Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of electrical engineering and can be used in the manufacture of electrodes for alkaline batteries (AL).
The main problem of the use of extruded electrodes in AH is the crumbling of the active mass or its movement and the change in the shape of the electrode during cycling [1]
A known electrode for an alkaline battery, in which to solve this problem the outer surface of the active material based on zinc is coated with a porous rubber film [2]
The disadvantage of this electrode is that the rubber film does not have sufficient strength to prevent the electrode from changing shape, the so-called “creep” of the active mass.
A well-known electrode for AH containing a down conductor, a briquette of the active mass and an outer shell of perforated metal tape. These electrodes have a long resource [3]
However, these electrodes have a low specific electrical characteristics due to the blocking of part of the surface by the shell material and the difficult migration of the electrolyte through perforation to the active mass.
Of the known electrodes for AL, the closest in combination of essential features is the electrode containing the briquette of the active mass, the collector and the sheath of the metal mesh [4] This electrode has high specific electrical characteristics due to the free access of the electrolyte to the active mass.
However, this electrode has a significant drawback associated with forcing the active mass through the mesh cells due to swelling of the briquette of the active mass during cycling. This ultimately leads to the shorting of the electrodes and the failure of the alkaline alkaline oxide.
The objective of the invention is to provide an electrode for alkaline acid, free from shedding and "creeping" of the active mass and having stable discharge characteristics.
The specified technical result is achieved by the fact that in the electrode for the alkali alloy containing the briquette of the active mass, the collector and the outer shell of metal, the shell is made of porous metal.
It is advisable that the thickness of the shell, to prevent swelling of the electrode, be 0.005-0.2 of the thickness of the briquette of the active mass of the electrode.
It is advisable that the porosity of the outer shell is 1.0-8.0 of the porosity of the briquette of the active mass of the electrode to ensure high electrical characteristics.
It is advisable that the pore size of the shell is 0.0005-1.5 of the particle size of the active mass in the briquette, to prevent leaching and shedding of the active mass from the electrode. It is advisable that the electrode contains a layer of ion-conducting material located between the briquette and the shell. The need for an intermediate layer between the shell and the active mass is due to the fact that the shell metal can form a galvanic couple with the material of the active layer. This will lead to self-discharge of the electrode and loss of capacitance.
It is advisable that the layer of ion-conducting material is porous to improve the access of the electrolyte to the active mass.
It is advisable to make the shell of porous nickel. The use of nickel is justified by the fact that it is resistant under the working conditions of the alkali alloy and is widely used in the technology of production of current sources.
It is advisable that the collector be separated from the outer shell by an insulator to exclude self-discharge of the electrode due to the presence of electronic coupling between the active mass and the sheath material.
It is advisable that the collector has mechanical contact with the outer shell through the insulator to seal the outlet of the collector through the shell.
It is advisable that the collector has electrical contact with the shell to improve current collection from the active mass, this is possible with the compatibility of the shell materials and the active mass from the point of view of the formation of a galvanic pair.
It is advisable that the outer shell has a gas outlet to remove gas that may be released on the electrode during recharging.
The ratio of the thicknesses of 0.005-0.2 of the shell and the briquette of the active mass is determined by the conditions of the mechanical strength of the electrode and its specific electrical characteristics. With a ratio of less than 0.005, the strength of the frame will be insufficient to keep the active mass from swelling and "creeping". With a thickness ratio of more than 0.2, the proportion of the shell in the mass of the electrode will be unreasonably large, which reduces its specific electrical characteristics.
The ratio of the porosity of the shell and the briquette of the active mass of 1.0-8.0 is determined, on the one hand, by the strength of the frame, with the other electrical characteristics. With a porosity ratio of more than 8.0, the shell strength is insufficient to keep the active mass from "creeping". If the porosity ratio is less than 1.0, the shell will be a diffusion barrier for the penetration of the electrolyte to the active mass. This increases the internal resistance of the electrode and reduces its discharge characteristics.
The ratio of the pore sizes of the shell and the particles of the active mass in the briquette, equal to 0.0005-1.5, is determined by the characteristics of the electrode and the possibility of leaching the active mass. With a pore ratio of more than 1.5, the particles of the active mass can be washed out of the briquette by electrolyte.
OH-.An additional layer of ion-conducting material between the shell and the briquette of the active mass is necessary when the materials of the active mass and the shell form a galvanic pair. The presence of an additional layer is necessary, for example, for a zinc electrode and a nickel shell. Nickel and zinc in an alkaline solution form a galvanic pair. In this case, zinc will dissolve, leading to self-discharge of the electrode. The ion conductivity of the additional layer is necessary for ion transfer and the occurrence of electrode current-forming reactions. As an additional layer material, ion-conducting membranes with OH - ion conductivity can be used.
The additional layer can also be made of porous separator material, which after impregnation with electrolyte becomes ion-conducting.
When the materials of the shell and the active mass do not form a galvanic pair, it is advisable to use the shell as the main or additional current collector in the presence of electrical contact between the shell and the collector. In this case, an additional layer is absent and the shell is in contact with the briquette of the active mass.
The need for a gas outlet in the electrode shell is determined by the presence of gas in the active mass during recharging. The capillary-porous shell moistened with electrolyte is impervious to gas. The released gas will inflate the shell, forming gas cavities, which increases the internal resistance of the electrode. In the presence of a special hole in the shell, the gas can be freely removed.
In the absence of gas evolution in the electrode, the need for a gas outlet is eliminated.
