Abstract
Description
The proposed method relates to the water supply of temporary consumers (drilling crews, geological parties, etc.) in the Far North and concerns the production of fresh water from underground ice.
[1]. Known methods for producing fresh water from underground ice, which include drilling a well in an ice massif and thawing it using steam or electric heaters, as well as running warm water [1].
[2]. The prototype adopted a known method of producing fresh water from underground ice, including drilling a well in an ice mass and thawing it with heated water, passed through an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe equipped with a submersible pump [2].
The disadvantages of the prototype are that the implementation of the known method requires significant energy costs for heating and extracting water from the well. In addition, running water enclosed in pipes (hoses) is not sufficiently involved in heat transfer with the walls of the well.
The proposed solution eliminated these shortcomings. This is achieved by the fact that in the method of producing fresh water, including drilling a well in an ice massif and thawing it with warm running water, flood water is used for thawing, which is collected in a tank located above the well, and the well is tightly closed with a lid and separated by a vertical, not reaching to the bottom by a partition into two halves, one of which is connected with the supply hose to the tank, and the second with the output hoses connected to the tank and the consumer.
In addition, the return of running water from the well to the tank is carried out due to wind energy.
7. The proposed method is illustrated by a drawing, which schematically shows a well 1 drilled in an ice massif with a vertical baffle 2 and a cover 3 with holes 4, a tank 5 with water intake and return holes 6 and 7, respectively, supply 8 and pipes 9 and 10 (hoses), a windmill 11 including a horizontal rotating axis with retracting blades 12 located near the return hole 7.
The method is as follows.
In early summer, create a reservoir of flood waters 5, for example, by damming waterways. In the dam (wall of the tank) provide holes for the intake 6 and return 7 of water. A windmill 11 is installed in the tank so that the retractor blades 12 are next to the return hole 7. A well 1 is drilled in an array of underground ice. A baffle 2 is lowered into the well, made (for the convenience of transportation and placement in the well) of flexible material, for example, tarpaulin, weighted at the end with sheet metal. The well is closed tightly with a cover 3 with holes 4 so that the inlet is on one side of the partition 2, and two outlet - on the other. The inlet on the lid of the inlet hose 8 is connected to the water intake hole 6 in the tank wall (in the dam). One of the outlet openings in the well cover with the outlet hose 9 is connected to the consumer, the other with the outlet hose 10 with the return hole 7 in the tank wall. Heated (by air and sun) water from the reservoir 5 under pressure enters through the opening 6 through the pipe (hose) 8 through the inlet on the cover 3 into the well 1. As a result of heat exchange, the water entering the well with the ice walls of the well melts. Melt water through the outlet through the outlet hose 8 goes to the consumer. When the reservoir ceases to be replenished by streams (melt water flow ceases, in the North this occurs in the middle-end of summer), part of the water is returned back from the well through the outlet hose 10 to reservoir 5. For this, wind energy is used with the help of a wind turbine 11. Wind energy is perceived by the blades fixed on the upper end of the vertical axis of the windmill. The rotational moment from the vertical axis is transmitted to the horizontal axis with retracting blades fixed to it 12. Thus, the circulation of flowing water in the reservoir-well system occurs during the entire period of thawing of the ice massif. By the onset of cold weather, the flood water reservoir is depleted, however, a cavity is formed in the thawing ice mass, which can be used as a winter water reservoir, constantly replenished by further ice thawing using one of the known methods (for example, using electric heaters lowered into the well). In the future, this cavity can be used for the disposal of various wastes, such as drill cuttings.
The advantage of the proposed method over the prototype is that in the warm period, ice with a market value (electric, thermal, etc.) is not used for ice thawing, and running water throughout the well directly interacts with ice, which increases the efficiency of its thawing. In addition, the flat stream separator is less material-intensive compared to the round (tubular) used in the prototype.
