incorporating a highly active concentrate of rare-earth elements into a stable single-phase zirconia-based ceramic by mixing the initial concentrate with zirconyl nitrate and calcining the resulting mixture with further hot pressing of calcine (RF patent N 2034345, MKI 21 F 9/16, publ. 95 g.)
The disadvantage of this method is the use of complex high-temperature press equipment and the lack of orientation of the matrix for disposal in any particular rock, which does not ensure the safety of the environment.
A known method of ceramicizing a concentrate of rare-earth elements (adopted as a prototype), including the precipitation of REE orthophosphates from their concentrate - an acidic solution of REE nitrates, adding a concentrated solution of lead nitrate, calcining to obtain calcine at a temperature of 800 o C the resulting suspension of orthophosphates in nitric acid, compacting the precipitate obtained by hot pressing at a temperature of 1000 o C, a pressure of 300 kg / cm 2 and a holding time of 1 hour (RF patent N 2062519, MKI 21 F 9/16, publ. 96 g)
However, this method has the same disadvantages as described above.
An object of the present invention is to use a simple technology for curing a rare-earth element concentrate using inexpensive and readily available feedstocks that provide enhanced environmental protection by creating multi-barrier protective compositions and observing the principle of phase and chemical correspondence in a matrix-containing rock system.
To solve this problem, in a method of ceramicizing a rare-earth element concentrate, including the precipitation of rare-earth element orthophosphates from their concentrate, calcining the resulting suspension, and compacting the obtained precipitate, it is new that after calcining, the precipitate is mixed with igneous rocks containing quartz and minerals, crystal the chemical structures of which are capable of isomorphic occurrence of rare-earth elements in them, the mixtures are ground to a homogeneous composition, pressed at room temperature th temperature and calcined at a temperature of 950-1050 o C to obtain a ceramic.
1:1-3.Calcination is best carried out at a temperature of 400-500 o C. Obtained after calcination of the orthophosphates, it is desirable to mix with rocks in a weight ratio of 1: 1-3.
The listed set of actions leads to the appearance of a quartz-feldspar melt between charge grains (grains of silicates and orthophosphates), at the boundaries of which REE diffusion and intergranular melt cementation go through the melt. At a lower firing temperature, ceramics are loose and unstable to leaching, and at a higher temperature it is converted to glass that is also unstable - thermally and chemically.
Thus, the obtained ceramic matrices are multi-barrier compositions of monazites (REE orthophosphates) and REE-containing minerals, which in themselves are a barrier to the loss of radionuclides, since they chemically binds silicates that prevent the diffusion of elements, the third barrier host rocks with which the synthesized ceramics will be in phase and chemical equilibrium will serve.
Example 1. The method was tested in laboratory conditions on a model REE concentrate, to which a stoichiometric amount of phosphoric acid was added. The resulting suspension of metal orthophosphates in nitric acid was dried and calcined at 400 ° C. for 0.5 hours until the decomposition of nitric acid. The resulting precipitate was mixed with granite (igneous rock containing quartz and pertite feldspar * ) in a weight ratio of 1: 1, ground in a mortar to a homogeneous composition, and then pressed into tablets at room temperature using a hand press. The resulting tablets were sintered in platinum crucibles for 3 days at 1050 o C in an electric heating furnace KO-14. The obtained ceramic samples had a composition corresponding to natural natronortoclase mixed with REE orthophosphates, density 2.68 g / cm 3 . The REE content in the obtained ceramic is 16.9 wt.%. The rate of REE leaching into distilled water at a temperature of 90 o C on the 50th day is ≈10 -4 (0.00278) g / m 2 • day.
Example 2. The same as in example 1. The resulting suspension of metal orthophosphates in nitric acid was dried and calcined at 500 o C for 0.5 hours until the decomposition of nitric acid. As a rock mixed with calcined REE orthophosphates, tuff (igneous rock containing quartz, albite * and crossite * ) was taken in a weight ratio of 3: 1 to orthophosphates. The tablets were sintered in platinum crucibles for 3 days at 950 ° C. in a KO-14 electric heating furnace. The obtained ceramic samples had a composition corresponding to natural augite (a mineral of the pyroxene group) in a mixture with REE orthophosphates, density 2.89 g / cm 3 . The REE content in the obtained ceramics is 25.8 wt.%. The rate of REE leaching into distilled water at a temperature of 90 o C on the 50th day is ≈10 -4 (0.00305) g / m 2 • day.
Example 3. The same as in example 1, only as a rock mixed with calcined REE orthophosphates, apatite ore (igneous rock containing quartz, nepheline * and apatite * ) was taken in a weight ratio of 2: 1 to orthophosphates. The tablets were sintered in platinum crucibles for 3 days at 1000 ° C. in a KO-14 electric heating furnace. The obtained ceramics samples contain REE orthophosphates and a phase structurally similar to centrolite - diorthosilicate R 2 M 2 (Si 2 O 7 ) O 2 , where R are large doubly charged REE ions, and M are small tri-charged ones. The density of the samples = 2.89 g / cm 3 . The REE content in the obtained ceramic is 20 wt.%. The rate of REE leaching into distilled water at a temperature of 90 o C on the 50th day is ≈10 -4 (0.00153) g / m 2 • day.
