Abstract
Description
разрушение измеряемого слоя почво-грунтов в месте контроля, что не позволяет производить периодические определения объемной активности в одном и том же месте и, следовательно, получать полностью достоверные результаты;
невозможность точного определения глубины залегания и толщины слоя почво-грунтов, с которого отбирается проба, что не позволяет достаточно достоверно устанавливать распределение радионуклидов по слоям почво-грунтов;
невозможность непрерывного контроля за распределением радионуклидов по слоям почво-грунтов, что не позволяет определить динамические характеристики миграции;
сложная технология радиохимического анализа проб, что приводит к большим трудозатратам;
The invention relates to methods for controlling environmental pollution, and in particular to methods for controlling the vertical migration of radionuclides in soils, and can be used to control the vertical migration of radionuclides in areas adjacent to nuclear power plants, radioactive waste burial sites, plants for the production of radioactive materials, and also in areas exposed to radioactive contamination as a result of accidents at nuclear facilities, and at nuclear test sites [1 and 2]
There is a method of controlling the vertical migration of radionuclides in soils by sampling from different layers of soils and then determining the volumetric activity of the samples taken by radiochemical methods; vertical migration of radiolides is controlled by the change in volumetric activity in soil layers over time [3]
The disadvantages of this method are:
the destruction of the measured soil layer in the control place, which does not allow periodic determination of volumetric activity in the same place and, therefore, to obtain completely reliable results;
the impossibility of accurately determining the depth and thickness of the soil layer from which the sample is taken, which does not allow reliable enough to establish the distribution of radionuclides in the soil layers;
the impossibility of continuous monitoring of the distribution of radionuclides over soil layers, which does not allow to determine the dynamic characteristics of migration;
sophisticated technology for radiochemical analysis of samples, which leads to high labor costs;
the safety of personnel during sampling is not ensured, since radioactive particles with high activity may appear in the selected sample or at the sampling location.
There is a need, simultaneously with migration control, to measure soil moisture in order to find a correlation between the migration of radionuclides and the water balance in the soil at the control site. The purpose of the invention is to increase the reliability of monitoring vertical migration of radionuclides in soils, obtaining the ability to determine the dynamic characteristics of migration, gaining the ability to determine the correlation between migration of radionuclides and water balance in soils at the control site, reducing the complexity of control and increasing personnel safety.
This is achieved due to the fact that volumetric activity is measured directly at the control site continuously, in layers, without disturbing the structure of soils; moreover, simultaneously measure the moisture content of the controlled soil layers and determine the correlation between the migration of radionuclides and the water balance in the soil at the control site.
The proposed method is implemented using a specially designed system for monitoring the vertical migration of radionuclides in soils (ASKMR).
In FIG. 1 presents a simplified diagram of an ASKMR system designed to implement the proposed method.
6. The system comprises a microprocessor unit 1, a battery unit 2, detection devices 3, 4 and 5, a neutron hydrometer 6.
1. Detection device 3 is designed to convert gamma radiation of gamma-emitting nuclides contained in soils into electrical signals and transmit these signals to microprocessor unit 1.
1. Detection device 4 is designed to convert beta radiation of beta-emitting nuclides contained in soils into electrical signals and transmit these signals to microprocessor unit 1.
The detection device 5 performs the same functions as the detection device 3 and 4, but is located in the aquifer.
Detection devices 3 and 4 are designed so that they can receive information in layers to a depth of 2.5 m with a thickness of the controlled layer of 10 mm, and detection device 5 receives information only from the aquifer.
д.). Microprocessor unit 1 controls the operation of the entire system, analyzes the signals coming from the detection devices in order to determine the volumetric activity of any selected radionuclide, remembers the obtained values of volumetric activity, humidity, date and time of all measurements. The information stored in microprocessor unit 1 can be transferred at the end of work to the memory of a personal computer such as IBM PC for presentation in a user-friendly form (tables, graphs, etc.).
The moisture meter is designed to measure moisture in various layers of soil up to the aquifer. The measured humidity values are transmitted to the microprocessor unit.
Battery pack 6 is designed to provide energy for the entire system in the field, which allows the system to work in an automatic stand-alone mode without operator intervention.
All detection devices, as well as a moisture meter, are installed permanently in the control place, which provides migration control in the same place, while when sampling it is necessary to drill as many wells as there are soil layers to be controlled; moreover, with periodic monitoring, this number is multiplied by the number of control operations.
The accuracy of control of the depth and thickness of the soil layer when using the proposed method is many times higher than the accuracy of control when sampling. This is due to the fact that the ASKMR system is installed stationary, therefore, the zero level from which the depth is counted is constantly at the same level, the required accuracy of the installation of ASKMR device sensors when monitoring soil layers is provided by design solutions.
The sensor of the detection device 3, by commands of the microprocessor unit, moves to the soil layer that needs to be controlled. At the end of the measurement of the volumetric activity of the selected layer, the sensor moves to the next layer. Upon completion of the measurement of all layers, the measurement cycle is repeated. Since the cycle time is many times less than the time of migration of radionuclides from layer to layer, the control is practically continuous.
The sensor of the detection device 4 is stationary. It measures volumetric activity simultaneously in all selected soil layers. The beginning and end of the measurement cycle are set by the microprocessor unit. The cycle time, as in the previous case, is much shorter than the time of migration of radionuclides from layer to layer.
The sensor of the detection device 5 is installed in the aquifer. It is motionless and measures the volumetric activity of radionuclides also continuously. In this way, continuous monitoring of radionuclide migration is ensured.
The moisture meter 6 moves according to the instructions of the microprocessor unit over all previously selected soil layers, up to the aquifer. It measures the importance of soil at the same time as volumetric measurements of detection devices.
In this way, simultaneous measurement of volumetric activity and soil moisture is provided.
Personnel safety is ensured by the fact that the ASKMR system works without operator participation. All information received can be transmitted to the control point via a communication cable or by radio.
